<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Britishbulldog</b></div><div>Is Chychrun a 'franchise' defenceman? I understand a bit off the hype but now that OEL is in Vancouver and Chychrun is the #1 LHD for Arizona he seems to be struggling. If he can't handle all the tough assignments, PP1 and PK1 while thriving he isn't a 'franchise' defenceman.
I don't watch any Arizona games but have not heard anyone else call him a franchise defenceman on the sports channels so I am genuinely wondering.</div></div>
He’s 23 so still developing, but has all the makings of a franchise defenseman. When he had a competent D partner last year he was a rockstar but it’s been hard to build any sort of consistency with the rotating cast of characters playing with him this year. This was always going to be a down year for him because of how much talent the Coyotes lost this past offseason.
The fact remains that he’s young, cheap, and has shown flashes of being able to play on that level already. Coyotes can’t and won’t trade him for less than that value because if he becomes that franchise defenseman it will reflect terribly on the front office.

As my Coyotes go-to guy, would you please do me a favor and be so kind as to check out my last two Arizona posts?
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2966083
https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/2960658
Even "no comment" would be okay. Thanks in advance!</div></div>
Of course! Checked out both posts, here are my thoughts on both:
Best Possible TDL: I like the Kessel deal though I think he’ll end up on more of a guaranteed cup contender (Vegas seems like the best fit). I don’t have a problem with the Armia deal but I think that’s more likely done in the off-season. Not a huge fan of the Vegas deal though, Dadonov helps the team now which is what the team is trying to avoid. I do think it’s possible that they trade Boyd, but more likely they trade Larsson.
Modest Improvements: same thing with the Dadonov deal with the added pain of trading Jenik. He’s only going to be a middle 6 player but I love his grit and fire. Great guy to have in the locker room.
Overall, you are one of the more informed posters on here when it comes to the coyotes, which is certainly a breath of fresh air haha. Always look forward to seeing your posts on here

Moving him now anything you get is pure profit and I think you can get a 3rd maybe even a 2nd for him but he is still risky to take on. I'd think Arizona would want to keep him, he eats huge minutes and his actually dollars are less than his cap hit.</div></div>
That’s all true. I’d like to keep him but it feels like his value will never be higher than it is now, and the team direction has certainly been to trade anything of value for futures. If all they can get is a 3rd I’d keep him but if they can get a 2nd or more then he’s as good as gone IMO

I don’t really know much about Achan as a prospect, but I don’t see why Ghost at $2.25m for 2 seasons is not worth a 2nd or 3rd plus a B-/C prospect (which maybe Achan isn’t, again don’t know much about him)

Take your choice of any non Coyotes 3rd round picks in 2023 or 2024. That’s the most I’d give up personally in a straight up deal. Maybe toss in a half interesting prospect (Dineen perhaps)

He’s on pace for 55 points…. on this Coyotes team. Hasn’t been egregious in the defensive zone either. For $2.25 for this season and next why wouldn’t a team pay that price for him?

Built for Wright
I like the moves, tend to agree that Phil would not be a good fit on the Bruins (too much past history), but I think Debrusk is a good piece for the Coyotes to go get. Schmaltz is better served as a wing though, with this roster I’d like to see the forward lines be:
Keller-Wright-Schmaltz
Debrusk-Hayton-Guenther
Crouse-Jenik-Sanford
Dzingel-Boyd-Fischer
That’s a forward group that I’d be somewhat excited to watch, especially after this abomination of a forward group we’ve put on the ice this year.
Also I highly doubt that Ghost will be on the team past this year’s TDL. He’s probably our most valuable asset in terms of trade value

Arizona is really not doing well financially and Matthews would bring attendance up while they are going to be bad, because the moves they have made is dooming Arizona to shame for Shane next year and Connor Bedard the year after.</div></div>
“Dooming” them to picking 2 guys considered to be top of the lineup guys? That’s exactly their plan. Suck now to go get those guys and hopefully be a playoff team/contender with one or both of those guys in 3-4 years. What you are saying makes no sense

Making the trade above mortgages their entire future though. It’s just not realistic given how they’ve already stripped the team down to the bare minimum. They’re giving up their best player, 2 best prospects, best overall center and arguably best LW for one guy, who is very much worth all of those players, but not for Arizona right now. Again, if they want Matthews they’ll wait until he’s a free agent and try to get him without giving up assets

Doesnt fit the roster timeline. Even with AM34 this team would still be bottom 5 in the league. Coyotes aren’t going to trade for him they’re going to wait it out and try to sign him when his contract is up, which as it so happens is when they’re trying to be good.

Maybe. Coyotes writer said that Dvorak chatter quieted down today. I like the Rangers deal you posted the other day for Chytl and Georgiev. But I think the Eichel deal has to happen first, whoever Dvorak gets traded to.
If I had a nickel for every time someone on this website said there’s no way a goalie would return a first round pick…. Armstrong has balls of steel watching the market unfold and getting maximum return back. Hopefully Timmins can realize his potential with more NHL playing time.

He’d play 3rd line and be a powerplay specialist for you. You’re adding less than $1.5 mil to your cap space. Coyotes certainly have enough cap space to take on a worse contract/more bad contracts if need be. Don’t know much about Korczak but he’s a long ways away at 20 years old

It would be a fantastic 3rd line, one of the best in the league in my opinion.
They really dropped the ball on some picks, especially since there was no side deals. They should have taken Bean, Domi, Zadorov, and probably Fischer instead of the guys they took from those teams. But you can’t ignore the amount of cap space they have, they can sign both Hamilton and Landeskog and have 10 M remaining. Don’t think they’ll get either guy but still, cap space is a valuable asset

It’s not that much of an overpay. A good backup goalie, a LD prospect that doesn’t have a roster spot long term (and has competition from Robertson in about a year), and a young C who hasn’t been able to put it all together yet for a great 3C/good 2C who kills penalties and plays in front of the net on the powerplay. Seems pretty fair to me, especially if the high second round pick is coming back
