<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StonyOil</b></div><div>buying out Koskinen would be dumb, he has a year left why would you want to extend that dead money?
people forget he dwarfed smiths numbers in 19-20</div></div>

Yeah, I really don't understand the hate. He's been ok-to-good over the past 2 seasons, aside from the start of this season when Holland screwed up the goalie situation and Koskinen was forced to play 12 games in 24 days - a workload that no goalie can stand up under.

Among the 62 goalies (31 teams x 2) to play at least 1350 minutes at 5v5 over the past 2 years, Koskinen ranks 44th in SV% and 19th in HDSV%. It's interesting to look at the list, actually:

SV% (SA/60)
39. Andersen: .917 (29.65)
40. Demko: .917 (32.11)
41. Georgiev: .917 (31.03)
42. Gibson: .916 (31.07)
43. Rittich: .916 (30.34)
44. Koskinen: .915 (<strong>32.34</strong>)
45. Korpisalo: .915 (29.28)

Many fans want to buyout Koskinen and then spend a huge amount of assets to bring in a guy like Gibson or Korpisalo, both of whom faced fewer shots but didn't actually perform any better than Koskinen.

HDSV% (HDSA/60) for select goalies in same range
12. Hellebuyck: .838 (<strong>8.79</strong>)
13. Khudobin: .837 (6.38)
16. Varlomov: .835 (7.31)
19. Koskinen: .833 (<strong>8.50</strong>)
21. Merzlikins: .832 (6.94)
23. Price: .831 (6.96)
24. Fleury: .829 (7.46)
26. Kuemper: .825 (6.83)

I fully acknowledge that Koskinen had a disappointing season this year, but if you take into account that (1) a good part of that was due to poor management and (2) his 2 year results are still pretty strong, it doesn't make much sense to buy him out this summer.

Yep. Edmonton needs better depth scoring in order to become a serious contender. Sports Illustrated cites data collected by a senior analyst of data and analytics at BMO, who watched McDavid’s shifts against the Jets in isolation and counted more than nine possible penalties per game, all that were not called. Apparently "there were at least three instances per game where the infractions were egregious and blatantly obvious." The loser's argument is that the officials should have called the infractions. Imagine, at least 18 minutes of power play time per playoff game! The reality is that isn't going to happen. Tampa is a great example of a team with elite level talent that had to learn this lesson the hard way. It was not too long ago that Columbus unceremoniously dispatched the President's Trophy winning Lightening through an extraordinary display of "character and determination" (the same "attributes" that gave Winnipeg the sweep over Edmonton and may give the Habs a sweep over the Jets).

Killorn would be a good addition for the Oilers. He would bring playoff experience to the dressing room, and some scoring depth to the ice. However, I agree with some of the previous comments, Tampa is the team in a position of weakness and Broberg is too high a price to pay for a 31-year-old with two seasons left on his contract. Fortier is not enough to give the trade balance.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyFan989</b></div><div>well my take is Holland is the best thing that happened since McDavid for the Oilers.... he really set the ship straight from the Chiarelli mess, their best years r ahead of them</div></div>

Care to explain how Draisaitl and McDavid winning back-to-back Hart trophies and Smith having a revelation as a 39 year-old counts as "setting the ship straight"?

Most of what the Oilers had/have was here before Holland: the scouts are essentially the same so I don't even consider the Broberg-Lavoie draft to be of any credit to Holland except maybe Broberg &gt; Zegras which is an undeniable loss any day of the week. All I've seen from Holland thus far is two flubbed deadlines (any quality owner would fire their GM if during a historic season they claimed that 'you can't go for it every year'; what the hell would you say your job is at that point?), an anchor contract in Kassian, and through this setup, a long-term issue with the salary cap.

This roster is improved sure, but it's not the best it could be, and the organization as a whole is still 20 years+ behind most of the rest of the league by refusing to invest in anything except old hockey men. Holland refused to get creative with the salary cap this past offseason (I still don't know why wasn't there a Neal buyout last summer: the plan was to play him a year then cut him loose) and failed to address the bottom six when his bets in Kahun and Turris went sideways.

Years burnt from Draisaitl and McDavid's primes are still years burnt regardless of who's in charge.
