Value of Jack Hughes at the draft
Yeah, you're looking at Boeser plus to get a generational talent in Hughes. May even cost Pettersson and a pick. No way anyone passes on Hughes.

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT
just give marner and matthews the league minimum. They get to live in Toronto and can make it all back in endorsements. A million each for Marner and Matthews...they want to bring a cup to toronto, they'll take it.
As for that LA deal, Bracco is a stud, get them to throw in Doughty along with the potential first overall pick. They might have to eat some salary and maybe take Horton to make it work, but I think they want to see Toronto win a cup too, so they'll probably play along.
Then swing Zaitsev to St. Louis for Parayko. Parayko is better but he makes more money so it's even. Besides, The blues also want to see the leafs win a cup.
That's how you do it.

Guhle... he's a future top 4 and a far better prospect than Asplund. Asplund also has potential to be a really good middle 6 player. ROR only netted Thompson, who has similar potential to Asplund, and the first being sent back

parayko baby
What is happening right now? Why are all right handed defenceman worth 2 roster players and 2 first round picks? Parayko is a 30 point defenceman who plays behind a perennial all star. He's never been asked to carry a blue line and hasn't had too and yet people are asking for MASSIVE packages for the kid. I honestly hope that some team pays a price this large for Parayko, just not the Leafs. Why I say that is because it'll be a great cautionary tale. This price is double what he should bring in, the value for defenceman on here is insane. Please don't take this as a slight against the player, he is a very good player but the prices people are attaching to him rival what is should cost to obtain Doughty.

Can't see the Wild making a trade like this. It doesn't fit our biggest need, for one, which is a young right shot scoring forward. Second, value is far off.
Coyle > Rust
Brodin > Maatta
And the 4th isn't enough to make up for it.

Aggressive Off Season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corsiagainst</b></div><div>Maybe. That is of course assuming he maintains this pace. He's a great player and has great statistics to back it up. I just think GMJB has shown with his signings that he doesn't over pay (considering what he signed Hutton for and even Eichel), and he can offer Skinner a place to play that is close to home (which is important to Skinner) and being able to play with Eichel for the next 8 years. I still think Skinner gets paid...I just think it will be closer to 8-8.5. I could certainly be wrong though, that's just my opinion.</div></div>
You're right if he likes the situation in Buffalo a million less isn't a big deal.

Preparing for expansion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>corsiagainst</b></div><div>I would not trade Seattle any other assets. Just let them pick one player. If its McCabe, that stinks, but it shouldn't ruin the Sabres.
I think this line of thinking is where most NHL GMs screwed up with Vegas, while allowed Vegas to be so good so quickly. If teams didn't trade Vegas other players/assets to avoid them from taking certain players, I do not think Vegas would of turned out as good as they did (ie. Florida giving them smith to take Marchessault).</div></div>
I agree to a certain extent. That did propel Vegas and there was that Tuch trade to insure Vegas taking Haula, which ended up being disastrous. I’m making this trade if Guhle can’t outplay McCabe. Berglund is a cap dump and completely expendable at that point. This only goes through if the cap gain plus McCabe outweighs Berglund and Guhle. If the cap situation isn’t a problem, then by all means, let McCabe go. LHD aren’t that hard to replace and McCabe won’t be young anymore.

Next season - completely realistic
I really like a lot of this. We have a need for another top-9 C and Hayes would fit that perfectly. I agree with the rest that Pekar probably won’t be ready for nhl so potentially a prospect or minor trade/signed for a bottom 6 guy would do. I think Larry would be fine for another year or two as the 4C. Very solid defensive center. My only big qualm is I don’t think Ullmark will cost us $3mill. Coming off a rookie deal you could get him for about a mill less or more i believe

NYLANDER SIGNS
Clearly both sides are/were holding their respective grounds, but I'm more curious to know what the Leafs initial offer was. In other words, did they low-ball him? I'm not a Leafs fan and I understand Dubas' reluctance to make an error on his first big contract in the first year of his first GM job at the NHL level. But if they offered him the Ehlers deal and didn't adjust it based on the cap going up (remember - when Ehlers signed his deal 6 million AAV was approx. 8% of the cap at the time) then IMO they lowballed Nylander. However, if they adjusted for it and offered Nylander 6.5 AAV and Nylander's camp said, "nope - we want 8 million AAV" then they've obviously misread the market and significantly overvalued Nylander as a player. Suffice to say, I just want to know what the offers were to satisfy my curiosity. If he sits out and doesn't sign those numbers will be leaked, no question. Selfishly - I'd like to see that happen :)

Nylander Offer
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>Leafs have all the leverage. They are winning without him and there are already teams desperate for a bounce-back December. Devils, Flyers are in a similar boat with that. I would say that offer is extremely fair for what you'd be getting. This isn't going go to be low-ball dealing. If you want an elite player, you're going to have to give up significant pieces.</div></div>
Okay let me throw a scenario at you.
Leafs don't sign, don't trade, he sits, leafs get nothing in a year where they aren't winning anything in the postseason with that defense. Then they have 3 to sign next year and you best believe AZ will offer sheet the bajesus out of Matthews.
Everyone knows Dubas NEEDS to trade him, pretty obvious they cant afford him. That's not leverage.

Foley is good depth but we have depth coming through Rochester very soon with Smith and Olofsson. With guys like Bergland 4Mil for 4 more years and Sabotka eating up 3 for 2 more years, adding Bozak at a cap hit of 5 Mil makes no sense when guys like Skinner, Mittelstadt and others who need to be resigned. Bozak also only has 3 more points than Mittelstadt, I know that's not the end all but doesn't give me confidence in his worth</div></div>

Casey Nelson 26
That is my depth chart. Nelson plays ahead of Beaulieu because Housley is a great coach and Betterall is a great GM and they both know most teams that reach the final 4 have 3 LHD and 3 RHD. Since Pilut and Guhle are also left handed that puts Guhle as the 6th LHD. I hope this makes sense, Buffalo could use another RHD prospect but Guhle is definitely the odd man out. Maybe in tow years when Scandella's contract is up, but I do not see him on the team this year nor next year.</div></div>
Bogo, scandella, and bowlyou aren't part of the long term plans. Guhle is. That leaves us with risto, dahlin, guhle, pilut, McCabe, Nelson.
