It's for one year. One basement dweller to another.
Also, let's assume Zetterberg handshake agrees to LTIR-tire, instead of full-out retirement ala-recapture in this fictitious scenario.

Even Samorukov over bear whatever looks a little better..

Would still need a high-ish pick, since none of those prospects really move the needle.
You have Broberg, Bouchard, Samorukov, Bear and maybe Jones ready to take over on the back-end.
I think it's worth it to add a 3x 25+G winger to McDavid's line.

If he was a free agent today I'd want Ottawa to be all over him, but as far as trading for him, but I can find a better way to spend a 2nd + a 3rd.

I see where you're coming from, but if you signed him as a FA today he would be a 4 mill. player.
Late 2nd + 3rd for a cost controlled Boedker replacement.
You could retain further and sell him for another 2nd+3rd in the future if you really had that much of a youth surplus to many teams.

I think it's more palatable to ARI this way by splitting up the picks into two years.
Better chance for the Habs as well, since I think ARI pick will be higher in 2021.

I see where you're coming from, but I think it's more digestible to NSH this way.
The way I see it, moving up to 2 4th's from2 3rds in a Montreal hosted draft year at the cost of an additional 6th is worth it.
2021 1st adds additional depth later on (or use it in combination to trade up with).

I think offensively he's got a much higher ceiling than Lehk. (Top-6 or bust). He's questionable right now, and needs a change of scenery.
Isles are getting the better player now; however, both are young and have upside+/++/+++.

Idea is to try out Suzuki, JHS, Beauvillier with Poehling / Kotka on youth exploit style lines.
Caufield/Ylonen are 1/2 years out, and Montreal could pickup a replacement who would be ready around the same timeline this draft.
