Kakko
People are saying this is an overpay, but would MTL take Brodzinski, Jayden Grubbe, Zac Jones, and the Rangers 2024 1st for Slaf? That's essentially equivalent lol. Yes Kakko has been underperforming points-wise, but he's objectively been the Rangers best defensive forward, and been injured and had no lineup consistency.

Your trade is equally as ridiculous. You're not getting Kakko just for taking on Goodrow. Probably not even getting that third. He lowkey has positive value because of his defensive ability and leadership. His status as a cap dump is way overstated.

Kakko is worth at least a first still at minimum. You clearly don't follow him at all because you can't even spell his name right.

And yours isn't? Schneider is a premium young asset and you think you're getting him in a package alongside a first for Frank Vatrano?! Lol

At least Kakko has a well-rounded game. Zegras' game is built off his offense and bud has 7 points in 20 games this season. He's a bust. Take off your eggplant tinted glasses

If Kakko is a bust then what does that make Zegras? Kakko > Zegras all day

Habs 2023-2024
That is way too much for Monahan for the Rangers. Barron wouldn't play for the Rangers so he adds no value. Drury clearly doesn't want to do business with Gorton, so if the Canadiens want to ship Monahan to NYR, they aren't going to get as much as they want, and they've been looking for a first. Sykora is worth a lot right now as well so adding him on top of the first is egregious.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>Weird because Vatrano would be third on the rangers in scoring right now, yet he makes half of 2nd places salary, and a quarter of the guy who is leading in scoring, a d yet retention for two seasons is requested, we view this as a gross underpayment.</div></div>
Vatrano would be 6th amongst Rangers forwards in EV points, which is important as he would not play significant PP time for the Rangers. And he's having a likely unsustainable career year inflated by playing significant minutes on a team that isn't good. A 2nd overall pick from three years ago that has struggled but shown significant potential (and has many more years of control) plus a first is worth way more than Vatrano. I understand why a Ducks fan would see an underpayment due to their own biases, and I concede that I have my own biases, but you have to look at the objective big picture. If you want a significant package like Kakko + 1st, you're going to have to look elsewhere and I doubt any GMs would be willing to part ways with that much capital for Vatrano.

Schneider is the best defensive "prospect" (He's started young and technically is a regular now) that the Rangers have, and has untapped potential. Trading him for a struggling player in Zegras who likely does not fit the culture would be a terrible move, as the player replacing Schneider would be worse and would cause many other issues. I don't see any world where he is traded, as his potential alone is worth keeping him on the team.

Zegras to Rangers
No reason for the Rangers to open up a big hole by sending away an extremely valuable piece in Schneider. Maybe Kakko, Othmann, Goodrow? I still don't think a shakeup like that would be positive for the Rangers, I think any deals they make would not involve any big roster players like Kakko or Schneider. Unfortunately they can't really afford Zegras without gutting the whole farm (Perreault, Othmann, Berard, picks, etc.). So I don't think that Zegras to NY makes sense unless ANA gets absolutely fleeced.

Rangers easily pass on both trades. They are getting fleeced on both. Schneider is worth way more than an expiring Tanev, and Kakko + 2nd is worth maybe 10x Ruzicka. And the other trade is just horrific lol.

Since you're using other players in this conversation, why don't you look at how Dougie has played with a great DFD in Siegs that lets him focus on his offense, while Trouba has played with a young D in Miller who Trouba constantly has to recover for Miller's mistakes. I'm done arguing with someone who has no idea what they are talking about

Hamilton wasn't even good at defense when he was on the canes who had one of the best defensive systems in the league. One of the many reasons they didn't re-sign him
