Prospect Camp so Far - Predictions
Or maybe Kero with Gus? We have great depth at center in our system, probably have more use for a checking C like Moose, especially after trading Danault. Really like Kero but I see too many road blocks for him to earn a spot here, might as well give him the opportunity elsewhere

Campbell and Ladd
Yeah, I love Kruger and he is a valuable player but his services aren't worth 3+ million, at least not right now with the cap situation we're in. These two would fill our two biggest needs, with Kruger's PK role being distributed among a few of the 4th liners. Getting Campbell to play for 2 million would be the tough part, but if so, give Ladd his 4 and we have a great chance to win.

2016-2017 No Shaw
What's not to like about the Campbell move? Still one of the best puck moving defenseman in the league and has expressed his desire to play here. Comes in for 1 year at a discount, serves as a bridge until Pokka is fully ready and plays as a much more reliable partner for Seabs than TVR or Gus were. Kempny will be solid but I don't feel great about putting him in a second pairing right off the bat. Campbell's one year deal helps Kempnys development, too. I forgot to include the Shaw trade, simply because it didn’t change this team. We can’t take on any additional salary regardless so it’s going to have to be for picks. Not opposed to signing a proven bottom 6 winger that could score a little bit more than a Baun/Motte/Desjardins would. Either way, a Shaw deal does not look likely if we value Panarin's future.

Blackhawks 16-17 (w/ Geno and Shaw)
Panarins bonuses have recently been added by cap friendly. They are included in the total overage number for the 16-17 season of 3.07 million. So you have more cap room here

Shut Up Steve Zipay
It sure does seem completely unrealistic. But it's hard not to fool around with the lineup to see if it's even possible. I think you're right that it would have to be a package built around Seabrook. But as that current deal sits, I can't say I would even do that from the Hawks standpoint.

Year 1
I do like that idea. Just depends if Schmaltz can make that move, he seems to be a natural center man because of his set up ability. But I definitely agree that Kruger has more offensive ability than people think, putting Hossa and an athletic winger with him would be interesting to see what he could do. I would still prefer that winger be Motte over Schmaltz bc Motte is a natural wing and I would like to see what those two can do in their natural positions early on. If one seems to excel on the wing, I could see them playing up top with Johnny in some time. Because both Panik and Shaw have been successful as third liners

If the cap stays flat
Fortunately Scuderi retained salary will come off the books, plus there wont be a near 3 million bonus to pay next year (hopefully), and if Shaw is not re-signed, it appears there will be the money for Panarin, especially if we get a cap increase either this year or next (both would be wishful thinking)

Realistic Hawks
Bonuses not accounted for, and I love the idea of Ladd for a hometown discount but that's too low. He'll get overpaid elsewhere

True. Might as well bury him and call him up if there's an injury. Probably better than calling up someone who isn't ready

Worst case scenario
Thanks for pointing this out. End of the day, the Bickell trade will need to happen and it will likely be even more lopsided than the Dallas trade last off-season. Everyone knows we have to get his salary off the books, just like we needed with Sharp, therefore leverage is non-existent. Curious to see who it is going to cost us

Also, if the cap goes up slightly, lets say to 72.5, opposed to the additional 5% that would cap it around 74.5, we will have a little more wiggle room to fill out the last roster spot

I know this. If there was an easy solution, I would have tried it. I left it because the hope is for a Bickell trade or a Scuderi retirement to put us back under. Otherwise, as I said, something will need to be done.

International/Youth Movement
From the Hawks standpoint, I still trust a proven veteran like Greening over Hartman to produce at the NHL level. Greening registered 15 points in 31 games and could give the Hawks bottom 6 a much needed scoring threat. I love the idea that Hartman and other young guys will finally be ready to provide the depth we need, and didn't have in 2016. However, not convinced they're all ready for everyday roles.
We could possibly try a Svedberg swap instead of Gus, however they all know what we do. Gus shows much more potential, or at least did in his puck movement game. Hope to keep him too, especially as a bridge until Pokka is fully ready. Maybe the hope is that McNeill gets that trade done instead, as you mentioned.
rgtai: The Toronto pick that comes back may not be as high as a 2nd, but I would think there would need to be a decent pick to compensate the age difference between Shaw and Greening (24 and 30). Shaw has his best years ahead of him

Next Man Up
I agree, Bickell buyout is highly inconvenient but if he hasn't been traded at this point, I don't see it happening. No body will take that contract, even if a prospect is thrown in to sweeten the deal. Good point about Shaw, forgot that he will get the Brandon Saad treatment if we don't sign him. I like Yak on a trial basis so we can see what the situation is after the season, rather than lock up Shaw instead and have very little money to bring back Panarin, Teuvo, Pokka. Tough to give up Vinnie in the Yak deal but they're going to need a proven top AHL forward to swing that deal... It's all just food for thought

Win Now
Kruger was paired with Ladd and Hossa in the playoffs this year multiple times, and proved to shutdown scoring lines when they were on the ice. Probably right about Ladd, but I do think he would come back for somewhere between 3 and 3.5 million
