New Lines after Preseason

it would allow them to ice a 23 man roster tho instead of a 20 or 21... I do think a 2nd is a bit steep to dump foegele, a 3rd rnd should do it I would think.

Holland goes all in
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>Extending Chychrun could be a challenge because all of those guys are signed beyond 3 years. Draisaitl and Holloway (if he makes the team) will need a raise at the same time as Chychrun but before that McLeod, JP, Yamamoto, and Skinner would which might be why Broberg is off the table as well. The cap doesn't go up much next year, and the Oilers will lose a lot of the cap relief that they have this year, which is why I suggested maybe JP and McLeod and it's also probably the reason why Holland isn't willing to bring in Chychrun for Broberg+a 1st+Barrie for example since next year they would still need to make a sacrifice.
Bourgault and Samo are less valuable than JP and McLeod to the Oilers now imo but I wonder if either team would be willing to give/take either package. Perhaps, the best package for both teams would be something like JP+Samo(or another prospect) +1st+Barrie. The Oilers are probably among the teams who aren't super high on Chychrun though.</div></div>
My point was that extending Chych is a non issue because he has 3 seasons left on his deal.... if the Oilers went all in this yr and traded for him and another piece and didnt win a cup in the next 3 yrs they'd most likely be looking at remaking alot of the team by then anyways.

Holland goes all in
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMBL</b></div><div>I don't think Kane makes much sense for the Oilers, but Chychrun isn't a bad idea, but Broberg's and Holloway's ELCs are too valuable for the Oilers, who probably won't be able to extend Chychrun. I wonder though if both sides would be willing to have both McLeod and Puljujarvi+a B prospect instead of a premium prospect+typical cap dump or both Bourgault+Samorukov/Niemelainen.</div></div>
Extending Chychrun is a non issue as he is signed for the next 3 seasons. And i'd argue that McLeod & even Puljujarvi are more valuable(to the Oilers) right now than Bourgault & Samo because they are roster players NOW, not in another season or 2.
As for Niemo i think he could be the most valuable of the players you mentioned because he is arguably ready to play & has a much lower ceiling than Broberg or Bourgault. He's likely a career 3rd pairing dman who brings some physicality. He'll never cost more than say $2.5mill per yr but still serves a crucial spot on the roster. The entire roster cannot be made up top 15 picks who more or less all play the same style of game and who all eventually want to be paid $6mill+.
With McD, Drai, Hyman, RNH, Kane, Nurse, & Bouchard the roster pretty much has its top 2 lines in place. Arguably they need one more top 6 winger(preferably RW) & one more top end Dman, & they need them now, not in 2 or 3 seasons.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>If you've been paying attention you'd know that Holland never goes "all-in", ie. sacrificing the future for the present. He has never traded a 1st for a rental, for example. Neither has the Edmonton Oilers organization in their 40+ year NHL history traded a 1st for a rental. Holland is a builder whose mandate is to create a team that will contend for the entire careers of McDavid and Draisaitl, he's not going to start sending out high end picks and prospects for a short term boost.
He's already had this conversation with Armstrong, and he refused to include Broberg or Holloway in any offer.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>Paying attention??? This is CapFriendly where getting people to read and comprehend the title of the ACGM is a big enough task.</div></div>

Yeah bud, you're out to lunch with this trade. Arizona doesnt even consider it. A trade for Chych would start with Broberg & a 1rst rnd pick. Im not a Barrie hater, he has legit value, just not to the Coyotes at this stage in their rebuild. Lavoie is injured & could very well be a career AHL player at this point.

lol what year are you currently in? Bear is no longer an Oiler.
Even with Smith & Klefbom on LTIR the Oilers still dont have the cap space to ice a 23 man roster. Koekkoek wont even sniff the press box this yr let alone play regular minutes.
Highly unlikely Holland trades both Barrie & PJ in the same season....

replacing Barrie with PK makes the defence worse.
In the current market 30+ year old 4th line players should not be signed for more than $850k per. Janmark, Ryan, & Rask are all overpaid on a team that is desperate for as much cap space as they can get.

Too much for Mayfield.
Highly doubt they would have Bourgault up with the big club just to play 4 mins a night on the 4th line. Call up because of injuries is more likely, otherwise he'll stay down in the A and play top line minutes.
I'd also be surprised if Koekkoek is a press box guy, he'll be down in the A, if even that.

The Oilers would be trading Barrie to free up cap space. This swap does not do that. not to mention, trading Barrie creates an open spot on their RHD that they would need to fill... again this swap doesnt do that.

Edmonton declines hard. There's nothing there that Edmonton wants and CERTAINLY nothing worth a perennial 50 point defenseman and a 1st round pick.</div></div>
Evans would be a good fit on the Oilers, especially next season after Ryan is gone... but that first rnd pick has absolutely no business being in there... pass on Savard as well.

Why are they bringing back Derek Ryan?? And if so, why are they paying him anything more than league minimum.
I am all for believing in the first rnd draft picks, but that is alot of rookies in the lineup for a team that is supposedly cup contenders.

Main issue with the Oilers trade is that they have a plethora of LW so Engvall is not worth a 2nd to them. And Barrie is worth more than Holl so the trade doesnt make sense for the Oilers.

Agreed. Would rather move Foegele, they have plenty of depth as far as left shot guys go & if they are supposedly a cup contending team for the next 3-5 yrs then mid rnd picks should be very much expendable for them if the exchange is cap space.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Man, EDM is in tough here because the logical moves (Barrie/ Foegele/ Puljujarvi) all require less cap coming back to make it work, which in turn makes the value switch from assets to cap space and so little teams have cap space right now.
All 3 guys are worth more than they'd probably get from now till the start of the season but other teams have very little need to pay any kind of asset for them.
If I'm Holland I keep all 3 and hope other team get significant injuries to start the year and then get desperate and ask about these guys. Otherwise, you'll need to move those guys at a major loss.</div></div>
Holding off on trading anyone is definitely an intriguing option.... but man starting the season with a 20 man roster makes me nervous....

Yes I am well aware what the media is saying... but they all said that earlier this summer as well. Not to mention that trading PJ creates a open spot on RW that they dont really have a replacement for. Moving Foegele might cost them a mid round pick but at least doesnt create a hole in the roster with them having plenty of depth when it comes to Left shot guys.... and not to mention, if they are suppose to be a cup contending team for the next 3-5 yrs who gives a f***k about giving up mid round picks.
