Letang was hurt after immediately after Dumo. He got into a scrum to stand up from him and was tackled to the ice. It looked like he hurt his neck on the way down.

This isn't meant to be taken too seriously. The Pens acquired him from Dallas last season for a fourth and then traded him back to Dallas this season for a fourth. I'm just continuing that trend for the lolz

I don't know about that. Are we talking about the same Phil Kessel that loved playing in Toronto despite only playing in one playoff series?

Moves We Can All Get Behind
I can't get behind this. You're acquiring two UFA's that the team probably can't afford.
The most likely 2019-20 lines after these trades would be something like:
Guentzel - Crosby - Bjugstad
Rust - Malkin - Kessel
Blueger - McCann - Hornqvist
ZAR and a revolving door of ahl players
I'd honestly rather keep Pearson and Simon

A QUESTION FOR PENS FANS
Well, they shouldn't trade their picks just for the sake of it. That's how they ended up with Ryan Reaves. If the right trade is available, then yes. However, if the trade doesn't put them over the top it isn't really worth it.

This trade clears nearly eight million in future cap space. Not like this would happen, but they definitely <em>could</em> resign him.

Realistic Jack Johnson Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Yep, sure is difficult to trade a unwanted player with four years of term after this year. With a 5..525m raise to Guentzal next season, not a flexible cap for Pens.</div></div>
Unless they resign all of their young players to team-friendly deals a cap casualty seems inevitable. If Blueger or Aston-Reese can earn a larger role, Pearson will be the most likely candidate.

Healthy Lines
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Reeds77</b></div><div>All fair points, I would imagine Cullen stays in the lineup especially in the postseason. Blueger needs more ice time to full see what he can do but I like him. Like I mentioned above I could see them scratching Pearson or even trading him for a low pick (5th or 6th round).</div></div>
Honestly, I think the roster may be set. They legitimately have 13 forwards (14 depending on your feelings towards Wilson), 8 defenseman, and 3 goalies that belong in the NHL. That's a tremendous position to be in while dealing with injuries, and a key factor in the success they've had so far this season.

Healthy Lines
Simon will play, the only area of debate regarding healthy scratches is between Cullen and Blueger. I would prefer to see Teddy but I think Sully gives Cullen the nod. I'm also fairly convinced that Kessel will skate on the third line due to Rutherford's previously stated preference to spread 87/71/81 throughout the lineup.

I definitely agree with that. However, replacing him with Mueller doesn't make the defense any tougher. Mirco is a promising player, and he has the size to be physical but he doesn't really utilize it. As a result, he averages nearly half as many hits per game as Johnson. There are other options that would better accomplish your overall goal, maybe even at a lesser price.

I'm confused. If the Penguins need to get tougher why would they trade their most physical player? Say what you want about Johnson, but he has 52 more hits than anyone else on the roster.

You could swap that fourth-rounder out for a first and Carolina probably still says no. Also, if the Penguins had any interest in Schmaltz they could have claimed him on waivers for free like a month ago.

There's definitely going to be a cap casualty. Pearson, Maatta, and Johnson seem like the most likely candidates. Sadly, I don't think it'll be Johnson.

Rust doesn't have as much value to Carolina as he does to Pittsburgh. His stats get a pretty good boost by playing with Crosby. His production would certainly decline with another team.

Yes but Bjugstad is a better possession player, so he's a good fit on paper. Either way, it's an upgrade over Brassard as far as Phil is concerned.

I think Bjugstad will center Pearson and Kessel. This is just an educated guess based on Rutherford's stated preference to play Phil on the third line earlier in the year.
