I wondering if maybe a team like Vegas who does not have a full roster in the AHL, might want to take some low end Leafs, high end Marlies like Leivo, Rychel, Valiev for one of Vegas many 6th Dmen, like Miller.</div></div>
I agree, Miller would also be a good target for the leafs, but since Leivo and Rychel need to clear waivers I dont think vegas would consider them for their ahl team.

Florida might want to play at least one of the players they get in return for Petrovic. As the Leaves are initiating and meeting none of Florida's outstanding needs, the Panthers will also only do a trade if there is clear upside for them</div></div>
Of course, I should have addressed all of Florida's defeciencies and offered up Anderson, Rielly, JVR, and Nylander instead. Not sure what kind of return you would be expecting but looking at Florida's depth Marincin, Fehr, and Rychel are all roster players IMO.

JVR, Bozak out. Duchene In.
Is Duchene being overvalued? Comparing HERO charts he is only a slight upgrade at center to Bozak and would be a downgrade to JVR if played on the wing. However, I think the extra year on his contract and his faster skating is a better fit for the leafs than either JVR or Bozak.

True it could work out but there are a couple reasons that are blocking such a move to be made:
1) Babs loves his left-shot on the left-side and right-shot on the right-side.
2) It would be a very hard adjustment to make during the season especially with all of their recent success.
3) It really all depends if Nylander could play that side. It's a lot easier said than done. Some players can play all/both sides but some just can't adjust to the backhand side.</div></div>
Fair point, it might also depend on management's long term plan for center. Does Nylander go back to C when Bozaks contract is up? Matthews-Nylander-Kadri down the middle in 2 years might work out well provided 1) players like Grundstrom and Kapanen develop into NHL wingers and 2) the two years as a full time winger doesnt damage his potential development.

Even worse is that Faulk is currently the only defensemen on the roster that qualifies to be exposed in the expansion draft. Dahlbeck knows this and is holding out for a bigger money extension. Might be a nice gesture to also send a dman back that carolina can expose, Marincin or Marchenko?

Teams are allowed to cut "deals" with vegas. I believe the picks are part of a "deal" for taking Fehr, and not one of the unprotected youngsters.

Ok this might be the most even trade out here.
With the recent reports of the King's and Leaf's scouting each other I am surprised there are not more trade proposals between the two teams on here. Regarding this trade, I think the Kings are looking for top 6 forward help not defence. Maybe JVR for Kempe, Cernak and a 1st plus a cap dump?

It is a bad idea to trade Marincin, without bringing back a suitable candidate to expose at expansion. Leafs need to expose 1 defenseman (under contract) who has met specific games played criteria over the past two seasons. Unfortunately, the only 4 that qualify are Gardiner, Rielly, Vatanen, and Harmonic. I think Vegas chooses one of those over Komarov or Fehr.

If Marincin is traded away, a defensemen with contract that can be exposed in the expansion draft needs to come back. Otherwise, either Rielly, Gardiner or Carrick MUST be exposed to Vegas.

Fixing the 2010-2015 drafts
Gostisbehere and Parayko were still on the board when the leafs drafted Matt Finn in 2012. Missing in the Tyler Biggs fiasco is that the leafs traded down with Anaheim to pick him. ANA picked Rackell and Gibson with the 2 picks the leafs traded for Biggs. Also in 2011, Palat and Kucherov were still available when the leafs drafted Stuart Percy and Josh Leivo.

Shooting Ideas
The Stone trade makes no sense, per the expansion draft rules Leafs must expose atleast one under contract defenseman who played 40 games in the 16/17 season. Stone is UFA (not sure why you are protecting him), Hunwick and Polack are UFAs and Corrado is a RFA who will not see 40 games this year anyways. Leafs have set up Marincin perfectly on a 2 year contract so he can be exposed, he is the guy .... and you want to trade him away along with a 3rd for a guy you can just sign next year as a UFA? Vegas will cherry pick either Rielly, Gardiner, or Carrick.

Leafs finally get defensive (ly better)
I have mostly seen Rielly playing the right side when paired with a left hand D. Marincin and Hunwick are horrible enough when playing on their natural side, probably why Rielly gets bumped to his off side the majority of the time. There are some roster websites that show Hunwick as a right D on the depth chart but thats about it. The games I have seen, this year and last, Rielly is on the right when paired with a left hander.

This proposal might favour the leafs slightly but it is a decent proposal. Players that are "difficult" to deal with, whether it be contractually or off-ice, often get traded for less value. Anaheim is getting JVR, Kapanen (a former first round pick), 2 second rounders, dumps over 2 million in stoners salary this year (full salary next year) and all they give up is a non-roster player.</i></div></div>]
That "non-roster" player is deserving of what he is asking for based on some recent deals and is a star.</i></div></div>
I just read that he is asking for EKBLAD money (8 years at 7.5M), while Anaheim is only offering SETH JONES money (6 years at 5.4M). Just curious, does anyone think he is worth EKBLAD money?

Let's not start with these silly Wedgwood for Vezina rumours. If he was NHL good, don't you think the NJD would have kept him? If he was NHL good, don't you think another NHL team would have picked up on waivers? By your logic, why not make Wedgwood the # 1, Leafs waive Andersen (he gets claimed) and the Leafs save 4m in cap.</i></div></div>
Vezina now eh? Thats cool palhal, I believe I suggested that it might be worth carrying 3 goalies for a while as the leafs goaltending is their biggest question mark. Wedgewood would be third in depth behind Anderson and Enroth and he is easily better than the rest of the leafs goalie prospects. Devils have Schnieder (better than Anderson), Kincaid (same as Enroth) and Blackwood (potentially better than all of them) in the system. Losing Wedgewood was a risk but they chose to keep Kincaid. Also helped that Condon was waived at the same time. I would think that if Condon wasnt waived, Wedgewood would be a penguin now. Anyways, leafs had a chance to add depth for free at their weakest organizational position and they chose instead to pick up another 5'9" forward that used to play for the London Knights.
