Sharks Acquire Konecny and a 4th from PHI In Exchange for Labanc and Weisblatt
I don’t want to lose Weisblatt. We still don’t know his potential ceiling yet.
I think trading Labanc right now would be a cap dump and selling low. I rather not lose Weisblatt over that.
Labanc for a low draft pick if anyone is willing to take. (He still has term on his contract.)

Evander Kane 3 Way Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>goodfella</b></div><div>It's a bad thing. They're not deep enough to compete for a Cup. They need to tank another year and try for next year.</div></div>
It’s only a quarter of the season in. There is still a ton of the season left. James Reimer, who has been beasting, cannot possibly keep this up all season long. He has to eventually fatigue and taper down. He’s a “platoon” type of goalie and Adin Hill would really need to step up if the Sharks want to keep up this wild card/playoff spot contention alive.
The good news is if they are in the playoff hunt is that Tomas Hertl may want to re-sign and believe the Sharks have a new cup window in the following years.
The cap is going to be very difficult when you got to eventually give pay raises to Meier, Ferraro, etc. and that doesn’t even include Hertl re-signing.
I keep hearing that this draft class is deep and I have no clue how to pick prospects, but would a mid-tier to late first round draft pick be pointless/obsolete?
To be honest, I rather not have the Sharks get their teeth knocked in the first or second round of the playoffs anyways, but with all these long term contracts, something tells me the Sharks are still not going anywhere for a while.

Next year Roster Prediction
I have a question about Barabanov. Is he playing well because he is on the line with Hertl so his stats are a bit inflated or could he possibly hold his own and be worth that kind of money in the contract extension proposal? I want to also mention that he's dirt cheap right now and if the Sharks decide to sell during the trade deadline, he could easily be traded to a playoff contender cause his cap hit isn't much and he seems to be on a high note right now. Just an idea cause he could fetch us some picks too.
I'm a bit on the fence. If Hertl doesn't want to re-sign by the trade deadline, try to get something before it's too late when he becomes an UFA. I also think if the Sharks wait until the offseason, Hertl might only be worth a low draft pick cause it's just his signing rights before being an UFA.
I also think that if Hertl is gone, Barabanov may be worth trying to trade as well. Obviously, a massive hole will be left in the lineup and I'm not certain we have replacements ready for that besides looking into free agency.

The Dream
Getting rid of Labanc would be difficult. He is playing awful this season, he is nowhere near living up to his contract, not to mention, there are still more years left on his contract. If the Sharks try to move him now, it would be selling low. He's having a major down year so far. I think the only way Labanc gets off this team is with retention and/or we trade prospects/draft picks which is a big "NOPE". I want to also mention that Timo Meier had an awfully low couple of seasons and seems to be resurging so maybe consider holding onto Labanc around or at least until his stock goes back up a bit?
Also, don't need Pavelski back on this team. The Sharks need to get younger and faster. I'd like more NHL ice time for the young ones. Pavelski had his time with San Jose. This is also Couture's team now.

My TDL ideas
Honestly, Evander Kane can play. He was the best Sharks player last season. His future ex-wife keeps stirring the pot. Just allegation after allegation, drama after drama. Now, I'm not siding with Evander by any means, I am sure they both screwed up the marriage, but maybe if he talked with the entire Sharks organization from front office to the locker room and apologized that his personal life has gotten him in too much trouble, however, he has a plan to remedy all of that, perhaps the team may allow him to be on the roster? Maybe a vote?
-His gambling addiction/debt caused him to be bankrupt. Supposedly he's getting help with that now and more than likely, a compromise/settlement will occur with what he needs to pay. Easier said than done, but he needs to banish all betting completely because he will be an addict with ideas of relapse always on the back of his mind.
-He is divorcing his wife since obviously that marriage has gone to the point of no return/unsalvageable. He seems to still be in custody of their daughter until further notice from divorce court.
-He has reported to the San Jose Barracuda. Condition him, make him back to pro hockey form, make sure he isn't negative towards anyone, give it some time, see how things go from there.
As a teammate in the locker room, is he truly awful and destructive or is it just his personal life getting in the way? If it's truly too late for everything for Kane, eventually either a trade with retention (stays in the NHL) or buyout will occur (off to the KHL). The Sharks don't seem to need him, but it's only been a quarter of the season in, and his $7 million AAV is still a heavy burden even with retention/buyout.

Don't want Debrusk. If anything, I'd trade Simek for Debrusk straight up just to "shake things up" and their money is around the same. Simek is basically a 7th D man now. The only way Debrusk ends up on the Sharks lineup is if he was on waivers and more than likely other teams would try to pick him up as well.

Trading Kane
What I am most concerned is who we will lose besides Kane as part of the trade. The Sharks need their draft picks and prospects especially since it’s a “win later” motive right now.
Also, obviously the cap hit if there is any retention. There has to be a point where a trade retention is worse than a buyout for Kane though. That may also be subjective.

Kane and Karlsson to the Nucks
If nobody wants Kane without screwing over the Sharks, just buy him out, drive him to the airport, and let him fly to play in the KHL.
The problem is that there isn’t much room left for future buyouts i.e. Vlasic.
Honestly, just let them play until 2027 when Couture’s and EK65’s contracts are up and so is everyone else’s before that time.

Vegas doesn’t even need Burns when they have Petrangelo. Also, I highly doubt San Jose and Vegas would be trading partners for anything substantial besides a draft pick swap.

I hope people realize that if CBJ really wanted Nick Bonino, they could've just signed him during free agency day. It's not like he's in crazy demand. Now, they give up their first for someone they could've signed this off season?
I don't think even Steve Yzerman could pull this heist off.

1. The injuries
2. That core is aging like curdled milk that was left out of the sun for 5 years straight</div></div>
I would say his main defense is his production last season with the Sharks. He was voted as Sharks best player of the year. I also think if he was throwing games, it would show more during his ice time (kind of like Dubois when he was beyond flat waiting to get off the team and be traded away). I could be wrong, but does his future ex-wife knows what he bets on and how he bets? I read that Kane got back with his former fling during this separation that may have caused his future ex-wife to rant on social media. We'll find out if the NHL finds any evidence of his gambling if it's on sports.
In regards to the core, it's going to be like that until the end of 2027. Hopefully the new kids will be ready by then.

Who you got replacing Kane/Kessel afterward? Kessel as a rental kind of sucks too especially since I don't think we should be touching the playoffs any time soon. Just my opinion, but I suppose if this is a push to get into the playoffs, a Kane replacement would be necessary if he gets terminated.
Would someone like Eklund be ready to replace Kane/Kessel?

A concern that I have is having Merkley pair with Vlasic even with limited 3rd pairing minutes. You got a past his prime Pickles with an offensive defenseman without much NHL experience. Don't want to hang Hill out to dry.
I actually prefer to have Vlasic with another shutdown defenseman. All they do is shutdown and not expecting any offense generated. They kill minutes before the top 2 defensive pairs are rested and get back on the ice.

Only a third to get Kessel? Seems kind of low? The problem is that we cannot re-sign him afterward unless he takes a similar contract/less money. There is no cap space with pending Sharks free agents next off season.

If Kane's contract is terminated, I wonder what Doug Wilson will do. Is he going to attempt to replace him (I really hope he does not and try to trade more of our future for a replacement) or he's going to save the cap space because Hertl, Ferraro, and Knyzhov are all due for raises next off season?
I also wonder what happens to Kane. Does he get banned and go to the KHL?

I like Brannstrom. I think the Golden Knights will regret trading him away (I know it was partially to get Mark Stone). Just like how they regret trading Nick Suzuki for Max Pacioretty. It bit them back in their conference finals with Montreal. Nick Suzuki developed into quite the hockey player.
It looks like Johnny Hockey was to replace Kane. I don't want to lose Wiesblatt, our 1st, and Merkley for these trades though. We need our future. I suppose this is only if Sharks are really trying to still "win now" which is delusional.

Eichel
I don't think Eichel wants to go from the worst team in the league last year to an only a tad slightly better team this year. I think the whole purpose of Eichel wanting out is not only because of the difference of recovery method for his injury (him wanting neck surgery), but also because the Sabres failed to build a better team. Eichel wants to compete and contend. He probably wants playoffs experience.
I also don't see why the Sharks need Eichel right now. The Sharks aren't in contention. Even with Eichel, we still have too much money tied to past stars of the league i.e. Vlasic, Burns, EK65, Cooch, etc. It wouldn't make us a dominant team again just because Eichel is on the roster. He needs proper help and support.
Also, I would be absolutely aggravated if the Sharks continue to sell their future when it's clear that the current core cannot get it done anymore and it's time to build up the next crew up.

Pavelski's time with the Sharks is done. Unless he wants to finish his current contract at $7 million AAV and come back to the Sharks and sign at like league minimum to retire as a Shark or something, he isn't going to fit under the cap. Also, the team should be getting younger, not older. We got to stop living in the past.

Top 5 prospect pool
This is what happens when a team like the Sharks have been dominant or at least in Stanley Cup contention for so long. They end up with draft picks that are at the bottom and pick from the remaining bunch after so many teams had already taken their turn. They were in "win now" mode for the longest time, hence, the long-term contracts with past stars that have now shown their performance regression (bad side of the contracts). They were also trading their first round draft picks in the hopes of getting players that would push them to win the Cup. It was a gamble. General Manager Doug Wilson gambled. It just didn't work.
The Sharks are in purgatory. They're stuck with long-term contracts (Martin Jones was just bought out) and trying to build the next generation's core players i.e. Bordeleau, Eklund, Wiesblatt, etc. It's going to be a while before the Sharks are relevant again.
Ideally to me, I would get as many overall top 5-10 draft picks as possible, let them be farmed and simmer in the Barracuda/minor league level of hockey play until they're ready for the big leagues. The face of the team will change in a few years... probably the latest being after the 2027 season when Couture's and EK65's contracts are expired. We'll see how they do and how they're developed by then.
Is it wrong for me to want the San Jose Barracuda as a top notch AHL team in the coming years than watch having the Sharks be stuck in mediocrity/bottom of the league?
