Tempting. I don't know how well Marner would do in Nashville, but it's tempting.

I would argue instead that we have no interest in Marner at the prices being offered, nor do we have interest in him so long as Laine and/or Gaudreau are Blue Jackets. And if he doesn't have interest in us obviously that's a nonstarter as well. So it's <strong>possible</strong> to come up with Marner-to-CBJ proposals that would work, but they're not going to make many Leafs fans happy.

Based on the other trades and on other AGMs by said user... I'm inclined to believe they really are just that crazy.

I wanted it to be real and then I saw all the other trades. These sorts of AGMs are obviously intended to hurt the team they're made for, but their creators never consider the effect it'll have on the other teams traded with. Please, think of the other teams' fans. Don't saddle us with this kind of disappointment. Go get swept with dignity.

Adding youth
I can't see a scenario in which POJ is of any interest to the Jackets, honestly. We've got a ton of blueliners already at that "ready or not, the time is now" stage and adding one more just makes things even more confused. And Texier's been a very useful contributor.
Also, the Preds easily turn that down. Given that the Duchene buyout is getting much nastier next year, cap is only being taken on if a particularly valuable player is coming back.

Not enough for the Preds. Glass's value has tanked, sure, but Fabbro's still very useful.
As for the Jackets trade... Dumais' latest antics have folks worried about him but I'd still prefer to keep him myself if at all possible.

Trade the Pick
You asked for Boone. You already know the answer.
More to the point, you asked for both Boone and Gudbranson, neither of which we're prepared to give up because of the leadership vacuum here. There is pretty much nothing you can pay that makes that tractable for the Jackets; we'd end up in the same situation as y'all w/r/t getting mentors for the kids, only even worse 'cause right now y'all at least still have Tuch and we wouldn't even have that much left.

If we're picking up a center in free agency I'd rather look at Stephenson. I think Lindholm is getting overhyped enough that he'd end up costing a lot more and wouldn't be worth it.
Also, putting Voronkov on the fourth line is a crime against nature given how well he's played.

I frankly think Tkachuk would bring a toughness dimension to the team that it's presently lacking. Three high priced wingers in general isn't great, but at lest with this one there's a diversity of skill. And Ottawa badly needs him to stick around, so skimping on the 4th overall is not going to be an option.
I don't know if I'd want Tkachuk badly enough to make that commitment - I keep waffling back and forth - but if this is what it took it would be acceptable.

New Look Hackets
The first trade is extremely dubious for the Preds as the blueliners coming back don't adequately cover Fabbro's skillset and that dumps a ton of cap on them at the time it's least affordable (the Duchene buyout dead cap is jumping up next year).
The second trade is just embarassing. Why not have the Sens throw in Stutzle while you're at it?

Better on the ice, perhaps. Better in the locker room and with the kids? I severely doubt it. There's a reason Boone's in such high demand; folks like him are shockingly difficult to find and folks don't want to give them up when they have 'em.

With Macklin
There's no point in us trading Laine for anything short of a top line scoring winger package; we're in no cap crunch and he doesn't have crippling term so we can just be paitent and wait for him to potentially bounce back.

Marner to CBJ
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>I wish I could say I was surprised by how little non-Leafs fans are considering Marners value to a team, but I'm really not anymore.
As someone who enjoys following the Blue Jackets, here is what I assume:
- Defense Group is set for the foreseeable future. Lots of young talented defensemen to go with Veterans that are locked in long term. Seems to be a lot of tension between CBJ and Jiricek, potentially making him a valuable trade asset.
- Goaltending isn't an issue by any means.
- Forward Group is fine, just need to wait for the young guys to come into their own.
How does adding a genuine superstar do anything other than help the Jackets? I feel like I'm not asking a ton considering the level of player you'd be getting in return. The Jackets with Marner are a playoff team and a serious threat. To say that the Jackets wouldn't so much as consider this offer is laughable, ESPECIALLY considering that the BPA at your draft pick will be a defenseman. Thus roster would be infinitely better than anything you could manage to put together without adding Marner:
Laine - Fantilli - Marner
Johnson - Jenner - Gaudreau
Voronkov - Sillinger - Marchenko
4th Liner - Kuraly - Olivier
Werenski - Severson
Provorov - Boqvist
Mateychuk - Gudbranson
Merzlikins
Tarasov
I'm assuming Texier gets dealt, doesn't seem like there's a definitive role for him. Not sure what to think of A. Nylander.
Regardless, Marner and a coach who isn't completely braindead transforms CBJ into a playoff team 🤷♂️</div></div>
The simple answer is that you asked for Jiricek and he's not available. The stories you may have heard about him being "disgruntled" or whatever are basocally thirsty pundits looking at the sorts of disappointed comments literally any prospect in the world makes when they get demoted to the AHL and declaring that that means he wants out because something something Columbus.
Also, the defense group is as far from set as it can possibly be. It needs a lot of revision. Merzlikins is legitimately disgruntled. And while overlooking Danforth isn't quite an unpardonable sin (even tho he's been awesome), like so many others y'all nonetheless seem to have complewtely forgotten about Chinakhov's very existence. Simply put, we don't have room for three top-line high-priced wingers on the team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>The Blue Jackets have been being used as clickbait fodder by Canadian sports writers for years now. Boone to Toronto for whatever, 3 OA(Fantilli) to Calgary for Lindholm, KJ+ to Vancouver for Miller, stuff to Montreal for Anderson, 4OA and KJ to Toronto for Marner. Those are just the ones that immediately come to mind. Will Canadian sports fans ever catch on that they're just being pandered to for clicks?</div></div>
Probably not; the ones that haven't already evidently enjoy the pandering.

Marner trade
The CBJ trade is at least somewhat more sane than the absurd Sportsnet one that's been going around, but it's still potentially a no-go for us simply because we already have Laine and Gaudreau as top-line wingers with huge contracts, so that would have to be adequately navigated.
