Nylander
What a ridiculous overpayment on the Nylander trade. First off, the Flames had his dad and so they are well aware he is similarly useless once the playoffs start. I’d be reluctant to trade him straight up for Brodie, assuming they talk first and set up a re-sign. Not interested in Nylander.

What Every Team Should Do - Getting Tougher
Although I wouldn’t mind Getting either of Zucker or Kadri, the valuations are crazy. Get real. If that’s the price there will not be a trade, and rightly so.
Calgary is not desperate, they would LIKE to make some changes but if not will have a very strong team battling for the Conference again and then the playoffs with a year of experience behind them. Internally they will be faster (Anderson, Kylington, Valimaki, Dube, and... Lazar...) and can be tougher (e.g Pospisil, Anderson...)

Flames Musings
Interesting pick-ups which should upgrade multiple positions. I might try to keep Bennett (Frolik & Czarnik for Zucker), and I doubt Czarnik makes the main line-up but overall not too bad. I'd probably put Zucker as 1RW, Perry as 2RW.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Zucker
Tkachuk-Kadri-Perry
Bennett-Backlund-Lindholm
Mangiapanne-Ryan-Dube
spares: Brown, Hathaway?
I might be tempted to look to Philly for a mega-trade involving some of Patrick*/Sanhiem/Provorov/Couturier/Hayes with Gaudreau/Monahan*/Backlund/Kylington the potential principles......

Next Three Years - Year 3 SEA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heiskanen4Vezina</b></div><div>Well just a rule of thumb; if you're going to offer 7+ years to a player, they are going to want to see significant money coming back their way. You'll have to initially overpay for a contract of that length, because with a 7+ year deal, it's likely the biggest deal some of these players are going to see. Tkachuk is going to see money similar to what just about every 70+ point player is seeing. He may not get it right now, but when he gets his 7+ year deal, he'll see $8.5M+ per season on his contract. Same goes for guys like Valimaki & Dube. You may be able to get away with the money you're paying them here, if they sign 3-5 year deals. If you want them to agree to a 7+ year contract, you are going to have to bump up the salaries of both significantly.</div></div>
Disagree, those young guys are going to get 2-7 to 8 year contracts. The first could be for a bit less.

All three terrible trades. What are you trying to do, destroy the Flames? Players fine, except Hamonic and Bennett and Pospisil but values way out of whack.

WOW! Actually a very reasonable submission with good signings, trades and line-up, that addresses a lot of the current Flames issues. The Neal trade I agree with you... a perennial 20 goal scorer for a 5th rounder. Unless Anaheim totally blows it up and goes mega-rebuild, it’s a steal for them.

The offer, an overpayment, already has more value than your suggestion. Kylington for Brady straight across realistic and fair, +/- some minor tweaks....

If Stone walks as a UFA his value is dramatically less than as a straight hockey trade. Even as a straight hockey trade, Stone straight across for Valimaki is about right, maybe throw in a mid-level pick....

If Stone is not signing and going to walk as a UFA, you'll need to temper your expectations. Calgary keeps Neal, offers 2nd plus Foo/Gawdin. 2nd becomes a 1st if Stone re-signs in Calgary.

Hey Sens - You Gonna Sign Stone or Not
So true about this site, and that the proposal is overpayment. Look, Ottawa will NEVER trade Stone unless he refuses to sign. Since he could just walk and playoffs are not a factor, they MAY consider it but it's unlikely. Although the offer may not be totally unrealistic if it was a true hockey trade, the reality is Stone's value has to be reduced because he's a UFA that's going to walk (making that assumption). They could have a fit like Burke had a few years back and let a UFA walk because the offer was too low, but realistically the 1st plus 1 of the youngsters, with Frolik as a possible throw-in is still overpayment. Not likely to happen but its in Stone's court.

Realistic Leafs with John Tavares
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LeafsFutures</b></div><div>No I didn’t I addressed both your concerns in one comment. I’ll restate the day he signs the 1 year contract is the same day he signs the 8 year extension. Meaning if he were to get injured the leafs would still have to pay him for the next 8 years.</div></div>
No, because the second, contract extension is dramatically less AAV than the initial it is not allowed via the CBA, and he would be forced to go all the way to UFA status before being allowed to do so (1 year later). Thus the earlier concerns apply and there would be dramatic risk all upon Tavares.
In any case, why would Tavares sign with Toronto in any case? He is supposedly interested in winning the Cup and clearly both Tampa Bay and San Jose are in a much better position to do so both long-term and short-term, offer much better quality of life, would not be living in a fishbowl and, at least in Tampa's case, have a much higher take home pay with zero state taxes?

Bring Back the Battle..Alberta Strong - Both Teams Get Better Filling Needs
I admire the willingness to deal, even with your arch-enemy, but it completely baffles me why in the world someone would even consider that Yanamoto for Brodie & Gillies is even remotely in the realm of a fair trade? What, because at some point in the distant past you could look at it like a 1st for a 4th & a3rd? Completely baffling. Maybe if you exclude the actual only true NHLer, Brodie and make it Yanamoto for Gillies there would be something to discuss. Potential for potential, a higher-drafted, lower worth position guy for a lower-drafted, higher worth position guy, both at or near the thresholds of the NHL. Now that would be reasonable. If you want to throw in Brodie, then throw in RNH, or perhaps Puljujarvi plus a pick?

The Boston deal makes no sense, why would the Flames do that? They have excess D already and have no need for a small, offensive D, no matter that deal is way lopsided as it is. No thanks.
