Thoughts? If we are going to trade Robertson, I'd like to try and pry one of the Ducks young defensemen away from them. Timmins seems like he's going to get dealt, doesn't seem like a Treliving guy. Regardless, my point is that the Leafs have got more than enough cap space after the Nylander deal</div></div>
I'd rather say sign Forsling at say 4 million aaover Hanifin and make an upgrade else in the lineup.

With Marner I feel it would be the same or worse as we would probs get pennies to the dollar or even worse lul.
Either way I feel its basically sign him or lose him for nothing territory come next season. As I just cant see him waive that NMC to leave his home and team he grew up watching
Maybe he surprises us waives and they move on, but I feel were gonna see 12-12.5m incoming question is the term and other things.</div></div>
If he refuses to wave his NMC, let him walk.

Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 3 - Winter Blues
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>I dont see Toronto moving Marner
They give Willy 1-1.5m more than they should have, gave Matthews a 4 year deal, and Marner's where they draw the line going move on.....
Marners the Leafs best PKer and 2-way forward who in a bad year still on pace for 90 points and 30 goals. And last year was in Selke convo with Bergeron (top 3). U keep that
As I mentioned if they were to move either Marner or Willy it was gonna be at the draft last season. Its long passed
Got a feeling 12-12.5m x 8 years be on its way for him. Cause we all know they probs waiting for JT 's money to go then either bring back at a 4-5m deal or find a cheaper replacement. And also Brad learned from his experience with Willy. Guy asks for 12m dont fight it just give
As for defensive upgrades its tricky
Sure we can throw 6m at Pesce, Roy, or Demelo but whats the guarantee they will perform better than what Tanev or Walker could do
Sometimes its the guys people dont look at that end up being the better signing. As in FA almost anything can happen and its basically gambling 99% of the time</div></div>
The bed is now made with Nylander.
Moving on from Marner is to ensure roster balance so the next few years don't go like the last few.
Do you really want to repeat the same mistakes???
Definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over thinking you will get a different result.
I would like some real input on Marner trade, I have doing it my head for 5 months and I'm stuck due with the direction

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aadoyle</b></div><div>So there is a way to keep Bertuzzi and Domi but it means sacrificing a bit on defense in terms of who to target (No Roy, Pesce, or Demelo)
Also factored based on if Bertuzzi decides to take a bit less but goes with term like RNH did
<img class="for_img" src="https://i.ibb.co/N7zvYcD/idea.jpg" alt="idea.jpg"></div></div>
Defense upgrade in the offseason is a must to me, if that means bye Bertuzzi so be it.
We can run with lesser options in that spot potentially like Kubalik.
Roy would be huge and Forsling.
Moving Marner is the path forward, what, who, and how will be tricky.

Lybushkin at 50% ret should cost a 3rd
Hanafin 1st + 3rd and pick the prospect/s (Hirvonen and Abruzzese) should be fine to make up for not having a 2nd.
Like last year a lot of guys who were expensive came with term or were packaged with another good player
Gavrikov + Korpisalo
Orlov + Hathaway
Rn Leafs have their 2024 1st and 3rd and their 2025 3rd thats all that is needed rn. From there it will be prospects and potentially Timmins used
Now there will be guys who are safe but guys like Hirvonen, Grebyonkin, Niemela, etc all could be fair game</div></div>
I don't think this team is an add or two before being pushed over through top.
That's when that type of move is warranted.
At most we should do is cost effective add, anything else seems silly.
Adding a Hanifin or Tanev will not be cheap, and they are pending UFAs... just seems that we are gonna pay high price to only move the needle a bit.

Or, that an organization that has essentially had a complete turnover from the regime that was in place when any of this happened, and financed the investigation themselves, and released those findings publicly knowing how damning they were, is "rotten to the core."</div></div>
You should say that to the victims and see how that flies.
There should be no limit for the Black Hawks to continue to apologize and pay for this, none whatsoever.

When its 6 on 5 or PP he looks good
5 on 5 especially where they had him playing (2nd pair with McCabe) is just no
I think in a third pair role against lesser competition he should do fine with Gio. Now if we can get someone to play with Rielly and Liligren works with McCabe I would like to than shift Brodie to the left to play with him as that might be for the best.
So rn this is the mindset
Rielly-?
McCabe-Liligren
Brodie-Klingberg

As lets be honest do all goals need to come from forwards no
If we look at Toronto's Blue line production reg season last season (not including players who were traded out)
Liligren 6 goals
Reilly 4 goals
Giordano 4 goals
Brodie 2 goals
Timmins 2 goals
Holl 2 goals
McCabe 1 goal
Schenn 1 goal
Now lets compare to a top blue line like Carolina
Burns 18 goals
Skeji 18 goals
Slavin 7 goals
Chatfield 6 goals
Pesce 5 goals
Ghost 3 goals
De-Haan 2 goals
As for Klingberg he had 10 goals.
Would be nice to have some production on the back end and not just from the core 4 or forwards in general. We have enough defensive only guys to pair with him so as long as we use him properly got no worries. 1 year deal and if it works out like Barrie in EDM should have some good firepower to work with.
Now do I think Leafs still need to add one more Dman yes but its not in the purpose of pushing Klingberg out. Basically a main reason I want Bear as with him you can have Brodie-Klingberg become a third pair and it should work nicely
Rielly-Bear
McCabe-Liligren
Brodie-Klingberg</div></div>
I'm hoping we are flipping Klingberg for a D with term at deadline to be honest.
