You could've added Hallander to play on the 3rd with Bellerive and Hornqvist, which could be a great energy scoring line. Could've as well added Addison ;) I've got a high hope he would be a gem to replace Schultz before doing so with Tanger :awesome 7M idk it would be an absolute max a contender should allow to pay to its starter... if sure the Pens plan to be a contender after 2020 :sarcasm and yet you have 430k to still spend on 3 roster players. Smth tells me Phil won't be on that team.

Are the 2020-2021 Pens in the same pickle than CHI is right now??
There are no Bellerive, Hallander on the roster, one of these guys could have been a 3c with an option to be a TOP6 winger. I think Blueger's got a good chance to crack in the team this season and I think DiPauli is also higher on the depth chart than Dea in this regard. Overall they could have a good TOP6 without Brassard or someone like Gagner.
I think Addison is the one offensive RHD to replace Shultz by that time. So no need to trade for Bean, and I do not like much Zykov either as this team could have enough offensive talent. I'd narrow the list of Kessel trading partners to FLA, ARI, MIN teams, mb VGK but would prefer to do that trade sooner and receive some quality roster player than later and end up with futures/prospect.

I like Trocheck much but so does Florida. I think they are looking to move Bjugstad first but don't know if they can find a good trade partner to receive a nice value in return. Trocheck-Kessel swap could be a fair starting point for a trade but they could have issues with Phil's salary. I think Pens will have to overpay here adding a prospect and/or retaining salary.
Looks like Trouba demanded 8*8 just might be being a way to force himself out of Jets. Anyway it seems like they will be moving him but the question is when. If I'm correct they can choose to keep him him for two years with the arbitration's AAV and he still be a RFA in July 2020. So there is still no hurry for them and potential buyers...
Overall I like the idea and how the team looks :cool

The NHL is constantly changing (Caps won with an Burakovsky-Eller-Connoly 3rd line) - I think that a second line of Hagelin-Malkin-Kessel allows Kessel to be offensive minded still and could be dominant, and that 3rd line I mentioned gives Sprong the leash to just go and score goals and allows the Pens to have their best 9 players all in the top 3 lines.. I'm sure we'll see combinations of everything, especially in the first couple months and with GMJR's comments about Brass at LW - but that's just my $.02</div></div>
Yeap makes sense. Brassard-Sprong could be considered as a weak chain by now but Rust could make it better. But I think Rust is better as a RW... Anyway if that line proves itself why not?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>IgorKutchakokov</b></div><div>I get the sense that Malkin/Kessel will definitely be on the same line.. And Brassard moving to Malkin's left creates a problem in my eyes in which you either have Rust (and his $3.5m cap hit) or Hagelin (and his $4m cap hit) on the fourth line. I kinda hope they give Rust-Brass-Sprong a chance before moving Brass up to LW</div></div>
Everybody knows Malkin and Kessel like to play with each other. But Sullivan always returns to three equal lines' idea. Now he'll have Sprong and I hope he'll play him with either Sid or Geno... That leaves Hornqvist on a line with the one of them as well. Phil and Riley played fairly well. I thought adding Brassard could benefit and here's another very capable unit.
As to Rust or Hagelin on the 4th I see no issues with Rust being on the very bottom line as he makes any line just better no matter who he plays with. Hagelin is quite opposite and seems to be attached to Malkin. That's why he'd be the first one who could be traded. I don't think he'll be in PIT next season anyway...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CanadasTeam88</b></div><div>Im guessing Matta is getting traded, maybe for Patches?</div></div>
Looks like MTL is quite thin on D, Maatta would certainly help. But I don't think PIT will change anything in defence in near future. If they are going to trade for Patches/Skinner/other wing it'll be salary of Hagelin/Brassard/Kessel involved unless they get a young ready to play ELC D in return for Maatta.
So they're going to try Brassard as wing and it make sense as he didn't quite fit in as a 3C. He could play either 1) with Malkin and Sprong to complement Geno with the FO and be a two-way speedy forward on this unit or 2) with Sheahan and Kessel to find if there any chemestry could be.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b><a href="http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2018/07/12/Penguins-top-six-wing-Derick-Brassard-Jim-Rutherford/stories/201807120216" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2018/07/12/Penguins-top-six-wing-Derick-Brassard-Jim-Rutherford/stories/201807120216</a></b></div><div>
According to general manager Jim Rutherford, the Penguins coaching staff plans to test Derick Brassard on the wing during training camp, and it would likely be in a top-six capacity — to take advantage of Brassard’s skating, shooting and vision.</div></div>

So what generally this one does is trading
Shultz, Rust, a 1st
for
Drouin, a 2nd and a 3rd
I don't believe the trade makes the team better... I think Pitt looses here as they don't need the draft picks and Drouin.
Rust is virtually indispensable for being able to play in any line on any side.
They'll need Shultz till the time Addison makes it into the team.

Pens 2018 opening night roster with signings and trades. Thoughts??
I thought this team was overloaded much. No need to spend assets on Dal Colle and Pirri as as there are lots of forwards in WB/S waiting for a chance to earn a permanent spot place and some drafted prospects as well.
I propose we'd better use Jarry to include in a package to trade for some big fish. So as we'd do with Hagelin but we'll need a substitution in first PK unit then.
Overall JJ if added to a team would be enough to go into the season... They'll try Riikola first before continuing to upgrade the D corps.

I've read that every season he submits a list of teams with cap issues so that he wouldn't be traded. If he didn't like it in Pitt anymore I would suppose BOS, MIN, CHI could be his obvious choices, FLA, mb SJ and NY area perhaps?
I think Pitt won't trade him quickly (pre/at draft, till mid-season) but will see how Sprong has progressed. I'd personally would love a PIT-FLA trade around Kessel-Trocheck but that could happen later when Phil's salary in net goes down after 2019/2020.

lineup change
Bringing in Sprong would be a desperate move from HCMS I think. A very high risk to concede a goal rather than to score one with him on board. On the other hand he could be very useful on the PP2. Might be a Sheahan-Brassard-Sprong line an option of using two two-way forwards to balance up the play. Then we could have Rust-Malkin-Kessel line which was productive in the end of the regular season.
Anyway as for now I'd go with 11 forwards and 7 defencemen to make an opportunity for Oleksiak to switch off Wilson. Three scoring lines and two PK-forwards, Kuhnhackl with either Rowney or Jooris with Sheahan centering them from time to time.

Simple Airmchair for if Penguins win the Cup
Eveybody want to improve his team and perhaps I just want to believe that Kulemin can be a fit too much. But I'm going to try once again.
Nobody cannot be 100% correct that he is able or isn't to be a fit being top6 with Malkin. Because nobody knows. If he has been able to play Malkin some time ago and they're actually friends since playing in childhood why not to try to referesh this experience and check if it still clicks while this experience can cost virtually nothing? So here is a simple implementation plan:
1. Sign Kulemin (who's UFA and isn't getting a good contract after injury) to a PTO to see if he can be of value on this team.
2. Evaluate his health and abilities.
3. Play him with Malkin in training and exhibition games.
4. If he shows he can be productive there then it's fine and sign him for a max of $1.5M.
5. You can have a line where you can place anyone of Kessel, Hornqvist, Rust, Sprong, ZAR, mb Sheary on the right wing.
6. If Kulemin proves himself and Malkin's line plays well you can trade Hagelin and have some $$ to improve your roster.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>biglite351</b></div><div>Rowney and Kuhnhackl are penalty killers at half the price.
I don't know what "mix of facts" you are thinking about, but Kulemin doesn't take faceoffs. He took 10 this year, at a whopping 40%. Maybe you are thinking about someone else, or are you still thinking about pre-2008 KHL stuff? I didn't need your info, because I am aware of much more accurate info apparently.
Just some "mix of facts" on Kulemin NYI:
14-15: 24 faceoffs 29.2%
15-16: 59 faceoffs 39%
16-17: 27 faceoffs 51.8%
17-18: 10 faceoffs 40%
Last 4 seasons total: 117 faceoffs 41%
That is not a guy that can win faceoffs, nor one that takes many at all. Over the last 2 years Rowney has 508 faceoffs at 51%. Overall hockey I'll opt Kulemin over Rowney, but PKer that can take faceoffs, Rowney without pause over Kulemin. Kulemin just doesn't bring anything that many many other guys bring at much less than $1.5M.</div></div>
41% is not much less than Geno has this season, they could have had a sort of competition. Kuhnhackl or Rowney cannot play with Malkin due to lack of skillset. Kulemin has that ability and has had that experience playing with. But looks like Geno is a type of player any capable NHL-level player can play with.

However, I do not want all of those guys on the team, especially for $1.5M.
When you consider cap hit to what a guy brings to the team, Hagelin is head and shoulders the worst contract on the Penguins.</div></div>
Yes in terms of cap mgmt he is :| and signing Kulemin makes Hagelin expendable and supports a cap relief of $$MM. By the way Kulemin is a PK specialist who can win face-offs. But I see you don't need this info further on as you've got your own mix of facts about 600 players in your head :squinty

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>biglite351</b></div><div>Kulemin is a high end 4th liner, fill in 3rd liner type. Doesn't do anything that would get him a sniff at the top 2 lines unless there is a series of in-game injuries. He had 1 good year, seven seasons ago, seven. I'd put Rust above him on a depth chart. The only "regulars" on the Pens that I would put Kulemin above would be Rowney and Kuhnhackl, but you can get them at half the price that you gave Kulemin.</div></div>
In my opinion the 31-point season of 14/15 which was his first season in NYI could also be considered as a successful one. He also was a PpG in KHL in 12/13 playing with Malkin. I don't know if the productive KHL season might be considered a successful or not but I think what matters is that he was successful playing with Malkin which was also the case in a national team. So that was not a single time span. Rowney or Kunhhackl didn't have that success or productivity even once. Maybe only in CHL or AHL. They are good enough to play up to 10 mins on the 4th line. It's wise cap management.
Rust is obviously better than Kulemin because of the intangibles he brings in to any line and should demand 3M per being a RFA. It's better to compare Kulemin and Hagelin who is a player of similar dimension and who's playing currently on a line with Geno. In my mind that kind of players are very dependent on the HC and overall skill level of the team and primarily on their own personal psychology to play a certain role on a daily basis. I think it's a good chance to be more comfortable in a team of 3 scoring lines than that in which you are restricted by the narrow limits of defensive role.

I'm very glad you've changed your mind on Kulemin :cheers I actually like it much now but I think we'd have to offer larger numbers to Oleksiak (aroudn 2.0-2.5), Rust (Sheary's 3*3), Sheahan (idk depends on Cup success, might be 2.5 or 3.5 long-term). And I think we should sign for a Ruhwedel-like contract Jooris.
And we still need a defender here. How about Antipin from BUF? It'd be also as simple as it could be. Pens wanted him in mid-season but he chose Sabres. Now I doubt he's much keen on staying and will demand not much money. They also played him on that line in KHL: Kulemin - Malkin - Mozyakin (the Goalscorer), Gonchar-Antipin. Another opportunities could be Connaugton, Benn or mb persue UFA Emelin, who can play either side and successfully substitute Cole.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yinz3r</b></div><div>Kulemin is a waste of roster spot and cap space. pens can sign kunitz for that much and be better off</div></div>
He's a waste of roster spot on a team with a HD who doesn't value him much and treat him like a bottom line checker only. Looks at his stats in TOR his first seasons as well as his production in the lockout in KHL when he played on a line with Geno and a profilic sniper. It'd be classics of a well balanced line (Kulemin-Geno-Kessel). He's a certainly not a waste of cap space (1.5M/y) when he'd be glad to prove himself and others smth and would have and opportunity to do that.
