Pretty sure LA is going to waive Englund to keep Bjornfot, his contract has to be fully paid even in the AHL which supposedly will keep teams away,

opening night if othmann crack the lineup
I like this a lot. This year is going to determine if they are legit or not. If they can make the playoffs (which i think they will) and they can move out of the first round I think that will prove a lot, but I think Panarin will regress a bit, I do not think Laf is ready to be on the top line and I expect them to live or die by the powerplay again

I mean I prefer Cuylle to play Top 6 and PP1 minutes in the AHL as opposed to sheltered minutes in the NHL

I mean hell get used to it in the AHL. Sadly they’re in win-now mode so there’s little room for mistakes to be made by othmann/cuylle

If Kane truly isnt back in time
Since when is Kane going back to NYR a thing? I havent seen one report all offseason that said its likely. Plus NYR have bigger needs imo. Kane didnt help the team one bit in his stint, and hes horrific defensively, which the rangers already have in half their lineup. NY best off getting a really good defensive forward imo. Someone like Noah Cates would help a lot more than Kane imo.
I know hes not available rn and in division would be hard but he could help a lot at the TDL or mid season even, even at a high ish price.
Or even a Backlund would help a lot more. (i think NY should stay younger but Backlund seems more likely than some of these mid-20s guys)

Rangers for sure Winners IMO, Perreault at 23 is great value and I think Fortescue was a nice pickup as well

Acquiring PLD means that the Kings are now developing Byfield as a winger, not a center.

Panarin plays a game that is very successful in the regular season but not so much in the playoffs. If NYR keep leaning on his 82 game production as an easy ticket to the playoffs, they're going to continue to be disappointed. If he's your tertiary scoring threat, that's a contender. It's time to take the training wheels off.

Let's say the Kings wanted those assets, they aren't trading someone with a <$900k contract right now even if Carter comes back at $1.5mil.

i don't think Carter is waiving to go to any team except maybe LA, but LA would not want him back and i dont think they're giving up Byfield for that.

That’s not fair at all lol. Perreault is a pretty clutch performer with lots of skill. Not many betters options at 23 imo.

Farther into the loophole I made
CHI wouldn't pay that much for Panarin. Not with his salary and only one year left. They'd just wait for the 2026 summer if they wanted to bring him back to CHI. Contrary to what most CHI fans want, it is more than likely CHI is still in this rebuild in the summer of 2026, though. So, everyone needs to relax, buckle up, and be patient.

be prepared for blowback from Edmonton fans.
Not sure Mikkola signs for that price - going to get at least what he was making this year. There will be a few options that are cheaper that can fill 3rd pair/7th D role (like De Haan for example)
Miller's deal is probably going to be a little higher - thinking start point for a bridge deal is 3 yrs @ 4mil.
Would you consider a buyout of Goodrow - will free up 4mil in space. Can use that money for a better backup goalie and a new 4th line C that shouldn't cost more than 1.75 mil (i.e. Bjudstad, Acciari), re-sign Mikkola for a deal at what he made last year, and still have cap space to either sign a 23rd player or accrue during season for the trade deadline.

LAF gets Kakko money or slightly more
Motte need 500k / more
Brassard gets league min
Kane is likely fine but more term, paid on LTIR down the road type deal. Same goes for Toews and Senko but senko a lower cap hit

I think those that chipped in have done a great job of saying what I would have.
On Patrick Kane, if he really likes the organization he might sign a team friendly deal. The thing is he's really close to breaking Chicago records and they have tons of cap space so I can totally see him returning this off-season.

Signing bonuses count towards cap.
Performances bonuses only count towards the cap when they are hit. Boston used performance bonuses on Kreijci and Bergeron this year to start the year under the cap. BUT they hit the bonuses and are going to have some serious overages for next year. Meaning they will have close to 4m less cap to play with next year.

Moves
Personally I like Goodrow. I think at the beginning of the season he was the type of player Buffalo needed in their bottom 6. Buffalo needs to get harder to play against, and Goodrow provides that in spades. Guy was good enough to play 17+ minutes a game in the playoffs for Tampa in both cup years. That said I believe they got Greenway hoping he could fill a similar type of role, so there probably wouldn't be much interest there anymore.

It feels strangely upsetting to say this but I'd argue that you might be getting fleeced on that Islanders trade - I think Goodrow is significantly better than Cizikas at this point. The other two guys are basically even (even if I think the Isles guys' are better, obviously), but if the Rangers offered Goodrow straight up for Cizikas I'm taking that trade before you can reconsider.
