Do you really think Sergachev would want to go back to the team that traded him? Also, that offersheet would cost you 4 firsts

They don't need to. Kucherov, Point, Stamkos, Cirelli, Palat, Coleman are the top 6. Even way, losing our #3 D is a much bigger deal than filling a spot in the middle 6 so Tampa still declines.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nikolay_Zherdev</b></div><div>I was thinking cheap forwards for them especially if they have to move some pieces to get under the cap</div></div>
Even if we move pieces there are plenty of options in our own system to fill in for them like Volkov, Verhaeghe, Stephens, Barre-Boulet, and Joseph. Moving Sergachev leaves a big hole at D and a return of someone who would likely play on our 3rd line (Buch), an AHLer with potential (Andersson), a 3rd, and a 7th doesn't make any sense for Tampa.

Tampa declines, I don't think they'd move Serg in a deal with forwards as the main return. The Lightning have their top 9 pretty much set (even when trading Killorn + someone). So while Buchnevich is a solid piece, he doesn't move the needle much for Tampa as they don't really have any need for him.

Point
Tampa says no and I don't see a fit here.
- One of the biggest knocks against the bolts is their size at F and Gaudreau does nothing to improve that.
- Point is strong two-way C with two years left until RFA
- Gaudreau is a one-dimensional winger who is two years away from UFA.

So your idea is to trade an AHL defenseman (with a 4.625 cap hit) and 4th for a top pairing dman with retention?
Tampa rejects quickly
edit: removing the retention doesn't change Tampa rejecting the offer

Tampa says no without a second thought.
- Johnson is worth way more than Neal.
- I don't see Tampa moving Sergachev for another LHD and a downgrade on forward.

Its a ghost town tonight
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>How is a team this good on paper, playing so badly?? The only significant loss in the offseason was Miller and Stralman (who was already regressing last year) and they added a legit top 4 D in Shattenkirk. This team should be top of the league again. It’s gotta be a mental thing because this team has so much skill throughout the lineup</div></div>
We're changing our system and there's a decent amount of growing pains. Cooper is adapting our teams structure in an attempt to be a better "playoff team".
Last year we played a run and gun style. Simply put we traded high-danger scoring chances with the other team because our offense and goalie were better than just about every other team in the league. We forced the teams we played into playing high-event hockey which we were the best in the league at. Obviously, this system didn't work too well in the playoffs when we came against a team that refused to change their style.
This year we've reverted back to a system closer to what we played when we made the cup final in 2015. Defense first, dump and chase, cycles, etc. rather than odd man rushes. What made our 2015 team successful is just about every player on our team was competent in their own end and could/would cover for dmen when they pinched. This is why that whole Drouin situation happened with getting sent down. and the trade demand It's a pretty big step away from last year so we're seeing some instances of passes to no one because that's where they would have been last year. Now not all the shortcomings are because of this, but I think it's a pretty big contributor. We've actually played really well the past 5+ games, just the record doesn't show it.
That being said, I'm sure there is more to it then that and I acknowledge it. A lot of fans will point out other flaws or just say stuff like "Fire coop" or "too many shrimps" or stuff like that, but hey I'm no expert or anything, I'm just a guy who watches hockey.
Side note: my unfounded and unrealistic theory is that the Bolts are taking it easy so they can be the team that turns it on down the stretch and carry that momentum into the playoffs. Last year they all but clinched a playoff birth in February, which is a long time without meaningful hockey.
Edit: Another big component is that Vasilevskiy has not been his usual self, he does not look like a Vezina winner.

You do realize paying ~50 point wingers 5-5.5 million isn't "WAY over market value", right? Surely you can't be that disconnected.
Also, Yzerman didn't sign Gourde dude.

Are we just ignoring the contracts to Hedman, Stamkos, and Kucherov? And the fact that both Johnson and Palat are below market value? And the FA deal to Stralman?

Bye Bye
Bad trade for Florida.
Here is a breakdown I think you're going for:
1 - Matheson for Romanov
2 - Huberdeau for Tatar + 1st
3 - Barkov for Drouin + Suzuki
1 - not bad if this is what you're going for, but I don't see Florida moving a top 4 defense man for a prospect right now, they need their top 4 guys
2 - Tatar is older, more expensive, and worse. A mid first doesn't come close to bridging that gap.
3 - Barkov is a top end 1C with Selke caliber play. Drouin is an offensive winger who can't match Barkov's production. Suzuki looks solid, but he doesn't look like he'll reach Barkov's level. Not happening.
And value aside, Huberdeau and Barkov are the faces of the Panthers, both wear letters, and are on fantastic contracts with term. Good luck getting one of them let alone both.
