So take out Nuke and replace him with another roster player. I only added him for cap purposes. Also like I said on another post all these trade deadline scenarios are based on teams panicking at the deadline to add something of value that puts them ahead of their competition. If you think Colorado isn't desperate to win after Mackinnon's tirade after last season you are wrong. You want more proof of what teams do look at Philly and the price they paid to get Risto and that was just supposed to be to make the playoffs!

Deadline Giroux to Edmonton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>Except you forget that Ken Holland is the GM of the Oilers. No team is going to pay 2 great assets + more for a rental Giroux at the TDL, I don't care how much they want to win the Cup. Giroux has not brought the Flyers a Cup despite the fact that they have had some strong teams over the years. Sure he's a great player, but he isn't a player who has the pedigree of winning that will command teams to pay through the nose to get</div></div>
Just look at what the Flyers paid to get Risto, and they were only trying to MAKE the playoffs
Im not saying you are wrong but again I did this based on a teams willingness to overpay for an asset to try to get an edge on their competition. You're taking this way too personally

oh I'm sorry you're talking about the regular season, my bad I forgot that teams in first place in January automatically win the cup and will need no help whatsoever even after they watch other rivals get players at the deadline. Yeah, desperate to win a cup is just plain silly when they already have won it

Deadline Giroux to Edmonton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Skyraider112</b></div><div>All of your posts way overvalue Giroux. By retaining 50%, Philly could reasonably get a 2022 1st, decent prospect, and a roster player to balance cap. There could be a conditional 2nd depending on the playoff results of the team Giroux is traded to. In the Oilers situation that could look like 2022 1st, Lavoie, and Kyle Turris</div></div>
I don't overvalue Giroux - I worked on the premise that all these teams would be serious contenders and seriously desperate for something to put them over the top. What everyone on here forgets is that teams in the past have mortgaged their future for a chance at winning the cup. If Edmonton really thought that by getting Giroux they would win the cup they wouldn't care what the Flyers asking price is.

BECAUSE IM SICK OF THIS TEAM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>And how does that happen here? Kadri is 4th in league scoring, Newhook are premium prospects and Girard is a top pairing caliber dman. How does this trade help them at all? Clue it doesn’t. It’s a screw job trade that NOT one GM in the NHL would make if they were COL. Literally Being generous Sanheim and Girard is wash, and you somehow think Couturier and Laighton net Kadri Newhook AND Barron. Put the pipe down.</div></div>
Ok genius so this is how things work. Kadri can't be trusted to not put his team in some kind of hole because of his stupidity like he did last year and in other years with the Leafs. Couts is a former Selke winner who with the right team around him would be a better asset in the playoffs than Kadri. Newhook is the price you pay to get Couts because Newhook isn't winning you a cup but Couts is. So to sum up yes Colorado gives up some of their future to win now. Forget about Girard and Sanheim that doesn't have to be a part of the deal, I just did it because it saves Colorado a million dollars and I think Sanheim is better anyway. Laughton gives you the same penalty killing and energy that Kadri gives you albeit without the scoring but is almost two million cheaper and has term left where Kadri doesn't.

You have to understand this is a trade deadline deal. Calgary overpays because that's what teams who think they have a shot at the cup do. Brassard has been very servicable thus far and Risto is that tough defenseman teams need in the playoffs. Risto as an insurance policy heading into the playoffs is worth what Calgary paid to get him. In fact Flyers could probably get more

Getting healthy and minimal additions for 22-23
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>I dont think PHI moves Giroux. (you've got a 21-22 roster)
And as a UFA I think its more likely Giroux signs in PHI for 5-6mil for 3-4 years than signs in OTT, (another 20mil in career earnings). PHI has alot of good youth (Farabee, Koneckny, Provorov, Hart) now, with high end prospects arriving (Frost, Cam York, Zamula, Alison), alot of quality mid-aged 27-30 guys (ellis when healthy, laughton, couterier, sanheim) and is much closer to being a true contender in the next 1-2 years than OTT, and they have no cap issues end if/when they move JVR.
To be fair Philly has been missing their 2nd line center and top pairing defenseman all season and is 8-4-4, their biggest concerns going into 21-22 was in goal and whether ristolinen could play defense, both of those have been answered.
Does Giroux go for the 8mil in OTT as a 2nd liner or 6mil in PHI as the captain? I just dont see the money as a Giroux thing or him going to a lesser contender</div></div>
Philly is nowhere close to contending not with the plan that Couts is their number 1 center. This team is a dumpster fire

Flyers Past History That Keeps Me Up At Night
GREAT READ!! Now if only we had actual sports writers that can write half as good as you.
My only rebuttal (having lived through all of it since 1984, you know when we had a real goaltender who couldn't save himself from a cement wall while driving drunk) is that great teams, teams that win the cup aren't lucky or don't have any adversity, they overcome all their bad luck. We could never overcome our bad luck. Even the aforementioned Lindberg couldn't beat the Oilers and probably wouldn't have in 87.
Keep those columns coming I need something to read regarding the Flyers that's not written by a 5 year old

possible lines
One can only hope that Frost is their second line center and Lindblom is good enough for the third line. Not convinced that NAK is a long term solution for the 4th line
Also, if York pushes management to have him make the roster I think Braun will be the odd man out and Yandle will be the 3rd pair

TRADE COUTS NOW
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sk540</b></div><div>Listen, everything you've said has been thought out and i appreciate the fandom coming out of you. Truly do. But players like G and coots are necessary to win a cup. No matter how you slice it, they are integral parts. It's neither of their faults that the FO has not surrounded them with better talent. Every single year was the same, it was status quo, and it was not fair. Does Sid win cups without Geno, Letang, Fluery, Kunitz, etc etc. Does Chiacgo win without Toews, Keith, Seabrook, et al? No, they don't. It's not a one man show, TB doesn't win with only Point and Kuch. They would give it a good go, but it's the Gourde's, the Palat's, the Hedman's, etc etc.
great point. thank you
You don't get rid of a guy who is possibly the best complete player in the league. There is a premium on players like Sean Couturier. And if weren't for mono, he would've probably been the number one pick that year. He immediately, as a rookie, shut down one of the most talented players (Malkin) in NHL history.....in his first year. He is not the problem, you don't sell him for pennies on the dollar, you build around him.
Take it for what you will</div></div>

TRADE COUTS NOW
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sk540</b></div><div>Honestly, I don't think that I have ever seen a write up so incorrect and off base before in my life. Not only is Couturier in the same league as Bergeron, he is basically the best comparable to Bergeron over the last few years. Hockey writers, announcers, and even NHL exec's have said as much. I don't know what you're watching but you couldn't be more wrong. Coots is one of the most underrated players in the league, and actually behind the Bruins big 3, has one of the best contracts in the league in terms of value. He is a perennial Selke finalist and just won one (which is voted on by NHL people, so you know how he's viewed around the league by people in the know), and since he was elevated into a scoring role, is basically a point per game player.
Unless you're trolling, I have no clue how you can believe what you wrote.</div></div>
No troll
Just my opinion
I've watched the Flyers since 84 and while I love Couts my biggest fear is the Flyers will over pay him and over term him. I don't care what anyone else says the Flyers aren't ready to contend. Every year since Giroux was Couts age the flyers were Stanley cup contenders. 6 years later we aren't any closer. I get it its a gamble but why not rebuild now. In fact, I really liked what Hextall was doing and the vision he had. Granted he might've not traded Couts but he was building for the future. Too say we are in win now mode is foolish
