You clearly dont know how his contract is broken down. Its not something Leafs should do because they get nothing out of him, but his contract is actually gold for anyone trying to reach the cap floor.

I think we have our the whole lleft side of our future d already in the system. Ghule Romanov, Harris (Hopefully) Norlinder. On the right side we have Mailloux n Brooks. much weaker on RD.
That type of trade is something we should be doing in a year or two. once we have had a chance to see these young guys play in MTL.

thats beside the point. I was making the point that a player isnt worth less now simple because its been 6 months since he was traded. Habs dont have to move him, i'd be fine with him staying so why would they move him for a less? He also hasnt been wayyy worse he has been injuried and his numbers are on an almost identical track to what he put up last year if he had played a full season.
Couple that with how dysfunctional the habs start to the season was and i think most teams would still see him as the player he was last summer. Anyways dont need to jump into the same rabbit hole for each habs player.
Chiarot's return was almost bang on to what Hughes was reportedly asking for. So its irrelevant if you think its an overpay or not, the only way Dvorak gets traded is for a solid package, theres no reason to just give him away.

based on? Janrok just got a 2nd 3rd and 7th. Dvorak is 4 years younger and not a rental similar offensive production but Dvorak brings a bit more defensively. Also habs dont have to move him twhey will go looking for something close to what they gave for him, given the market out there seems like they could find that. If they dont then he stay with MTL for now.

Romanov retires>? Theres a case to be made that if we move Petry we will need to add RD, highly doubt that kilngsberg but atleast that move is plausible. I see no reason to also sign a LD going into next season we will have Edmudson, Ghule Romanov, Norlinder and potentially Harris on that left side, theres no need to spend money there its the biggest strength in our prospect pool.

if you think Weber is an example of Petry's future than the rest of your statement in moot. They play a very different style of game Weber always relied on his physicality in the defensive zone and his offensive production came mainly from his point shot. Petry is a much better skater, has the ability to skate the puck up the ice both things that werent strengths of Weber. Mobile defensemen age better than physical dman. If you've watched petry play this season its very clear that the decrease in production and effective play seem to be a case of motivation and not a decline in his skating. He has no drive and he routinely makes mistakes due to a lack of attention to detail, i do think you will see a much different petry once he is traded whether that is too dallas or a different US market.

What a Petry trade look like
theres a debate as to what Petry value is after how he has played this season, but he has played like a legit top 4 dman the past 4 season i think he still has value. That being said, theres absolutely zero chance that the habs move him for a 35 year old goalie and a 2nd. Theres zero incentive there for MTL, Petry should fetch a decent package and will most likely be moved in the offseason because Hughes isnt still going to move him for the sake of it.

5v5 scoring is important but it doesnt nearly tell the whole story. i dont know how else to explain it Toffoli and Kassian are not comparable players by any logic. its an extremely narrow lens to judge a scorer through.

yes cuz it was the only releveant piece of stat you posted. 5v5 per 60 min is a great stat but 28 goals n 52 games versus 2 goals in 27 game should be enough to tell you all you need to know. 5v5 scoring per 60 is one piece of the puzzle. Kassian has 6 career pph n 1shg, Toffli had 7ppg n 2shg just last season.
If you honestly think that a fair comparison of Toffoli is Zach Kassian because of one stat then there' s no point in responding.

Lol fair it can happen when you dive into these discussions.
I think Romanov is untouchable in the minds of habs fans because he is one of the few bright spots this season and it is very entertaining watching him throw open ice hits. Its mainly based on sentimental value, in reality he is a 2nd pair dman who does a little bit of everything but isnt the number 1 anchor some people seem to want crown him as.

Didnt say Kulak was worth a 3rd, but if the leafs are trying to bring in a dman with a 3rd round, then that gets them Kulak from the habs. Habs most likely wont be making a deal with the leafs regardless and Chiarot will be dealt shortly hopefully so soon you will have proof he in fact fetches a first because there are multiple teams looking to add a defensemen that logged 23+ plus minutes during a cup finals run and will come in at a cap hit of 1.75mil if retained.

This season Toffoli's scoring has dropped way off, he's scored just 1 goal at 5v5 in 29 games so far. So I think Habs fans should readjust their ask to something that reflects reality. Not that Edmonton would be very interested in Toffoli, but someone would be.</div></div>
They dont have to trade him, he was hurt for a good chunk of the year, the entire team has been garbage i'm not worried about a small sample size 29 games. I feel pretty confident in what we have in toffoli, a 20-30 goal scorer on a team friendly contract, theres no reason to move him unless its a solid package. Hes worth more to the habs than that offer.

they would never get close to that. If that was the fair market value for price seattle wouldve just selected him in the draft and moved him. The fact they didn't even want to touch that should tell you all you need to know.
I love price he's been responsible for pretty much everything positive that the habs have done i n the last 10+ years. but his contract, age and injury history is something every team will take into account. He had a great playoff one and showed that he still has some elite play left in him, but he also showed he cant take on a heavy load during the season which mean any team landing him will still want a decent backup on top of that. Most competitive teams could never have 14mil in goalies like the habs did last year because they have legit star forwards to pay which we've never had to deal with.
At best price may have another year or two left in him where he could perform while enough to be worth close to a 7mil cap hit for someone, but your perceived value that he would bring in a trade is way off in my book. Also Chiarot only gets a 1st if there not many LD available, Giordano gonna be the most sought after, i think habs will be extremely happy if they can pull a 1st out of a chiarot trade.
