What a Team
I think my ideal D pairings would be like this:
Option 1 : Buyout Cole during this offseason. I'd rather Zads than an aging Cole.
Girard - EJ
Byram - Makar
Zadorov -Timmins
Graves
Option 2 : Buyout/Trade Cole, while letting Byram play 1 more year in Junior, to keep his ELC intact and mature. Bring Zads back for 3-4 years @ 3.5-3.75M
Girard - EJ
Graves - Makar
Zadorov - Timmins
Barberio (Bring the stache back. He works hard)
Option 3 : Keep Cole, letting his contract end naturally while letting Byram play 1 more year in Junior, to keep his ELC intact and mature.
Girard - EJ
Graves - Makar
Cole / Zadorov - Timmins
Overall, good problem to have right?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>Hall is a nice to have but not at all some game changer for them. Without Mikko and Landy avs are 7th in offence in terms of goals for (5 goals back from 3rd Oilers wiht 2 games in hand) and 4th in goals per game. Really does Hall change the teams offense at all once Mikko and Landy are back too? Might be a marginal upgrade but at that point avs are already one of the top offenses in the league so I dont see the big value added there at the cost of the assets and cap space to get him.
Bura is moving into a 5m contract at this rate....you need to extend Landy, Bura, Grubi, and Makar starting as early as Jan this year. I dont think there is all this magical cap space to add 10.5m-11m in Hall.
Personally I would rather them spend some solid assets to get Zucker (4 years at 5.5m) and he plays unreal defense as well. Hall just is too brain dead defensively to justify</div></div>
Definitely no room for Hall.
Only Bura can be extended after Jan this year though, maybe you mean starting with just him though? Frankie too hopefully he continues being a solid "backup". Zadorov is the only big question mark I have right now. I hope somehow he can be a part of the team still for a while but I don't know how that'll play out.

Dont want to touch Hall with a 10 foot pole with that contract if it impacts giving Landy his deserved raise to be the life long captain of this team</div></div>
Agreed 100%, especially giving Landy was he deserves. At this point, I'm thinking Burakovsky will be able to produce what is required for the Avs long term at for half (or hopefully less) of what this guy wants to give Hall.
It will be nice one the Avs get healthy again and maintain it so a 2nd line of Bura-Kadri-Donskoi can finally gel. I feel like they're the same types of players as the top line, just built a bit differently.

You say no bad contracts yet you have Taylor Hall signed at 10.5M for 7 years... That's the exact definition of a bad contract.

GM Game year 3
Can't say I like this at all, but I guess (as everyone likes to point out) this is AGM. I don't think going big game hunting will solve the Avs' "problems", will only make them worse. Hall doesn't deserve 11M. He's only had 1 82 game season and if this season has taught us anything, is that cap space and depth pieces are needed to stay afloat when injuries happen. With only $360K in cap space, there's no room for injuries.
Here, you've got Burakovsky, being paid over 5M to be on the third line... Too much. The problem with him in Washington was being buried in their depth charts. Look at him now! He can take Hall's spot here, easily.
As much as I hate to admit it, I think the Avs are stuck with EJ and Zadorov will be the odd man out. Either by trade in the offseason or expansion. I think Graves can take over Big Z's role, minus the enforcer aspect but he can be physical at times.
Also don't think your dump trades are very realistic, unless you're playing Chel haha.

You should make another AGM with this extension to show how bad of an idea that is 2 offseasons from now when Landy, Makar and Grubauer need new contracts (raises).

If the Avs get Makar for 8x8, I'd be pumped.
I also don't think Halll would sign for less than 7-8 years.
Landy I can definitely see taking a team-friendly deal, similar to what you've proposed.

I did hear some of his interview there, yup. I would have loved for the Avs to have drafted him. He was too big and strong for an 18 year old, right-handed centerman to pass up. I'm thinking Joe would have picked him over Byram. I'm certainly happy with Bryam as a consolation though! haha

Calder belongs to Makar. Not taking anything away from Dach by any means. Makar has been the most dominant Rookie thus far and is not going to slow down any time soon.

Why is everyone so high on Taylor Hall? No way does he deserve 11M at max term. Only 1 full 82 game season, 1 season breaking 90pts and the rest is not considered elite/star status. Whoever gives him a big pay day will regret it. Certainly will not be Joe.

And as for Grubauer/Georgiev - I'm sure Grubauer has a good chance of sticking around, but I just think Georgiev is going to be a solid starter somewhere in the near future, and is much younger too.
But overall, I'm not a natural Avs fan so I don't know that much about their situation beyond what I've interpreted myself.</div></div>
Most of the Avs current prospects are uncertain and big "what-ifs" which definitely makes it difficult to predict their future. Landeskog definitely will not price himself out. He's their captain, both parties are 100% commited.
Also, don't you think the Rangers will seek to keep Georgiev as their future #1 since Hank is knocking on retirement's door soon?

Yikes. Appreciate you somewhat understanding the Avs situation but there are a few things terribly wrong with this roster.
#1: Where the eff did Landeskog go?
#2: Georgiev will cost more than a 1st
#3: Georgiev is in Grubauer's spot
#4: Travis Barron and Josh Anderson do not belong on an NHL Roster
#5: Graves needs to be where you've got Anderson slotted
#6: Zadorov's current QO must be over 3.2M, therefor you can't sign him to that contract.
#7: Don't think you get rid of Johnson that easily.
#8: Who gets taken in Seattle Expansion Draft?
That's it for now.

I don't disagree with ya. Just saying it's nice to see a few goalies that the Avs have drafted who aren't garbage all while having 2 very capable goalies in the NHL.

I feel bad for price unless MTL does something to get some scoring in front of him, maybe some top potential dmen ( not from the avs)</div></div>
As an Avs fan, you should probably care about their prospects since, as you said, they always trade for a goalie anyway. They finally have some goalies to look forward to man. Of course I'm hoping Grubi has a ton more healthy, solid seasons for the Avs. That would be awesome, especially if Francouz continues to shine.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JeffW</b></div><div><a href="/users/Bigphil" target="_blank">@Bigphil</a> the problem with this trade is you see price and grubauer and you say price is an upgrade... but how much of an upgrade? Does price win you 5-10 more games a year? Does price get hurt in the playoffs? What you really have to ask yourself is, is price worth 7+ mill more for seven years, the full potential of bowen byram, and the 2021 1st rd pick... and coming from a guy who still thinks price is the best goalie in the league, I dont feel that it's worth it</div></div>
Based purely on "who is better, Price or Grubauer?" Of course the answer is Price and I definitely agree Price is the best Goalie in the league, hands down. Poor guy just never got a team in front of him. Good for him for getting paid since he'll never win a cup.
But definitely not worth pursuing since the cost to acquire him will be too great and also his absurd contract. Only way to get him will be if Montreal buys him out and the Avs make him an offer, but if Montreal buys him out, it will likely be because he's old and declined.
The Avs have Annunen showing signs of upside and I have high hopes for Miner as well.

Wilson is actually pretty fast and nimble for his size. He's keeping up with Jost and Compher quite well. 3pts and +5. Those are good stats for a 3rd liner. Currently on pace for 35pts if he plays 82 games (which isn't likely however). You'd prefer Nichushkin, who hasn't scored in 62 NHL games and is much slower and less agile?
