Updated Oilers Deadline Acquisition Ideas

Created by: dfgfhfgtg
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 7, 2022
Published: Mar. 8, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Going all in again without giving up all of the prospects at the deadline. Draft picks are quite empty though but Edmonton has to go all in with McDavid and Draisaitl sooner rather than later.

Price for Connor Brown might be more but I'm not sure if the Senators want to shop him anyways.*

This roster would also assume most players are healthy come the playoffs excluding players with lack of timeline to return.**

Arizona accepts. NJ declines. NYI considers but that retention will hurt them. Have to think Ottawa takes that.

I don’t hate the first two trades together can make some sense of from oilers point of view although some questions would have like kessel willing to deal with Canadian press again thinking Toronto played a toll on him. The second two not such a fan of paying a big price to add term to an already very very tight offseason.

Isles probably want a different prospect back than Konovalov, they have Jakub Skarek in the AHL who's a year younger than him and already putting up better numbers. If they're looking for prospects, they're gonna want LD or wingers that shoot.

I'll also say that Matt Martin isn't really worth adding to the trade, especially since you have the 2022-23 Oilers real tight against the cap. Sure, you can bury his salary if need be, but I'm assuming you added a little bit to that trade on the Oilers side to include him and I don't think he adds much value. If you want to add a bottom 6 winger who can still play well, with no term, and who can be retained down to almost the same salary, can I interest you in pending UFA Cal Clutterbuck?

On a healthy lineup they already have a good amount of physicality with this between Hyman, Kane, Martin, Kassian and Nurse anyways. Brown is a solid two-way guy so they won't have to outscore their problems while helping the PK. Kessel would help this team out on the right wing. The cap won't even be that tight since they're probably not keeping Kane and Kessel won't stay. You could look at trading Smith for more cap space then bring up Skinner as the backup too.

This is the kind of deal that it would take to pry Connor Brown out of Ottawa's hands before next year's deadline. Sens say yes and DJ Smith is upset about it but they take it.

Value is good but they would still be stupid to do so. At some point, you have to stop trading proven players for futures

That move just extends the rebuild even more

Batherson has 5 years left on his contract. Chabot and Tkachuk have 6
