This team needs actual goal scorers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jaredb7</b></div><div>There’s plenty of room left for those guys next year as I pointed out already. Brock Nelson almost makes 5 mil now and just had a career year as basically the Isles number 1 center. 6 million is going to be the starting point, if you think he’ll sign for less, well just keep dreaming.</div></div>
$12 mil or so left to re-sign Barzal, Pulock, Toews and Aho...assuming Martin goes by the wayside. That’s not enough. Also, I’m not saying Brock won’t get $6 mil, I’m saying he won’t get it from us. Lastly, a 3rd line center should not be paid that much money. We’ll see what happens.

Komarov is not coming out of this lineup. That's not criticism, it's reality from Lou. Hard pass on Hayes, especially at that salary. There is no money left for the following season to extend anyone.

Well, there's no money left to sign anyone else the year after (Barzal, Pulock, Toews, etc) and in no worl ddoes Nelson get more than $5 mil from the Isles. Let another team make that mistake. And there is NO WAY and $6 mil player goes to the 3rd line.

Would they though? They already struggled to sign him once, you have to imagine he'll want more money again. Maybe if they include McQuaid just to defensively fill the spot for this season?

trade with islanders
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TanSor</b></div><div>I'd take it. Not a fan of giving up the 3rd but we're getting another 1st here.
I'd probably take that, too, unless a team offers us a 1st and a prospect or a 2nd and a better prospect.</div></div>
That's the hardest part of all the fan guessing. No one really knows what teams are asking for, who is off limits, etc. JHS is definitely a question mark so it's a risky play there by Minnesota. I personally think he'll be a middle six player eventually. He is skilled and should be able to be a consistent 3rd liner, maybe 2nd.
Isles beat writer Arthur Staple wrote the other day that the current asking price for a Duchene or Stone level rental is currently at 1st round pick, high level prospect and a young roster player. Somehow though the Devils got a 2nd round pick for Boyle. It's all a bidding war too. So for a guy like Staal, I'd say 1st round pick comes off the table as does the roster player. So maybe a 2nd round pick and mid level prospect? That's where this trade offer becomes very interesting. JHS was a roster player filling in nicely for us but got sent back to Bridgeport. If he excels, The Wild extend him for like 3 years at maybe $1 mil per season and get a 2nd round pick for someone they likely wouldn't be bringing back, and although he is playing well, his best days are far behind him.

I'd be willing to still take him if they retained enough salary to bring his cap hit to $4 mil or less. The most they can retain is $3.12 mil per. I was just going with the rumors that seem to be swirling about his agent and Lou being in touch again the last few days. He wants to go to a playoff contending team in the Eastern Conference. Due to the length of his contract it really only leaves the Islanders, Bruins, Canadiens and Blue Jackets as possible spots. Bruins could be the one with Pastranak hurt. I would never count out the Canadiens who are very young and would definitely rejuvenate Kovy. And hey, imagine the Blue Jackets talk to the Kings and say hey Panarin for Kovalchuk and Toffoli? It gives them a goal scorer for now and figure out Kovy later, while also adding depth with Toffoli who is still under a nice cap hit for next season. Should be interesting!

Ladd makes less than Kovalchuk and you'd be able to leave him available for expansion draft to rid the team of him then. If they weren't taking Ladd then I'd say Nelson, Aho, 2nd rd pick and $2 mil retained. Nelson gets flipped for more picks/prospects and Kings are freed of $4 mil on the cap. Put that towards a run at Panarin in July.

Ah, and for the Zaitsev add-ins for this deal. Every single Leaf trade on this site is usually a way for them to dump him because he’s that hated. Thanks, but no thanks on him. Lol

Isles 2019 Cup Champions set in Stone
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgmilazz</b></div><div>Agreed. Look at what players have fetched at the deadline historically. Just because you're a Sens fan (not you, just speaking generally) doesn't mean your two rental players are worth more than the market. A first and a prospect for each is MORE than fair value for these guys. 3 decent prospects with NHL experience and upside plus those picks is a pretty solid trade IMO. I remember expecting a ton for Vanek a few years ago only to acquire a middling prospect and a 2nd round pick.
To add to this, with a bunch of teams dropping out of the race in the East, there will be a bunch of sellers and the market maybe even lower than what I proposed. Time will tell.</div></div>
YYYYYYAAAAAASSSSSS!!!!! THIS!!!! Exactly this!!!! Everything about this comment is right. Pick and a prospect is all you can hope for. Duchene looks like he’s leaving, they’ll get about that. Stone supposedly wants to stay, so the Sens have more leverage but at the same time the re-sign chances of his new team are lower. It’s all a game. Not to mention, the player added usually doesn’t make a drastic impact on the cup run.

My guess is you're not an Isles fan because if you were there is NO CHANCE you're taking Cizikas out of this lineup. I'd almost say the same thing about Martin. Also, looking ahead to next year, way too much money would need to be given out to keep everyone intact. Lastly, there's a very good chance neither of these trades would be accepted.

THIS TEAM IS A SNIPER AWAY
This whole back and forth with Panarin can go on forever. If I'm the Isles, wait and sign him in the offseason. The crop of prospects is supposed to be ridiculous. Don't run the risk of losing Dobson for a guy that may take less money than we offer to go back to Chicago, where he very much liked playing. Also think of it this way, if we sign Panarin and still need to make a big move, now a kid like Dobson can get traded for the other piece. Don't waste assets in any way here.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>I’m going to keep posting this on every one of these “isle” buyer teams. The time to win is not now. Keep your assets. Firsts are a very valuable piece and with GMLL, you guys could very well land a great player in this draft. Don’t deviate from the plan based on the team over achieving.</div></div>
Three or four years is a decently long time. If Lou gives up too much for players he'll ruin the years following this one, so I agree with not being buyers and going balls to the wall. That being said, the Devils would not get a First Round Pick for that deal. That is insane. No one will be calling them about Johansson and Boyle doesn't get that kind of a haul. I do hope they add a depth player like Boyle in order to keep this same intensity in case of injuries.
Also, I always laugh when people have Komarov out of this lineup. It's never happening. He's on the 3rd line until the end of next season when Martin becomes a UFA and Komarov then slots into the 4th line role.

Get Duchene now and make a run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>In the standing they are the 2nd best team in the east. In reality, they’d get smoked against Tampa TML, Pittsburgh, Washington, Boston. This team should be a bottom feeding team but Trotz is an amazing coach, guys are over performing, and two backup goalies are providing you with elite performance. Come playoffs, their “hot streak” will fizzle out. This is not the isles year to contend. Save your future pieces.</div></div>
You could not be more wrong about this team right now and have clearly not been watching them all season. Lehner has been projected to be this good for a while and has had GAA and SV% numbers close to this low before. The goalies are not playing above their heads, the TEAM is playing defense and two-way hockey. This was why Trotz was brought in. Tavares leaving obviously meant goal totals would go down. Trotz reaffirmed everyone's role and position and that has DRASTICALLY brought down the goals against for the team. While yes they could afford to score more, a team playing like this doesn't just all of a sudden start giving up 4 and 5 goals per game leading them to get smoked. Also, there are far fewer penalties called in the playoffs and the game is much more physical. The Islanders are one of the best 5v5 teams in the league and one of the most physical as well. I'm not saying they'll hold on to 1st place the whole time, but they are not going to be a pushover either.
Ranting aside, I wouldn't give Duchene 8x8 at all. I'd offer him 6 years/$7 mil per and if he finds better offer, which he obviously will, let him go where the money is. Up until this season he'd have been lucky to get $6 mil per. Half of a season where he is playing with ZERO pressure or care means nothing to me. I do agree with you about not giving up future prospects for him, picks I'm okay with.

Awesome moves made though and if this is the roster I'm very excited for next season and the future of keeping the main roster intact. Very Well done!

Funny, in the other thread you made it seem like the Blues would have to be offered Wahlstrom, Dobson, Sorokin and 3 1st Round picks to even consider it. LOL. Tarasenko doesn't seem like a guy that can take over a game so the Isles can live without him. If it costs any of these guys, I'm out. Sign Panarin on July 1st and build on RW elsewhere.
