Heres the Plan

Description
Ok TBL...here's the plan.

Step 1 - Realize that we're in LTIR world until Vasi comes back. AKA TBL has cap space until he comes back.
Step 2 - Make the Trade below because the Hawks are trying to develop their 3 other goalie prospects and Tomkins is familiar with their AHL team/system...makes sense. Obviously trade value debatable. Let's have that conversation.
Step 3 - Days before he comes back waive Jonas, Fleury, and Watson...
Step 4 - Yes, I potentially did just send Mrazek out there with only an emergency goalie available...it's 1 game. It's clear TBL doesn't have a healthy/competent goalie right now. You are contenders, but if you keep sending ECHL goalies out there like Tomkins is....that's a hole you're digging yourself in a BRUTAL Atlantic division.
Trades

  1. Mrázek, Petr ($1,900,000 retained)
CHI
  1. Myers, Philippe

There are many proposals on this website

This is most certainly one of them. For better or worse, I'll let you decide

Gotta get some better than an ECHL goalie in there.

Why burn through assets like this when the team doesn't even know if Vasy will come back fully healthy to save the day once he is off of LTIR? Stamkos is up after this year, but the rest of the team is still signed next year. I think if you are Tampa, you keep your ear to the ground to see if a goalie can be had on the cheap, and otherwise you just push forward and hope for the best with Vasy. It sucks for them, but I think their FO has earned a bit of patience from their players and fans.

Understand why they'd make a trade like this, and I like it from the Hawks perspective. Why didn't they just claim a goalie off waivers though?

Given that they currently hold Tampa’s lottery protected 2024 1st round pick, the Hawks really have to weigh whether or not they want to help Tampa. It may be better to let them struggle with below average goaltending and potentially miss the playoffs.

I believe it's top 10 protected. Not lottery protected.

And maybe that's where they go next? Waive Tomkins once a different netminder becomes available.

Would definitely be nice to see that pick fall in the 11 - 15 range.

Tampa Bay isn't spending $1.9m on a backup goalie and sacrificing their 13th F once Vasy is back. If this was the route they wanted to take, there are better options than Mrazak at a $2m cap hit. Although Mrazak has been great in his first two starts.

It's only been 3 games so clearly an overaction, but it should be an eye opener for their Front Office because the Atlantic is a total beast of a division. Losses to DET/OTT are not good. If this continues, TBL doesn't want to find themselves in a hole they simply can't get out of because of that division.

Or the Hawks could just let the Bolts flounder with terrible goaltending maximizing the 1st round pick of theirs they hold until Vasy gets back

Not sure if you've watched any Tampa games or not. The goaltending hasn't been stellar. But they are giving up a ton of odd man rushes and their D hasn't been very good either. Perbix and Raddysh are both off to shakey starts. It's a bigger issue than just the goaltending. Tompkins gave up 3 goals on 37 shots last night. He was actually pretty solid.

Once you get past Hedman, Sergachev and Cernak, Tampa’s backend is questionable.
