Duclair is going to be a Flame
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tm0000</b></div><div>A 2nd for one year of discounted Mangiapane seems fair. I'd probably do that trade. He'll likely never score 30+ again, but I could see him getting 25 or so as the third wheel on a line with Horvat & Barzal</div></div>
I think he's going to be great for his next team. That said, the writing is on the wall, he's a guy that could definitely use a change of scenery, and we could use a winger spot open on the Backlund line for a younger forward. Mangiapane brings a lot of good things that coaches love. He often wins puck battles in the corners, he goes towards the net, he usually brings the puck up the ice while playing an up-tempo defensively sound game, and he can score.
Unfortunately, he just seemed less engaged last year. He didn't go to the tough areas as much as in previous years, and he wasn't as annoying to play against, or as engaged after the whistles. I'm pretty sure he's going to be clutch in his contract year.

That's fair. I just think that the Flames will be looking for a Hanifin replacement in the off-season. That could come either in free-agency by potentially overpaying for a partner for Andersson, or by leveraging some of the assets we got along with Sharangovich/Kuzmenko for a younger D-men.
PS: York is going to be great for you guys, I've been a fan for the last couple of years. I can't wait for PHI to start making some noise in the playoffs again.

Francis was saying recently that Duclair is going to be a Flame in the off-season. It could just be his speculation based on what Conroy was saying on the garbage bag day presser.

I think it would cost us around 2 x 3rds to move up. It's very situational, but I'm sure the Flames would be open to it.

I'd be pretty happy if we got this type of package back for Markstrom. Especially if we didn't have to retain.

I think it can just as easily be Levshunov, or Dickinson maybe if he falls to #4. I have a harder time seeing one prospect being head and shoulders above the rest.

I think that's too much to move up 5 spots. Which player at #4 is worth that in your opinion? He would need to be quite a bit better than the next 5 guys on the list.

He's very good at what he does. He's also signed to a steal of a contract. That's just my personal opinion based on watching him play.

I think Sean Durzi, and Cam York fit what you're looking for. M. Anderson from LAK would be an amazing add for that pick(you'd probably need to add though). Then you have Byram, and Moeser.
That's everyone I could think of.

Works for the Flames. As long as the scouting staff is much higher on one prospect than the rest of the group.

I really feel for AVS fans on this one. Val had such an amazing year. He also seems like a decent guy, but he obviously has a problem. Hopefully he figures things out, so that he has a good life after hockey as well.
I think Nate will straighten him out in the offseason.

I don't see a trade any time soon. The Flames also tend to avoid guys with questionable characters. I doubt they would have an appetite for anymore drama after Dube, Ruzicka, and Ronni recently. I would love that trade, but we can't have nice things.
I think EDM, PHI, and CAR would take a chance on the guy.

McNabb or a D like him is definitely a need for CGY. The value is more than fair for the Flames. You're probably even a 2nd short. That said, I doubt he waives his NTC to come here.
I also doubt that the Flames would want to spend assets on a stopgap player(unless they could flip him) rather than addressing it by overpaying in free agency. Tanev, Brodie, Martinez, DeMelo, Roy, Dillon all could be options for the Flames if they agree to 3 years or less, at a higher caphit.
PS: some of these UFA signings are ridiculously low. Roy probably gets around $5M x 4. I could see Marchessault getting $7M x 5-7 (the Kadri contract).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>I don't agree on Lily. We have multiple prospects who will be as good or better possibly even next year. And they aren't RFAs looking for a raise, they cost half of what the minimum Lily will cost is. A year ago I would have taken a chance on him but not now. Not after all the D prospects we brought in with trades and him being RFA instead of having a year left.
A guy like Arvidsson or Duclair would be a big mistake unless it's on a cheap short term contract. Very cheap and very short.</div></div>
I think Arvidsson is going to be great for the next 3 years, for whichever team signs him. I've been a big fan for a while.
As for Liljegren, he has taken a lot of good steps. I think Huska could potentially get more out of him, and Mangiapane has one foot out the door already.

Both Vladar's and Kulak's value seem a bit off.
Neither is worth a 2nd IMO. I'm not even sure if either would get claimed on waivers if I'm being honest.
So obviously I take it and run if I'm CGY.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoxNix</b></div><div>That'd be an egregious overpay for Marner. You wouldn't get Necas alone for him.
Calgary doesn't need another guy to compete for the 6th / 7th D spot next year. Especially not an arbitration eligible RFA in need of a new contract with a 1.5 mil QO.</div></div>
I don't think it's a bad trade for CGY because I see Liljegren as a 4/5 already, and not a 6/7. I think he has a decent chance of playing well in CGY's top4 in the next couple of years.
Moreover we get another $4M in cap space. You can bring in a guy like Arvidsson, or Duclair; or overpay for Duchene/Kane/Marchessault on a 3 year contract.

Scenario
The fact that you think the Flames have no leverage is ridiculous.
ARI didn't have any leverage with Chychrun after he asked for a trade. They got the 11th overall + 2 x 2nds as a result. One of which was a conditional 1st. That's Andersson's comparable.
Weegar just finished a career year and a 20G campaign. He is on a value contract for the next 7 years. He also managed to prop up all his D partners. Including guys like Miromanov, or Zadorov at the start of the year. I guess no one is going to offer anything for that bum.
Leave Johnson + 2 x 1sts + 2nd.

I think that the first 2 trades heavily favor the Flames. As other's he mentioned Markstrom(50%) + 1st 24'(VAN) for 1st 24'(NJD) is more realistic in my eyes.
Mangiapane with retention is probably worth around a 2nd.
I would rather avoid taking on Copp for 3 years for a 2nd. I could see a similar move on the blueline.

I mostly agree, but what's the rush to trade him? Worst case scenario we get a 3rd at the deadline with 50% retention.
Why would we do WPG a favor by retaining salary for the entire year, and taking on Schmidt only for a 2nd? Schmidt would likely be taking minutes away from a younger guy at the blueline instead. Either from Miromanov, Kylington, Pachal, Solovyov, you name it.

Markstrom to DET
If that's the best deal the Flames could get for Markstrom, then I would be fine with it. IMO he's a bargain at 3M even though he's 34 years old.
I break it down as a 1st for Markstrom, and the picks are there for the cap dumps.
I don't think it's worth it to trade Markstrom with retention for anything less than a mid 1st.
