Kinda not
So could Ullmark for less!
<strong>That roster</strong> was banged up from the 1st month, which is where the trouble started.

Isn’t the whole point to find players when their prices are their lowest? Holtz’s 5v5 pt/60 rates were the same as Cole Caufield. There is a lot to like.</div></div>
Montreal fans would be singing Kent Hughes praises endlessly the second a trade went through for Holtz, just like they have done with the Romanov Dach trade.

Holtz to Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>I personally don’t like Xhekaj on ice play. Struble & Harris are better and both can play PK. But what Xhekaj brings (hard hits, intimidating the other teams, our players playing better because they feels safer with Xhekaj in the line up, etc.) is something positive despite all the negative aspects he brings. He is still young and hopefully he will take less penalties going forward. For Hutson, it remains to be seen if he will play PK. He has a high IQ and active stick.</div></div>
I like what he brings in terms of Physicality but in my view at least, you can't hide a dman. Montreal has tried to hide Xhekaj (he plays the easiest competition in the league), and it just makes the life of the other dman absolute hell.
If he was a forward that I could hide for 9 minutes a game and simply give more ice time to my top guys that would be okay. But a dman, especially one who can't stay out of the box and can't provide on either special teams unit is a problem.

Holtz to Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Black61</b></div><div>You cant be stupid enough to not know how time works.
Holtz is one draft year younger than dach. Dach had 38 points in 58 games at the same point in his career.
If time doesnt matter wele give you colin white for holtz. He had 40+ points once because apararently context doesnt matter lol</div></div>
Kirby Dach at age 21 even strength stats:
8 goals, 20 pounts, 823 minutes playing mostly alongside Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki
Alex Holtz age 21 even strength stats:
15 goals 26 points 841 minutes playing alongside Tomas Nosek lmao.
But hey, Kirby Dach got 4 minutes a night on PP1 that he helped lead to being, checks notes, 29th in the league. Real valuable.

Sanderson-Marino would not be anywhere close to Sanderson-Zub this year .
Wrong Nico is overrated. He’s not a top 10 centre .
Tkachuk isn’t worth less.
I like Greig more than Holtz.
There’s a reason Holtz hasn’t been given free reign. He’s not a valuable player</div></div>
Zub played 39.8% of his minutes against elite competition
Marino played 40%.
Marino also had a higher % of his minutes against elite competition last year, and the year before.
per PuckIQ
Zub has had 1 year of good results playing 830 minutes alongside Jake Sanderson.
Marino's most common Partner this year was Kevin Bahl.
If you want to claim Kevin Bahl and Jake Sanderson are similar quality hockey players you can go ahead and do that tho.
Nico Hischier is a better hockey player than Tkachuk at a more valuable position.
Ridley Grieg with less points and goals than Holtz in more ice time. Lower Draft pedigree and upside too.

I like Pinto a lot and Brännström is massively underrated, but Mercer has shown so far that he's on a completely different level from these two.
This doesn't strike me as particularly close and the Devils should have no qualms about declining this outright.

Ullmark for Mercer Guentzel Signing
My perspective is NJD doesnt trade Mercer for Ullmark even if Boston adds a 2025 first.
I see the Mercer for Swayman, 2024 first for Swayman, and Mercer for Ullmark as all from the same unrealistic tree

Ullmark for Mercer Guentzel Signing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dekes</b></div><div>I feel highly certain Ullmark will come with an extension, especially NJ considering they have a bright future.
But again Boston has lost no leverage we have the cap to keep both goalies, and we have been very successful with both goalies. A lot of teams are showing they need a true start and bruins have the answer to their problem but they won’t sell short on a goalie who just won the vezina and continued to put up great number even after losing half the roster infront of him with minimal replacements.</div></div>
Mercer is simply just not on the table for Ullmark.
An extension is frankly irrelevant to his value.
A rental is a rental.
2025 1st+whatever sweeteners are needed to beat out other bids, sure.
But if the best price on a goalie trade is paying Mercer for Ullmark, I’d rather bring back Kahkonen and spend assets elsewhere

Ranking first overall picks since 2000
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tryger</b></div><div>I think "best" is a subjective term here, best should be who positions you to win the most games. McDavid is not a one man machine, and from hockey pundits to vegas, no one thinks of Edmonton as an empty threat team.
If you think McDavid could retire today and still be considered the best player drafted over the last 25 years, I'd agree on skill, not just yet on compete level.
I believe compete level is proven by playoff performance, I don't think it's crazy to say if McDavid doesn't get a cup appearance for his career he is not considered the best player drafted over the last 25 years.
I also think it's myopic to say the only reason the Oilers haven't won a cup is because of management. The Oilers have one of the strongest top-6 in the entire league, they have solid defense, and really just weak at goaltending, but several recent cup winners have overcome those odds. Vegas, hockey pundits, and most fans wouldn't be surprised to see the OIlers make the cup final, so I don't think we can just say "bad GM. on any other team McDavid would win a cup"</div></div>
Playoff scoring since 2022: <a href="https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20212022&seasonTo=20232024&gameType=3&sort=points,goals,assists&page=0&pageSize=50" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20212022&seasonTo=20232024&gameType=3&sort=points,goals,assists&page=0&pageSize=50</a>

The Bruins today are a bad comp for the Canucks from that year.
The Bruins aren’t trading Swayman for a #10 pick.
I can see why the Devils are saying they won’t trade a #10 pick for Ullmark.
I do want to say one thing to Jersey fans … a top 10 pick and the #10 pick are two different things in terms of value. It’s basically the range where you move from great to good prospects in this draft

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>Don't be ridiculous the original offer from NJ wasn't just Holtz. It was Holtz + Casey + NJ 2024 1st for Marky with retention.
From https://www.spectorshockey.net/2024/04/sunday-nhl-rumor-roundup-april-21-2024/
SPECTOR’S NOTE: It’s rumored Flames ownership spiked the Markstrom trade to New Jersey because Calgary was still in the hunt for a playoff spot. There was also speculation that Conroy set a high asking price from the Devils including Dawson Mercer or Alexander Holtz, top prospect Seamus Casey and a first-round pick.
Even New Jersey fan sites agree that's probably what the deal Flames ownership shot down was. But keep ignoring everything that doesn't match your dreams.</div></div>
<strong><em>"There was also speculation"</em></strong>
But you go on believing that. Go look up what San Jose Fans had coming their way for Timo Meier last year. Then look at the return. They did good but NO WHERE NEAR what their fanbase expected. Did Conroy try and get another Lindholm trade, sure! But Fitz was never going that away.
Go pedal your guy elsewhere, but when he's gone lets just see how close he was to this insane ask. I'll be here.
