Next Season - Build through UFA market
Doubt that the hawks do this much but I do think we'll go big game hunting at least once in the next few seasons if Nylander, Draistle, or Raantanen hit the market

Realistic Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SpinyLiving</b></div><div>Any offer for Dickinson starts with a 2nd round pick. He's been phenomenal this season playing 3rd and 4th line minutes with no PP time. Also, nobody wants McMann, he's a 27 year old AHL player.</div></div>
Totally agree, McMann is a jersey filler nothing more. Dickinson has been one of the few bright lights for the Hawks this season, he plays a very solid defensive game and can chip in with offence on a regular basis. He would be an ideal third line centre for most team and comes with a very affordable contract. If the Hawks can’t get a 2nd round pick for him I think he stays in Chicago and they try to work out an extension.

Talk about a bold move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gofnut999</b></div><div>The package is more than what Gretzky pulled and he came with 2 valuable long term assets in Krush and Marty. Not a long term cap dump that devalues the package and would cost significant assets to move.
Ully/Debrusk/1st/Lysell/Merkulov for Drai and Campbell with 50% retention would be much closer to realistic.
If there is no cap dump then Lysell/Merk would likely need to be replaced with Poitras.
BTW the 3 1sts that EDM got in the Gretzky deal were used on Jason Miller, Martin Rucinsky, and Nick Stajduhar. Which means the throw in mid level player Gelinas ended up being more valuable than 2 of the 1sts. 1sts generally don’t end up being as valuable as known assets. It’s hit or miss.</div></div>
The most valuable thing in the Gretzky trade was the $15 Million going back, which can't be done anymore.
All of the players meant nothing and the picks were an ok addition, the Oilers owner <strong>NEEDED</strong> money so he sold Gretzky.

Let’s be real here. This is a fleece by the Leafs. If they were to get out of Bertuzzi’s contract, get rid of Klingberg, and acquire Tk for scraps Treliving would do it in a heartbeat.

Short term pain
CHI might be interested in Dube for a 3rd. As for Andersson, I'm not sure. That is a good price and he is a desirable player, but if CHI isn't planning on being a playoff team in the 25-26 season, I would think they might want to keep their lottery pick for the rebuild. That is the same year his contract expires and he would be turning 30 early the following season. That would have them watching Calgary use their 2026 1st round pick while negotiating a large extension with a 30 year old RHD and not being done with the rebuild. Sounds like that has mistake written all over it. If CHI wants Andersson that summer, they will just wait for him to be a UFA and give him an offer, rather than paying for years that they don't need him.

Looking at Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SpinyLiving</b></div><div>Vegas has multiple young NHL calibre D in the AHL, so they need to create a roster spot for them, and a need for a 3rd line winger. As for playoffs and a matchup vs McDavid, Vegas's forward duos, especially Karlsson-Smith and Eichel - Barbashev were much more impactful on that matchup.</div></div>
Ya Eichel line killed it. Not sure why our coach didn't match our lines better. When we played Foegele-McCloud-Ryan against Eichel's line, they outperformed them.

Filmon and Hameenaho make team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Filmon looked great in camp.
Hameenaho has produced for both club and country this year. Not sure how you’d write him off.</div></div>
Liiga is the slowest major Euro league and he still looks slow. His stride is clunky and he lacks any sort of agility. He will not be able to make the NHL without AHL time to ease the transition.
As for Filmon, I don't understand how anyone can watch him, especially in his pro games, and come to any conclusion other than that he isn't ready. He needs to bulk, and he also needs an AHL stint.
Even Casey will need AHL time, there's no way Filmon or Hameenaho don't.

Intriguing future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>You are right that the deal wouldn't be easy and EF reported it but they simply granted permission to the agent to look for a deal with some teams interested. I think they are fine with him on the squad unless they get value for him.</div></div>
Just to add into your back and forth. I think without question the number one thing Vancouver wants to do is get rid of Garland's contract as it has 3 yrs of term left and they need to reallocate that money into getting another top 4 dman. I think despite him being a decent enough player, there are real doubts about his ability to play with good players or in a top of the lineup role. On top of that teams know Vancouver wants out of the contract and aren't going to give anything of significance back. The Canucks will lose the player for player value in this trade without question but I think barring giving up a sweetener to get rid of him it would be a good move because the organization has depth on the wing. Lyubushkin for Garland is a good trade for both teams and one the Canucks should definitely make in my opinion. Lyubushkin is a serviceable player on and expiring deal, its perfect.

For me that’s not enough to take three years of Joseph at roughly $3m per. Ottawa has two 1st round picks in the upcoming draft, in order to take that contract one of those picks ends up in Chicago.

I would just add the 2nd deal to the Meier deal, but you would have to take back some low level (C grade prospects) AHL contracts to make it work.
