Some changes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Planning_the_parade</b></div><div>How so? Gardiner is arguably the 4th best LHD on the team and will walk asa UFA in the spring. Kadri is a #2 offensive C who is miscast as a shutdown 3rd line player making 4.5 mil. Spurgeon is a #1-2 and is arguably better than Reilly. Glendening and Foligno provide needed grit and shutdown acumen, and both have term, both, both for the same price as Kadri alone. Leafs stregthen their top four D and their bottom 6. But, yes,...somehow thats worse.</div></div>
Gardiner is a slightly worse Spurgeon but LH, losing a solid 2C on a good contract that supplies most of the teams grit is a huge loss for now and less so next year. Glendening is overpaid and by almost all accounts, terrible.

Leafs need some grit
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Doubt if the the Leafs to or can afford 3.9m Shaw next year. Grit, shouldn't be confused with NHL competence. Grit? Being down 3 goals Saturday and beating Montreal. So tell me just by that game, what team had grit?</div></div>
Agree, adding someone who can stand up for the boys would be good, but not at the cost of downgrading skill. Ferland and Simmonds make a whole lot more sense (At the right cost obviously) but having a player who can punch people is only good if he's also helping you win.

Trade Deadline Hopes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Miller had one good year last year. You know my take, so many fans all RHDs on any team are better than any Leaf Dman. Miller get PP that skews his stats, he's average at best playing defence. I like Rosen, next year. not too parachute in taking Gardiner's spot now.</div></div>
I don't think Miller is a Norris Dman or anything, but at 3.45 he'd be a solid second pair especially as a RD. Compared to Zaitsev his possession and zone exit stats are far superior and I see that as a huge problem with our right side. I think getting Dermott more minutes would only be positive for us, don't think Rosen would have a problem holding down 3rd pair minutes either. BTW miller had absolutely unreal underlying numbers when he was on the 3rd pair in Boston too, just lower minutes

Trade Deadline Hopes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Gee, I hope not. Losing two superior Dmen. This Miller for Norris fantasy has to end.</div></div>
I agree Gardiner is better, but Dermott moving up and hainsey moving down also has to be considered here. We also gain a D for future years as Gardiner is walking 100 percent. Miller is 10x better than Zaitsev though.

I actually like the way the habs will be built next year, hard to say as a leafs fan lol. I think you'd be well off looking for a couple solid LD with the cap space left though

trying this out
I'd say Gardiner is slightly better but he's a LD who isn't a resigning candidate for TML. Miller has fallen out of favor in VGK, if they have the cap to try to resign Gardiner it would make sense for both teams.

Trading Nylander is Ridiculous
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>I agree that there's no way they will or should trade Nylander without it being some kind of major haul in return.
But I also watch every minute of every leaf game...and Marner is a significantly more complete player than Nylander. Let's just be happy we'll have both for a very long time</div></div>
I can accept that opinion for sure. We have 4 star forwards that we don't need to constantly compare, complain about or trade away

Trading Nylander is Ridiculous
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DirtyDangles</b></div><div>He is better both offensively and defensively. Marner plays against harder competition that Nylander. Everything about his game is better. You just have a hard on for Nylander for some reason.</div></div>
-Marner has played against a LOT easy competition for the first 2 years of their careers and has played more minutes + way more PP time and teammates.
- Nylander can play C
- Nylander has far superior zone entry/exit stats.
- Since last year Marners assist rate is 1.64 and Nylanders is.... 1.64
Nylander has a nicer shot/puck control and Marner has better patience and handles.
I'm not even picking on Marner, I love him as a player. They're both star players who the Leafs are lucky to have. The Don Cherryesque gap is the problem.
He is just not nearly as good as Auston and possibly slightly better than Nylander
