Pietrangelo
I don't see too much of a bright future for the Leafs from the backend; if they don't sign a Tanev or Hamonic this offseason, and Pietrangelo is a really really long shot, they're going to have another first round exit next year. In 2021, the big name is Dougie Hamilton, but Carolina is in a great cap situation so I wouldn't be surprised to see him resigned. There's not a whole lot of RHD after that; there's Petry and Niskanen, but they're not that good defensively. If the Leafs draft Schneider, lets hope him, Liljegren, and Sandin turn into studs because even if the Leafs offer one of the big 4, teams are reluctant to trade top RHD.

Not saying that he won't get that, but the Leafs absolutely cannot afford him at that price. Besides, his career has really derailed and idk how good of a player he is still. If he does come to the leafs, I envision it being a Tyler Ennis type deal, where he signs 1 year for cheap, uses our medical staff/therapies etc. to try to get his career back on track - and that's a big IF
Also I don't think DeMelo signs for that little, it'll prob be $2.4M+ to 3.5
Also you really sold low on Dermott :(</div></div>
You're probably right, I guess we could flip the Simmons/Demelo contracts. Just trading Dermott's rights.

You want to trade one of the best backups in the league, maybe even a future starter, for a third rounder? Not too smart.

they have about 18 million for next season, Marner's going to eat up alot of it, but they could trade a Radulov for depth D, and then resign Heinz, Faska, and Gurianov

idk, I'd like to see what Korshkov can do in the NHL. He's 24 now, who can score a goal here and there. I think Engvall is really overpaid.

Perhaps, but I like Kapanen's game and still think he has upside at only 24. Rutherford has helped the team with back to back cups which is something I'd take in Toronto, even if it means giving up all those first round picks. Look at Chicago and Detroit; you can't have competitive teams forever.

Matter of fact there should be rules on this.
Not only should the player have to hit 40 goals at least 1 time, you should at least be able to say the player was on pace over half a season to repeat that task. 1x wonders really don't do it.</div></div>
CAN easily put up 40 goals and 80 points a season, as in has the ability to, not WILL put it up, which is a guarantee, or HAS put up a 40 goal season. Again a bad trade for Toronto.

I love Wilson, but that trade is downright awful for Toronto. Nylander can easily be a 40 goal, 80 point player every year and is no where near his prime. Another bad trade with Edmonton, the Leafs can fetch a better dman than Larsson. I don't think Philly has any interest in trading Laughton. And with the Toronto defence, Murray isn't that much of an upgrade over Andersen anyways, although he is a couple of years younger.

It can take a defenceman sometimes 3 to 5 years to fully develope so the Leafs just need to stay patient and comitted to these young defenceman and let them learn and gain more NHL experience. I really think these 4 great young defenceman on the team combined with Rielly who is already a top five defenceman in the entire NHL and Muzzen who is maybe one of the best defensive defenceman in the entire NHL will give the Leafs one of the best defensive cores in the entire NHL for years to come .</div></div>
Question is do you want to win now or later?

I wouldn't trade Matthews, Marner or Nylander. They have way too much upside, and Nylander is starting to show it. Unless you get back a young Roman Josi in return.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>That's the perception, but not true. Sens had already mad a qualifying offer before July 1st, so the Leafs were taking that contract. The fact the the official signing happened after July 1st, doesn't really matter. If Ottawa had not made that qualifying offer, Ceci would have been a UFA. You acknowledge he was a RFA not a UFA. The only reason he was a RFA was because of the pre July 1st qualifying offer by the Sens.</div></div>
I see, I didn't know, I thought they just aquired the rights then signed him because they needed a RHD. I still think Dubas should have gone after Skjei especially now and I'm sure he could of found a suitor for Ceci even at that cap hit, its only a one year deal.

They acquired him at the beginning of the season then signed him as an RFA. Released him right then and there would cost them nothing.

Most of those veterans scoring high in the AHL aren't 22 years old. He's not Marner, but I still think he can be a top 9 forward.
