<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>I don't think it's as terrible as you might think. The team has $15.3M in cap space that offseason, and the players from this lineup that you'd have needing contracts after 2022-23 would be:

Barzal: making $7M in 2022-23, probably resigns for $10M AAV (+$3M, $12.3M left)
Wahlstrom: on his ELC at $894K, can bridge for ~$3-4M depending on how he plays next year (take the high projection and +$3.1M, $9.2M left)
Parise: $750K, bottom 6. Either resigns for a similar amount or you bring up one of your guys from Bridgeport to take his spot (no change, $9.2M left)

Carson Soucy: making $2.75M. Maybe re-sign him to 4x$4.5M? I'd budget a number in that ballpark for him or his replacement (+$4.5M, $4.7M left)
Scott Mayfield: the hardest replacement. He's RD3, so maybe you just bite the bullet and get a veteran UFA for cheap (+$1.5M, $3.2M left)

I've got Johnston &amp; Bellows already signed for 2023-24 as your 13th &amp; 14th forwards, and you shouldn't be paying your 7th D more than $1M, whether it's Hutton, Bolduc, Weatherspoon, or whoever.

That leaves about $2.2M under the 2023-24 cap with everyone signed - plenty of room to maybe go bigger on LD2 and bring a guy in for $5-6M if you want, or if Wahlstrom has a huge season you have room to give him the deal he wants. If you don't use it there, then you have some good space for the TDL if you want to upgrade anywhere else as well.</div></div>

You have $5,000 left on the cap and almost no expires that you're not keeping:
Barzal - stay
Wahlstrom - stay
Parise - gone
Soucy - stay
Mayfield - stay
That $15 mil you have is with these guys completely removed from the cap, so Barzal's $10 mil leaves only $5 mil left.

Thread: Balance
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>linehan10</b></div><div>I think that value on the Tampa trade is eschewed because of the offer sheet rumor, bet they could get a 1 from somebody somewhere or at least a better prospect. Sergachev is awesome.

Otherwise, I like the Parise trade but I have doubts about how easy it is to trade that contract because of all the money stuff if he retires. Pretty sure thats what nixed the deal at the deadline, anyway, even though we found it was a bigger package.

The Ottawa trade I don't like. Id rather lose a pick or a prospect than Bailey.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawkisles</b></div><div>If Minnesota agrees to that, sure. It’s definitely creative, but I don’t know if they increase their cap hit like that just to offload half of a bad contract. But half-Parise wouldn’t be THAT risky in my book.

Only reason the Isles should trade Bailey is if they have no choice between Barzal, Pulock and possibly Sergachev. Trade a 1st rounder to dump Boychuk if you have to, it’s not like Thompson will properly develop whoever we draft.

I’d bet Tampa tries their damndest to keep Sergachev, but if they move him, I bet they’d want at least 1 1st for him. So more like Aho, a 1st and a 2nd, which personally, I’d still do. And I bet Sergachev gets at least another million or two in aav.

All of that said, this would be a good team. Undo the Bailey trade and this team is a legit cup contender.</div></div>

Guys, this might be the first time posting on the site and being told I wasn't a complete moron, or something along those lines. Haha. I feel like Sergachev is a reach but it's out there. Scary that I'm sure there are teams hawking us the same way over Barzal right now. A UFA idea for that spot I had was Vatanen, but I couldn't get a feel for what his value would be.

As for Bailey, I know I'm in the minority here but I feel like he's a perfect person to move to open up a roster spot that needs to open. He'll get a good amount of money off the cap, bring in a decent return and allows Wahlstrom to slot right into that 3rd line RW. Even if it's not this trade above, I still think they may have to explore him as a possibility of movement. As it is now, he's slid down to the 3rd line. I don't know, just a thought.
