I don’t think they waive him. I think they find someone to trade for him. So if you want him then you have to offer something. Does MG want him?
We still need forwards. You don’t have 13 solid NHL forwards yet.
Sharks needs:
Top 2 line center (hopefully fixed by winning the lottery- smith and celebrini)
2 top pairing dman
3/4 line forwards. Assuming Eklund, zetterlund, musty, and bordeleau are top 6 wingers.

Those picks on the sharks trade might be the 3rd party to retain. Maybe.
No way you get Blackwood and give sharks a 3 year salary dump for two change of scenery players. You are going to need to add likely a 1st and 2nd due to the dump.

I could see them going after Robertson. I don’t think the Leafs can keep him at the NHL level all year and he won’t clear waivers. The question is what would the sharks give for him? TB 3rd?

I don’t think the sharks do both of them for a 2nd. Strum is tradable for sure. Zadina is likely possible future core until he is replaced by another young forward.

If MG has the roster spot and the MNTC doesn’t stop it, then he might do it. Get him more ice time and improve the stats to flip him at the TBL.

Sharks are a no I think. He is 28 and likely too old for long term plans. Unless they think they can flip him at the TDL for better picks and prospects aka like Duclair.

I would also like to explore what the leafs would take for Robertson. He needs a change and he can’t be waived next year. I just don’t see them able to keep him on the nhl roster and he won’t clear waivers.

I like it for the most part.
I wouldn’t do that trade though. Keep Blackwood.
I would resign Kunin.
I would try rehard to trade G. Smith, Burroughs, Benning, and Rutta. I would want any picks that you can get for them. That is more roster spots to sign turn arounds or take a UFA dump. Get the pick with the dump and you might get luck and flip the player for another pick.

We must draft well throughout the draft. We have to develop players well. If we fail in that, then this process will never end.

Don’t buyout Vlasic. You are trying to reach the cap floor and a buyout doubles the term of dead money. That could hurt you in years you are trying to actual make the playoffs.
Don’t bring up any of the big names. Let them stay in juniors/ncaa. 2024-25 needs/ is going to be another rough year.
Take cap dumps that don’t hurt development. Just view Vlasic as a cap dump from Wilson.
I would try to trade Benning, Burroughs, and Smith over the summer if you need roster spots.
Rutta, Strum, Granlund, and any cap dump that improves play are your trade deadline pieces.
We need develop top 6 forwards and top pairing Dman. We look ok in cover the bottom and middle pairing.
We just have to wait and see on Logan. Last report didn’t sound good. He might be IR / LTIR for the rest of his contract.

San Jose says heck no.
That contract has 6 year left on it. The amount of draft capital to move that to SJS would be insane. They have no problem getting to the floor. They need to sign like 10+ players and only need like $13 million to get the floor. I assume it will be around $63million.
Vlasic and Logan’s contracts plus dead cap make getting to the floor pretty easy.

To be fair: NJD winning the lottery is more likely than SJS trading Strum for a 3rd. Pretty sure it will take a 2nd or 3rd plus prospect to get him (see TB trade for Duclair).

Sharks fan here: Holl and a 2nd for Burroughs I would do.
I think we need to move Burroughs, Benning, G Smith, & Rutta this Summer. I would trade Granlund too for the right price, but prefer to do that at the TD.
They need some roster spots on defense for younger players. Forward spots need to be younger players or cap dumps.

Next Year
Why would SJS have a 2nd and 4th for a player that you can’t keep? Robertson isn’t waiver exempt next year, so the leafs have to keep him at the NHL level. He doesn’t clear waivers to move back to the AHL.
Can the leaf use a roster spot on him all year? Not likely. The leafs should call MG and try for a 2nd knowing they will are praying for Tampa’s 3rd owned by SJS.

If the sharks are taking 30 year old players then you are paying them to take them or taking less than they are worth (aka Florida trading Duclair for a 5th)
I don’t see those being trade bait players like Duclair was.

Usually $5 million in dump is worth a 1st.
You are at 2 years for 10million. What is he true market value? I think MG is planning on rolling with Vanecek and Blackwood. Even if you make it a first round pick then only real selling point to the sharks is it helps them reach the floor.
They can get more using that cap space —- taking dumps unless this one is made a lot sweeter.

Yea. What are you sending the Sharks? I am sure we would move Granlund, but it will take a 2nd. You don’t have a 2nd.
I guess SJS would do Tampa’s 3rd and Granlund for COl 1st.

I don’t see those FA signings. If you wanted good older players then you keep Hertl. They are going young (players less than 25). They have vets for the younger players. They want trade bait for 2025 deadline and assets to take salary dumps.

I see the sharks taking 1 year salary dumps or young FA. The only higher dollar FA will be to get to the cap floor and be 1 year trade bait deals.
The push to win will be in 2025-26 and onward.
