Wheeler Buyout Trade Schiefele and Stay Competitive
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>Okay. In the context of a trade for a PPG 1C on a great contract, Kravtsov is virtually worthless. Like if say the Rangers gave up 4 pieces, Kravtsov would be the 4th and least valuable. It's that better?</div></div>
That's reasonable, he has the talent to be a good player though. Now if I added say Kaako and a third to this trade, would that be more reasonable to you?

Start with untouchable prospect? I don't see Schneider going anywhere. Kaako might move but Schneider won't happen.

Sorry I mistyped. I still think worthless is a steep term for him though.

Winnipeg, looks like they have hit their peak. Life style? Jets have the probably the second worse travel schedule in the NHL. And I won't even mention the weather in Winnipeg for an American who has played most of his NHL career in warm climes.
Don't know how the Rangers can afford Scheifle without sending cap back in any trade.</div></div>
Fair enough, I thought you meant Trocheck going to Pittsburgh that's my bad. But the Rangers should be able to find room for Schiefele, I'd retain a small amount of salary if necessary but I'd want another draft pick to do that for them.

There's no way to stay competitive with them anyway but yeah it'll be hard to get players to want to come here.

Where's the cap space for that to work? Geno, Letang, Rust, Kapanen and more are going to need contracts at the end of the season. There wouldn't be enough space for Pittsburgh to sign him unless he takes a huge discount.

Off-Season Prospect Collecting for the Future
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TCMonkey</b></div><div>Yes, because one move by a club means ALL their moves must be similar! Speaking of which, has Montreal decided which sexual predator they'll be drafting in the first round this year?</div></div>
Those aren't even comparable, most teams were going to draft Mailloux ANYWAYS it just happened to be MTL, Ottawa was the only team we are aware of that was in on Hamonic and they paid the Canucks while helping their cap problems. Byron could for sure have use for the Sens, teams don't magically build up overnight, if you want to argue he's not a great player, fine but his veteran presence would be appreciated there. It doesn't HAVE to be a third round pick either, could be a fourth or even fifth round pick.

A goalie for next season take 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>oilersfan150</b></div><div>Pens don't decline they immediately accept that extreme overpay.</div></div>
I don't see a world where they accept and don't sign a proven starter in free agency. It's an overpay for a rental but Pittsburgh could alternatively extend Jarry. I don't think Holland would ever pay that much for a goaltender either for this trade to be realistic.

Preds decline. They see Lauzon as a long term piece, he's also going to be cheaper and fit better in their system than Barrie. Penguins probably decline too unless they sign a goalie in free agency, I imagine they view themselves competitive as long as Crosby/Malkin/Letang are together.

I'd take that if we got a second rounder with him as well. The pick doesn't have to be this year either.

Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>Are you overpaying for Driedger cause of the retention?</div></div>
Yes, and taking on Smith's contract and Shore's. We saw what Driedger could do with the Panthers, I think it's unfair to rate Driedger's talent based off this season in Seattle because they have been BAD. Seattle will ask for a lot because they know Edmonton has goaltending problems, and I mean if they got a second for Lauzon it only makes it wonder what Driedger could cost with salary retention. Woodcroft has helped the team figure out some of the defensive problems too so I expect the team's skaters to be more settled down and more responsible in their own end next year to help Driedger, worst comes to worst play Skinner and see what happens.

TRUE! I'm a Habs fan too but I think a high end second pairing guy is a reasonable expectation. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd say Guhle might have better odds of becoming 1LD for this team than Romy down the line.

He's 22 and this year hasn't been good for many players for MTL. You can't give up on a d-man too quickly cause it could easily backfire. I don't know if he's the next Weber but if he can be a solid second pairing guy then that should be fine for the Canadiens future imo.

Updated Oilers Deadline Acquisition Ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>They want to get more physical and you target Kessel and Brown??</div></div>
On a healthy lineup they already have a good amount of physicality with this between Hyman, Kane, Martin, Kassian and Nurse anyways. Brown is a solid two-way guy so they won't have to outscore their problems while helping the PK. Kessel would help this team out on the right wing. The cap won't even be that tight since they're probably not keeping Kane and Kessel won't stay. You could look at trading Smith for more cap space then bring up Skinner as the backup too.

Now I think of yeah it might be harder to get Graves out of them. What else would I add to that deal to make it more realistic?
