Disagree completely. This third line has an enormous ceiling offensively, fourth line has a very low ceiling. You know what you're getting from the fourth line, and that's not a whole lot. I think this team is going to be very good this year, as long as Smith can stay healthy. Jankowski/Bennet/Czarnik all have loads of potential, I could see each of them scoring 35+ points.

To me, this is not a lottery team. if things are left as is, I would see them finishing somwhere between 10-12 in the East, maybe 20-24 overall.

Nowhere close, easy pass from WPG. FLA gets the best two players in the trade, with barely anything to make up for it. A wheeler trade starts with Huberdeau or Borgstrom

playoffs?
I think a lot of things are going to have to go right for Arizona to be a playoff team. To me, they're still 2 years out from that. Goaltending will need to take a huge leap forward, and secondary scoring will as well. This will be a good team in a few years, but not just yet. Be patient.

I am a big advocate for a tandem of Smith and Anderson between the pipes and if that is what it took to get it done, in my mind it's a no doubter.</div></div>
That's a good point that I hadn't thought of. I wonder if, instead of the third rounder, the Flames added in Jankowski.
To OTT: Stone, Jankowski
to CGY: Anderson, McCormick (maybe a 6th or 7th rounder?)
Curious to know if you think that might be closer. I think a Smith/Anderson duo would be awesome in CGY. Splitting games would be good as both are aging goalies, and both have been successful in spurts. Interesting thought!

Max McCormick has played the past 4 seasons in Belleville and put up decent numbers while there. Problem is, that hasn't really translated to any success at the NHL level. To me, he's very much in the same position as Nick Paul, for reference. Both players will be given longer looks in the NHL this year, but I don't see McCormick ever being much more than a 12/13th forward. I added him in this trade thinking that it could maybe bump up the pick I included with Stone by a round or two. To me, might as well get something for him, since if he has another year without much success at the NHL level, I can see the Sens moving on without him.

How so? This team is going to be bad. Why not trade guys who have some sort of value (or have asked to be moved) for young prospects and picks? As a Sens fan, I'd be thrilled to see these moves.

Best first line in hockey?
This is basically taking the three best forwards from every team, which means there would be lots of teams that would be close or better than this.
BOS: Bergeron/Marchand/Pastrnak
WPG: Scheifele/Wheeler/Laine
DAL: Benn/Seguin/Radulov
FLA: Barkov/Huberdeau/Hoffman
TBL: Stamkos/Kucherov/Miller
TOR: Matthews/Tavares/Marner
STL: Tarasenko/O'Reilly/Schwartz
PIT: Crosby, Malkin, Kessel
WSH: Ovechkin, Backstrom, Kuznetsov
Not saying they're all better, but they'd give this line a run for their money for sure. I'd probably take PIT, WSH, BOS and WPG over this line. McDavid is fantastic, but Draisaitl had a mediocre year and Nugent-Hopkins consistently underwhelms me.

That is absolutely nowhere close. If you want PK, you're likely giving up Larkin, Cholowski, and a 1st, if not more. You can't be serious with Danny Dekeyser being the main piece of a PK Subban trade. And you want them to retain salary? Wow.

Multiple sources have him as a top 3 prospect on their team. To me, that's considered high-level, at least internally. Either way, I wouldn't be trading him away plus another first round pick for TJ

Trades - OTT and VGK
Not a chance I take that deal as Ottawa. Stone is their best all around forward, and if Karlsson leaves, their captain. No way I give him up for a #3 defenceman who would likely leave after 2 years. I'd rather pay Stone the money and keep him long term.

I'd pass on all three of those deals if I was the other team. Gourde, Foote, Coburn are not the top tier of prospects. The first rounder will be 25+. Ottawa could get more, especially at the deadline. For NJD, why trade away a high level prospect and a first round pick for something you could develop internally? Tyler Johnson is a 2C at best. Not worth it to ship out one of your better prospects and a first rounder for him, especially when you know what TBL's cap situation looks like. He could be had for less. For Montreal, it's close, but to take on the Girardi contract, TBL is going to have to give up value. Coburn and washes out the 4th rounder. I don't think Koekkoek is worth a high second rounder right now. Close though, maybe a third instead?

Who would you have taken at no 3 if you were Marc Bergevin
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Gallagher11</b></div><div>I agree with Zadina, but I’m not sold on Tkachuk and Bouchard. Sure, they are going to be great NHL players for their team, but I don’t think they are as talented as the other guys in my list. They’re overrated in my opinion, but that’s just me. I think a guy like Hughes would be a better option and fit since they lack quality LHD. Kotkaniemi has more upside than Tkachuk and Brady didn’t impress me that much . As the oldest player in the draft, I expected him to be dominant, which he was, but not at the level I wanted him to be.</div></div>
Fair enough. I'm a Sens fan, so I was also disappointed they didn't take Zadina, but would not have wanted Kotkaniemi that early. I like your list, but Quinn Hughes is too small of a dman for me to pick at #3. At least with a bigger guy, it's somewhat easier for them to make the transition. I like guys like Quinn Hughes between 8-12, but not top 5. I guess it depends on your plan, but being a Sens or Habs fan, I think you'd want those high picks in the NHL lineup as soon as possible. I don't see Hughes being there in the next two years, but will be a really nice piece in 3+ years. All about what you prefer i guess!

I still think $5mm is a little too high for his level of point production, even factoring in all the other things he brings to the table. I'd be perfectly happy if they gave him anywhere from 5-7 years at $4 to $4.5mm. I've split the difference to reflect, and gone $4.25mm for 5 years, as I still think that is perfectly fair for both sides.</div></div>
We should really just be the team and player doing the negotiating, we seem to be pretty good at this stuff!

I think you overpay on this from a Flyers perspective. Marner should be a great player, but is very unproven to be getting Voracek who is very well solidified as an elite passer in the NHL. Voracek should have the same value as Marner IMO, which means giving up Lindblom, Hagg and Myers is a very big overpay. Myers looks like he will be an elite defenseman if his trajectory stays where it is. I wouldn't do this as the Flyers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MK57</b></div><div>Interesting - what makes you say that? I think the Boone Jenner contract is a pretty comparable one in terms of team role, upside, point production, etc., although I do think Wilson will get more than him. I could see 5x$4mm, but not a ton more than that. Just curious on your reasoning!</div></div>
That's a good comparison, but I would say the impact that the player had on their team is what makes the difference. Both big bodies who play a rough game, but I feel like Wilson just brings more to the table. He also just help bring them a Stanley Cup, which will likely be another piece his agent will bring forward during negotiations. With your comparison, I can see where you're coming from on the number, but I just feel like Wilson has much more to offer than Jenner. I might be taking the "what have you done for me lately" approach, but I would be happy for my team to give Wilson a 5x5 contract. He can play anywhere in the lineup, kills penalties, and brings something that Washington doesn't have at all without him. From my perspective, if guys like Antoine Roussel and Jay Beagle are getting 4 year deals for 3mil/season, there's no reason Wilson shouldn't be getting five. I realize those are consensus over-payments, but just another something to think about. I would personally put Wilson somewhere in the range of 4.5-5.25/season for 4-5 years.

Easy pass on almost all of those trades. You're way overvaluing Detroit's assets, especially the ones with brutal contracts (i.e,. Helm, Abdelkader, Krownall, etc.) Asking EDM to give up a dman they've waited on to become a top pairing guy, as well as their 2C they've locked up for 8 years isn't going to happen unless you're talking Cholowski and one of Mantha or Larkin.

I think you'd get a first and mediocre prospect in a Patches deal at this point. MTL has dug themselves an even bigger hole than the Karlsson situation in Ottawa, and Patches doesn't have near the value Karl does. I think MTL would be good to get a 1st rounder and a mid-level prospect out of a deal like this

Team Canada 2020?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>alwaysnextyear</b></div><div>There's always a ton of debate when it comes to a best-on-best Team Canada roster, but you've done well here I think. This far away (1 year, 7 months?) it's interesting speculation because some of the older guys could conceivably see some significant regression in their game while younger guys like Barzal or Ekblad could step up even more. I always want to go younger with these teams, but the TC brass generally like the vets, even if they're not in their prime anymore.
To me the biggest question mark on your roster is the goaltending. Holtby struggled all year until the playoffs, and will Price ever be the same?</div></div>
Completely agree. I'd love to see a youth movement, but I feel like that might be more of a 2022 Olympics or 2024 World Cup move. Only time will tell. Very good point on goaltending. For me, It's those guys' spots to lose. I would think they would both be better than Fleury over the next year and a half. When they're on, there's no other CDN goalie that can come close. However, who knows what their games will look like 2 years' time. For me, it would take a lot for guys like Jones, Talbot, Murray, or Allen to take over. Carter Hart might turn into a stud, but that's a long ways away.I don't see Dubnyk, Crawford or Mike Smith's game going anywhere but downhill if anything over that time frame.
