Wasn’t Jason Robertson picked in the 2nd Round!?
I guess where you were picked is all that matters to this guy. Scouting & Development are non-factors. I mean we keep drafting crappy players I guess: Gaudreau, Mangiapane, Andersson, Kylington, Dube. All were just mediocre prospects, right!?

BIG trade with Dallas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>So in Lindholm, Huberdeau, Robertson, Weegar, Kadri, Markstrom you'd have 45 - 50M in cap space taken up, with a projected 88M cap. Let's call it optimistically 43M to fill out 8 forwards, 5D and a goalie. Andersson, Coleman, Mangiapane are under contract with trade protection, 15.25M. So you're at about 28M to fill out a competitive roster with a severe lack of high end talent in the system (28th ranked prospect pool).</div></div>
My counter proposal has Coleman waiving & going to DAL, here check it out: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/3680970

BIG trade with Dallas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>Well that's not true either... it's been said over and over again that he didn't think another team was able to acquire him so he vetoed the trade strictly to stay in Toronto. He said that even the year of the deal
How does it make Dallas better though? Giving up your top offensive player for two middle six guys an AHL defenseman and a prospect that projects middle 6 coming off a bad camp doesn't help them really.. Your proposal is essentially a 23 year old Huberdeau for Mason Marchment, Denis Gurianov, Ben Gleasson, Mavrik Bourque and a 1st. You taking that?
I can be a Flames fan and still have a semblance of common sense when it come to valuations of Flames players.</div></div>
Pelletier is a Top Prospect who will be NHL next season if he isn't already. Dube still has a high ceiling and room to improve even more yet; he'll prove to be a solid Top-6 guy this year. Coleman is amazingly solid defensively and on the PK and can put up 20+ Goals and contribute offensively as a Top-6 Forward too. Valimaki would fit in nicely with the Finnish D-Contingency DAL has. They'd get 4 Roster Players for the price of 1 and although none are as good as Robertson, 3 are & will be very good NHL Hockey Players
Teams Win Hockey Games, not individuals, so DAL would get a Better Balanced Team is how they'd improve imo

First he's on 3.25m contract and even if he leaves as UFA...his position has be filled by another player which cost $$$$. Yea maybe Toffoli could be moved...but his return would be very little, just like 7m Pacioritty who actually cost Vegas assets to move. 4.5m Tanev has M NTC....he can easily block any trade to a team (poor) team that has cap .</div></div>
Flames paid a 1st + Top Prospect for Toffoli just 7.5 months ago and would return little to nothing now!? How does that make sense!?
Toffoli's going to put up a lot more offense this season, especially if he's in the Top 6, if anything, his value will increase

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>yycofred</b></div><div>Essentially putting Lindholm, Hanifin, Tanev, Zadorov on the open market the following season with no depth in the system because this move guts the picks and high end prospects.</div></div>
Nope, Lindholm definitely gets re-signed, but yes, it could come at the cost of one of Tanev, Hanifin or Zadorov. We already have replacement depth in Meloche, Mackey, Kuznetsov, Poirier and if/when we move Tanev, Hanifin &/or Zadorov it’ll be for Picks & Prospects to replenish the depth for the future
Tanev being the last guy I want to Trade but he will be 33 in December here and has a history of injuries, so we can’t really expect him to play like has for us forever. Might have to take our gains and sell him while he still has value in the off-season.

BIG trade with Dallas
My initial thoughts on the trade are take out Coronato and one of the 1sts and add/swap Valimaki instead of the 2nd Round Pick then get Coleman to waive and send him to Dallas instead of Lucic.
I like what Coleman brings to the Team but $4.9mil is pretty steep for a 3rd liner and Coleman waiving to play at Home seems more realistic and is better value than Lucic agreeing to go to DAL
As for affording Robertson next season once Huberdeau & Weegar’s extensions kick in, both Kylington and Toffoli could be moved by next off-season and I believe the Cap is projected to increase to $83.5mil, so it’d work

Gadreau for Hall The deal that gets it done
I really like this idea, but my only issue is that hall is a UFA next offseason and while he most likely would resign in Calgary, he’s gonna be a lot more expensive than Gaudreaus current cap hit. Still a very cool idea though.

Calgary Flames new look. Younger and faster!
To be honest, "new look" is a touch misleading, given how little you actually did. That's a good thing, though! The Flames need continuity, not big changes. I love the decision to keep the 3M line together. Most Flames lineups I've seen on CF break them up and I don't get why. Backlund and Frolik aren't exactly big names, but that line's prowess in all 3 zones should not be underestimated. All 3 have 20-goal upside too.
Just a couple quibbles:
1. Grabner's running you at least 4 million, probably 5. He'll probably request a touch more term, too (Matt Cane has him projected at 4 years, which is a bad idea, but some GM'll probably do it)
2. Lindholm probably doesn't take 6 years at that money, more like 3.
3. Probably want to upgrade at backup. That hole killed CGY last year, and Smith could well get hurt again.
These are minor issues, the core idea of this team is great. Well done!

I like this new Flames team. You are the first person I have seen to give reasonable contracts to RFAs Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm. I like the way this team looks with Hanifin and Lindholm in the mix.

You need those darts to throw at the board to eventually get a bullseye. No first or second round picks for 2 straight years is putting an incredible amount of pressure on your scouting staff to produce something out of a late round pick which likely won't happen. Getting absolutely nothing out of 2 years worth of drafts would be suicide.

Trade Dougie
No don't part with a top end RHD d who is 24, without getting a solid RW back is a non starter.
Last D man with any ilk that was moved, was Seth Jones for Ryan Johansen, Calgary will not move Dougie for a package, we need to upgrade our roster, not add depth. Also Dougie is probably worth more than a middle 6 winger, bottom end 1st rounder and a B prospect. Doesn't fit any needs

Totally agree with you, but its gotta be Nylander++ coming back in my opinion. Not sure if you agree, but I would be disappointed if it wasn't a 1st+Nylander+D replacement
Edit: Also I don't support moving a top pairing D who is under 25, as Gio is 34 and sooner or later Dougie will be our best Defenseman. You dont move these type of players unless they ask, or we have a guy like Adam Fox come in and takes ice away from Dougie then I could see us moving one or the other. Otherwise don't move a young 50pts Defenceman, who is just STARTING to become better and better in his own end. You can see Dougie separating players from pucks and breaking up cycles, he is the real deal.

What the Flames would look like next year if I was GM
Alzner is properly valued here honestly (although he'll probably want more). Bishop is far and away the hottest goalie on the market, so this is an overpayment that makes sense. You overpaid the RFAs a little imo, and you forced a bunch of centers into their unnatural wing positions. I also do not trust Bennett on the top line. I'd give you a 3.5 if that was possible but I'll be generous.
