Completely New Approach BOS WIN CHI Read Description
Per your description, Colorado is the best fit for Kreider. Really like the idea of him with Kadri on that 2nd line there. I don't think you're getting a 1st though b/c your cap situation is going to inhibit leverage you might otherwise have. Joe Sakic is not Jim Benning. That said, it's still a good potential move for you.
Winnipeg, I don't know how long Cheveldumboff is going to keep handing you great players, but might as well try. Ehlers would be a great get, and DeAngelo definitely has value, but if I'm WPG, I do NOT like Namestnikov as the add in. His production per AAV is too low to be seen as a value add. Strome may have more appeal to Winnipeg, as he is at least an upcoming RFA.

The rest of your point is well taken. Great character guy on and off the ice. Hope he is good for you NJ, but uh, not too good.

Yes, he will bring competitive edge and is an absolutely great guy. Love Wayne for his character, period. That said, do not expect production anywhere near a top 6. His past season was not pretty. He didn't work out in the PP specialist role with Nashville either. That last bit is troubling, as you'd like to think that element of his game should still be strong. Maybe he will bounce back there, but 5v5 he should be in your bottom 6.

Good point. Wasn't considering insurance impact at all.

Ok then, GL with that defense. Maybe they also get offer sheeted by someone if they can't sign both big RFAs.

DallasPhilly fans can you answer this please________
The reason the Qualifying Offer was never tendered to Hartman was to avoid the risk of arbitration. Some RFAs have arbitration rights, other (younger) RFAs don't yet, so people overlook this difference. If you go into arb and get a result you don't like, tough cookies, it's binding on you. A team close to the cap could be messed up by that, so they avoided the qualifying offer route and let Hartman go UFA.

Probably a playoff team, but I'm not sure about your backup goalie. Is Montembeault 'just a guy' or are your boys high on him?
Edit: You could save some money from UFA splurging on Sheahan and put it to better use on the backup goalie spot.

Thanks, I understand the LTIR mechanic is more complicated. I was purposefully keeping the explanation as simple as possible to get at the reasons for the deal; why it makes sense for both teams.
MacArthur's salary is higher than his AAV, whereas Schlemko's is lower than his AAV. Melnyk is notoriously cheap. He gets to the cap floor more efficiently, with less real money spent by making the deal, period.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sebybbq</b></div><div>Ottawa can get rid off salary they will have difficulty too reach cap floor</div></div>
You have the effect backwards. MacArthur is LTIR money; it doesn't hit the cap. Schlemko is healthy, so he hits the cap. This gets Ottawa $2.1 closer to the floor, while saving $2.95mil in real money.
Edit: Let me break it down this way so it is super clear:
Schlemko
Cap hit - $2.1
Salary/Bonus Total - $1.8
MacArthur
Cap hit - $0 (LTIR)
Salary/Bonus Total - $4.75
TY for the comment prompting me to lay it out better.

That's an underwhelming return for Tyson Barrie. Kadri is a bonehead and on the black list for the disciplinary department. I don't see why you want him as your 2C.
Also, Bowen Byram is playing in the NHL to start the year. He's a lock.

This hurts. Liked Hartman as a solid depth piece. Has some skill and can hit. Fine on the 3rd line; if he's on your 4th it's because you are stacked at wing. Doesn't disappear for long stretches out there like some other guys. Grats Dallas.
P.S. Niskanen and Braun better be worth it.

That's why it's not a 1st. Maybe you think cap space is the only thing, but Clarkson is owed 3.25 mil in real dollars. If Vegas, as widely rumored, is trying to offload the contract, they will have to pay some compensation for it. They also don't have the cap to re-sign all their RFAs. Someone has to go.

Think of it this way. The Flyers traded Cooper Marody (to Edmonton) and dropped 3 spots in the 1st round (to Arizona) for Bobby Brink. Pretty nice low cost moves for potentially high reward.
Fair deal for both Philly and Nashville IMO.

(TOR/CAR) - Marleau, 2020 conditional 1st round pick, 2020 7th round pick for 2020 6th round pick
At what point do you accept that Kyle Dubas is not a very good GM? The Matthews deal and Nylander saga have really set the stage for RFAs to get aggressive with demands on Toronto. Then we have this cap robbery. Why even take this deal right now? Plenty of time to cultivate other offers. It's not as if Marleau is a worthless contract like Clarkson.
