very interesting. I could see the hornqvist for Turris swap helping both teams. Although maybe a bit more salary retention necessary and also remove the pick. I forget how much turris makes but I think it was around 6mil.
Would be funny just the fact he was drafted by Nashville and then scored the cup clinching goal against them. To then be traded back again.

Three Big Deals Opinions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>"Toronto needs to sign Marner so they move Kapanen" huh?
Kapanen will cost at most $3.5M, Schultz makes $5.5M.. that actually lowers the amount that Toronto can sign Marner for. I don't see the logic in that deal and Toronto declines for that reason.</div></div>
that is what I was wondering when I read that one, Schultz makes 5.5m for one season. They have cap problems as it is so unless they move out even more cap than that they cant do the deal even though they do need defensive help.

while they are both pretty good defensively, I don't think they are good enough to justify those type of packages. Would be interested at a slightly lower price.

holy bad take. The rangers would have to add quite a bit to this for it to even be considered fair let alone overpayment.

jarry and Maatta are BOTH worth a second. You shouldn't have to trade a first to get rid of Johnson. Both those trades are freaking terrible.
You need to get a bit more for Phil.

New look Pens with a load of future retooling moves
some of these deals make a ton of sense, other ones are kinda ridiculous, others could use a bit of adjusting.
Im not a person that is that in favor of trading malkin, if they were to trade him it would be this type of deal however. Plus even if they did want to trade him, would he go somewhere else. He has the final decision. I don't think there is much chance he gets traded.
If they trade kessel you got to get a better return than that. Drop the picks going to Arizona and have them add a bit more going back to Pittsburgh.
The deal that you are flipping trouba right over to the rangers is a bit puzzling to me. So its overall basically malkin for Shattenkirk, ehlers, and a late 1st. I guess if you cant keep Trouba longer term it wouldn't be terrible especially since NY would be paying for half of Shattenkirk but.
Just straight up don't like the florida deal. No reason for the penguins to do that. Gudbranson played pretty well after coming over, not gonna trade him for a backup goalie that would be making similar salary.
The Toronto deal is interesting. Could help out both teams, however I don't like the salary retention. 1 for 1 is fine but not at 50% retention.

only one that's somewhat reasonable is the Calgary one, the other two are unbelievably awful. Either hates the pens or is just that bad when it comes to hockey.

Shuffling the Deck-Chairs
Jarry is probably worth a second on his own, while Hornqvist's contract isn't looking great he isn't that big of an anchor to drop that value that much.
Buying out Johnson is not only a dumb move but not gonna happen. If they truly wanted to drop alittle salary they could save a million by just putting him in the minors, they would still have a larger cap hit but not as long lasting as a buyout. The other option is a trade but not as likely. He will probably still be with the team next season, he wasn't that terrible after switching sides to his natural side.
Im not familiar with Mikheyev at all so cant speak to that one.
I like the other moves though.

Between cleanout day and draft day
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pharrow</b></div><div>I have never once stated trading Phil would be easy. But they aren't moving him unless there is a real return and how to quantify that return is the problem.
A bubble team like AZ isn't going to give up two 1st. Even a trade to a team like Nashville, isn't likely. Most of the ACGM trades on here between the two really don't give a great return.
And that's the problem in trading Kessel. You got a PPG player, on a very low contract (thanks again toronto the curse of the hotdog still lives on), and there is a NMC, while he's a aging player.
There is really one 1 "bad" year on that contract. The last year. The rest of the years shouldn't be all to bad. Good players can play well in their early 30s so the next two years are just fine He'll only be 33.
He's got at least two high scoring quality years left. The question is what is that worth and to whom.</div></div>
im not even certain if he will be traded at all, if he does get traded I think there is a few likely destinations with Arizona or Nashville being higher on the list. I agree most of the deals I have seen for Kessel isn't nearly enough coming back. He is a star player who has a few very good seasons left and as you pointed out Toronto is still paying part of his salary which wasn't too outrageous at todays cap hits anyway.
wherever he goes the return should be high, what form it takes(more current players with only a bit of futures, or more futures with a bit less current players) is to be seen.

they are somewhere between decent and good, Kessel on the other is a star player(that they already have control of). The pick would be middle of second round so it isn't significant. You would have to add another first+ more to this deal to make it "fair"

this is a pretty interesting idea. And not horrible either. I would have ZAR in the starting lineup.
I don't know if I would do the Ottawa deal, but I guess you need somebody a bit cheaper than Bjugstad due to the other moves against the cap. So either making cheaper signings or getting retention or having to trade somebody for a slightly cheaper replacement(in this case Bjugstad)
I think the Winnipeg one is pretty good for both teams.
The one with the biggest risk/reward however seems to be the Calgary one. If those two click with Malkin(like when Neal was with Pittsburgh before) that could be an absolute killer second line. So even though you are giving up a few very good players it would be worth it. However Neal had a very poor year, players have down years but if it was not a fluke that is a huge negative to take on. So its very risky but could be fantastic.

Bless this Mess
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Boush</b></div><div>The Caps gave the Avs their new starting goaltender and Orpik for a 2nd round pick, and Orpik was immediately bought out. General wisdom had Grubi going for a 1st - so Orpik depressed the value of the other piece in the trade and still ended up being bought out immediately because he was unwanted (or more likely there was collusion in getting him back to the Caps on a cheaper deal without the Caps having to be the ones buying him out).</div></div>
I find it tough to believe there wasn't any type of collusion going on, idk how the league allowed it. But yeah Orpik brought down the value of the return somewhat(but not a ton), in exchange the caps saved I think it was 4million of cap space. That is more than Johnsons aav. So in theory it would be even easier to get rid of Johnson that the orpik trade since it is less money for the other team to take on.

Just Spitballin Trade with PIT amp Minor Draft Pick Trades
Id definitely consider it. Bjugstad for Faksa is at the very least a more favorable contract which the penguins need.
I do not know much about Dickinson tbh, but Addison is one of the few very good pens prospects. Depending on what Dickinson brings to the table, plus adding a decent draft pick, that would be doable as well.
Overall Id say 4 out of 5 stars.

while I might not say a lot, he is definitely worth clearly more than Jarry. I would put Jarry at like a second round pick. He will get traded at some point most likely. Guentzel is better than Tkachuk imo but I still don't think the flames would be willing to swap one for one. And I know the penguins would not either. Both are virtually untouchable on their current teams.
