Wow. That's an interesting take. He gets hurt a lot but healthy he's a solid second line LW.
I agree he's unlikely to get traded because the Penguins are also in win-now and have no replacement on the roster and no FA to replace him.
Lastly, you have 21 players and 80k in space. That's a bad decision that would likely cost you 12 - 15 games due to exhaustion in playing 11F or 5D for weeks due to injuries

Whats next pens fans
Fixing the roster:
1.) Send down: Archibald, Claigula, Smith, the third goalie
2.) Switch Poe and McGinn
3.) Bring up Zhorna for 4th line RW
4.) Scratch the Ruw, Fried and Oconnor
5.) Trade McGinn retaining 1MM in salary OR buy out McGinn.
The Pens then have 23 players and 500k in space

Why?
Why make your defense worse?
Why put Poehling as a scratch and put McGinn on the third line?
Why get 2.5MM in cap space but not add a forward?

All in with the hometown kid
The prices look right to be (as a fan with no horse in this race). Maybe a little heavy on the StL side but not by a ton.
Calgary has plenty of leverage. 31 teams worth of leverage.
He might regress or he might score 50 goals and 120 points. Who knows?
I will say this has my biggest pet peeve. 22 players and no cap space. A recipe for disaster.
Also, Jesse will want more than 2MM. You'd need to give him at least 3.5MM. So it would be him or Barb.

How about Barb for McGinn + 1st?
StL can package a 4th to toss McGinn to the void and use the 1st as a sweetener for Matt T?

I think you'll see his numbers get a lot better when he's on the ice for 20 min per night as opposed to 25

Thoughts from Flames fans
Ok problems:
1.) McGinn needs a sweetener. Add a 4th (minimum)
2.) Why buy out Zucker? You make a cap situation worse and lose a guy who, when healthy, is a good second line LW
3.) Why are you playing Rust on his off wing?
4.) Why is Letang paired with Petterson?
5.) Why is Petry above Letang?
6.) You have 800k in cap space and 22 players. Do you remember the games where the Pens played 5D because they didn't have cap space to bring someone up? Do you want to re-live that?

Not Happening But More Realistic
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Alfie11</b></div><div>Zucker and McGinn have negative value, and Poulin is maximum a middle six prospect, probably a 3LW at best, he’s definitely regressed since his draft. I don’t think this would even work without the two cap dumps, because there’s no blue chip prospect going to the Flames and the two 1sts will likely be late.</div></div>
I disagree about the Zucker analysis. If healthy he's a top 6F.
I do agree that the prospects are both likely middle six and the picks are late. The problem is that Calgary can't win ANY trade. No one is going to give established young, controllable players. The best they'll get is prospects (blue chip or not the hit rate in the NHL is poor) and low 1st round draft picks.
Again, I don't think this is super realistic. Just the best the Pens could do.

I would say 2 1sts and a 2nd would be a start. Zucker would be good but you'd have to throw in at least 1 prospect (maybe 2) and more

Also, why is everyone always right next to the cap? You need room for injuries

Making space for bottom 6 fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mmccRed198913</b></div><div>Gotcha and what are you giving ANA to take on the contracts?</div></div>
In his defense,
Kap has some trade value (3rd line RW who can kill penalties)
Zucker has some value in a bounce back
So you could consider the Zucker sweetener as Kap. That said, why would Anaheim want either player?
Also, why would you sign NN to such a big contract? You're basically replacing Zucker with a new Zucker but one who is on the books for 5 more years.

Kapanen Signed
Pens can't afford Kap at that price. He isn't worth it now anyway. If he wins arbitration (unlikely as it may be) he becomes a UFA. Pens can afford a 2MM / 1yr deal. That's about it.

If this posts twice sorry.
I think Philly and Florida would be interested.
I don't think the Penguins trade a 3rd for Nicky because they would then have to use a 4th to move Brock McGinn. If it was the loss of a 4th and 5th, they'd probably be game.

Great minds think alike. Though I prefer my defense to yours (we flipped the 1/2 and 3/4). Also, it might take more than a 4th for Brock.
