Lose Myers in Expansion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Seems like every "homer" expects Seattle to take a bad contract from their team. Not happening.</div></div>
They're either getting a bad contract or a replacement level player. They can either have Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle, Motte, MacEwen, Myers, a clearly declining Holtby, or a completely unproven prospect who hasn't been good enough to deserve protection and has taken so long to develop that they're not exempt from the expansion draft. And if any one of those 5 forwards is decent we can still protect them. This <em>does</em> rely on Benning not signing some Dman as expansion exposure fodder in order to protect Myers though, which would be kinda classic Benning.

Lose Myers in Expansion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SDR</b></div><div>Even with GMJB in charge, none of those Mid-low tier RFAs are getting 2-3mil cap hit deals. Seriously, why are Juolevi and Rafferty getting 2mil when neither has played more than 10mins at the NHL level yet, and in a flat cap? You must be expecting Gaudette to have a breakout year in 2021 to be getting a 3mil contract.
Wtf is Roussel on the 2nd line? 🤦🏻♂️</div></div>
This is for 2021-2022, so presumably they will have played NHL minutes, and ideally done well enough in them to warrant 2x2. Honestly the bigger assumption here is that both Juolevi and Rathbone will be able to step up and replace 2/3LD. If they don't do well enough, great, we save some money and can use some of the space to pay off performance bonuses that Petey/Hughes will have undoubtedly earned, and perhaps Rathbone/Juolevi/Pod/Hog if we're lucky. Same applies to Gaudette - I'd rather be projecting overpayments than unrealistic underpayments.
Roussel on the 2nd line is a placeholder for Hog's development, Roussel did pretty well with Bo two years ago before he got injured. I'd really rather not sign an overpriced UFA (and we don't really have the room for it) for probably too much term and end up blocking Hog's prime minutes in the roster. I suppose another option is somehow getting a young, good value LW for longer term to replace Miller the year after, but the cap navigation gets trickier and it's not like young AND good players are easy to come by.

Depends if they think Myers is a legit top 4 D or not. Lind/MacEwen/Motte are horrible pickups for expansion, Leivo/whatever UFA winger isn't going to get anymore than a 1x1 deal (and thus not eligible for expansion), and Cernak/Pearson/whatever RD will be protected if we get them. The best Seattle is going to get from us is Holtby (aging goalie, 1 year contract may be seen as a positive or a negative depending on his play this year), Myers ("big minutes top 4 D" for 3 years would be seen as some GMs as a good thing, overblown as his rep may be among the analytics community), or one of our 4th liners/B- prospects.

I also think he will prove his doubters wrong. Hes taken big strides lately in his development being healthy. I think he is going to be a solid bottom 4 all around puck possesion type dman. Good playmaker and puck mover with fearless shot blocking like Tanev.</div></div>
Oh for sure, it just sounded like you were saying Dubas might be targeting him - I wouldn't be actively trying to sell either. I'm hoping you're right with his development, I've read that his decision making and defensive play still seem suspect at times, though apparently he makes a great first pass.

Why would the leafs add in a downgrade from Barrie to Stecher? Sure, neither team particularly wants Barrie's offensive D skillset, but he still has way more value.

You're not getting Juolevi for Simmonds +. And there's no way we're trading one of our D for a 4th line winger.

If the cost to go from Stecher to Barrie is just Bachman I'd expect Benning to jump on this - not sure if I like it since Stech has better chemistry with our team and defense, but tripling the production of a top 4 D is a pretty big deal.

Hell no. Canucks need defensive D, not another middle sixer and yet another offensive D when we already have Myers. Juolevi is worth much more than Kapanen + a little more value to make the Barrie/Stecher+3rd work

Barrie Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gui</b></div><div>Edler is on his last legs and is likely done next season or season after so bring in Barrie at this price would be a great replacement. But I have issues with Sutter being added to the trade; while often injured and not providing huge numbers he is very good as an third line center in a shut down role. This is required for the play-off hockey and doesn't he win more then 50% in the face offs dot? This is also an underrated aspect to any players game. As it helps in the defensive zone faces offs trying to maintain a lead and clutch in offensive zone when in a close game; both situation where possession is greatly required.</div></div>
We already have Horvat, Miller, and Beagle doing great at faceoffs, we need to dump Sutter sooner or later to free up space, and this could be the time to do it for all the reasons you stated - hopefully some playoff team will overvalue him and pay some futures for him.

Seems cheap to me TBH, I'd do this in an instant. Goldy is nothing for us, and a 3rd and a 4th probably won't be enough to convince them to take 3 years of $6M. I think it'll cost us a 1st or 2nd in the end to get rid of Eriksson.

Why would Vancouver want anything to do with Foligno, much less give up one of our top D prospects for him? Looks like 3rd/4th liner stats, and we have plenty of those already.

I wonder if we could get a 1st for Juolevi - I'm not sure if we want any of Toronto's players since they're I think we wouldn't be able to afford any of the good ones, but we could restock a bit - I'm not too confident in Juolevi and wouldn't mind a mulligan on our 1st rounder. Not sure if Toronto is going to be able to make it deep in future years with so little money available for their defense, we might get a lottery pick out of it too if Dubas doesn't protect.

PreTDL Canucks for 2021
I think this is a pretty reasonable take on things if we stand pat and try to resign Toffoli. Not sure why we're paying Fanta $2m though, I think we could get him for less with his historical numbers. Probably need to add a year to those Tanev and Markstrom contracts unless we're offering some sort of NTC I'd imagine.
It would be great if we could hold on to Stecher too, though long term that's a crowded RD. He'd be good depth and could be a decent trade piece if we get him on a nice contract. We'd have to somehow lose Beagle or Sutter this year for that though - I'm hoping we can drop 1 or both at the TDL or draft, and they might even have some value still, especially for playoff contenders who want some grit and defensive pedigree (I believe Beagle's been getting caved in this year for advanced stats but at least he's got good faceoff numbers that might be a selling point). In fact, we really need to drop Beagle since his contract goes until the Pettersson/Hughes RFA year. Sutter still scores at a decent rate, hopefully his injury history doesn't scare teams off and we can get something for him, or at least dump him without giving up assets.
