Big trade with the Hawks
You're probably throwing Pionk in there to help the Jets' cap hit. Hawks don't need or want him though. They can bring a prospect up to replace McCabe and if they want a veteran LD next year they can sign someone on the cheap. So it's basically Khaira for Appleton, McCabe for the 1st, Toews for the 3rd. The framework is there but the Pionk part has to be worked out IMO. Exclude him and throw in a prospect?

You're very close on that Murphy trade. Would like to see Philly's 2nd round pick instead.

I think Chicago accepts that with maybe a different prospect than Langenbrunner thrown in.

Doubt if the Hawks use two salary retention spots in one trade considering they may move Toews/Kane/Domi with retention also. I do like the 1st round pick in return for McCabe.

Chicago has the cap space and Edmonton doesn't. Cap space is a valuable commodity and the idea is to "weaponize it" to obtain pieces to make the team better in the long term. I would take Puljujarvi in a trade but EDM has to send along a much better pick than the 2023 5th, or another young player (forward preferably).

Next Year
Hawks are loaded with LD prospects, but are a bit short on RD prospects. Mitchell, to me, will be servicable but won't doesn't move the needle much, Regula is so so and Crevier a work in progress. So how about the Leafs work Niemela in the package somehow?

On that Chicago trade. ..2023 pick upgrades to a 1st if the Leafs win the Cup this season and the 2024 pick upgrades to a 1st if Toronto repeats next season?

Go for it v32
If Boston wants to trade their 1st, I think they can get better use of it by adding a decent player at the deadline. With that said Hawks may accept the trade. Smith can walk at the end of the year. Reilly could be buried in the minors next year as to not block a prospect's spot on the big club, or if McCabe is traded, can become a fill in for the Hawks.

NYR 2023 Cup Run
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Sorry, but no no no. Not interesting in the least bit. Rydahl is a 28 year old the NYR's were hoping could come over from the SHL and be a depth piece but is struggling in the AHL and will probably return to sweden as soon as the season ends. Hajek is a reclamation project with little to no value who plays a position we don't need in the least bit. Also, the pick swap is essentially trading up 10-15 picks from the 4th round into the 3rd round, which is useless. This trade is awful for CHI.</div></div>
Thanks for the response. I looked at Rydahl's bio and stats and must have missed he is 28. Thought he may have some potential, but thanks for setting me right.

NYR 2023 Cup Run
Interesting Domi trade proposal. The Chicago early 2023 4th and the Colorado 2023 mid to late 3rd are basically a wash since 3rd and 4th rounders are basically lottery picks and long shots to play in the NHL. So it comes down to Domi for 2 younger players - defenseman Hajek and forward prospect Rydahl. Hawks really don't need any more youthful LD. Send along another forward instead of Hajek and Davidson might accept if he likes them. TBH, he'll probably just prefer a 2023 2nd round pick, Ottawa's preferably, instead of the prospects.

Chicago has a couple of decent college goalies that may sign this summer or next. They really need some forward prospects.

If Montreal wants Lafreniere that badly, okay with me. As far as the Chicago return, they'll take a good forward prospect - Cuylle - in place of the good goalie and decent defenseman prospects.

The Chicago is deal is close. Probably wouldn't want Timmins in the deal. Maybe another F prospect thrown in addition to Abruzzese, but something still seems off to me. Maybe change the 2024 4th to 2023 3rd.

Chicago accepts, but Davidson may try to negotiate that 2nd becoming a 1st if the Wild win the Cup and Toews plays so many playoff games and with a certain average TOI. (Which means your O'Reilly trade falls through.)

Big off season signings I mean they could sign him
If Chicago finds trading partners for Murphy and McCabe I'd do that. Barrie can play RD next season then possibly be flipped at the TDL. Kulak can be a placeholder LD until some prospects are ready then can be traded, buried or bought out.

Most of those deals favor the Hawks, but I like you're thinking. I would trade the same players and also get a couple of picks by acquiring cap dumps.

Hawks will get back to you 5 minutes before the deadline to see if they get a better offer. Or maybe they just won't call back and keep Toews.
