hometown kids and quick fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Herms17</b></div><div>he turned down 7.5 from the blues...why does he take 7 million here?</div></div>
im not saying he would take it but toronto could get away with loading the signing bonuses which Stl didnt want to do, essentially making his contract almost lockout/buyout proof.
also i could be wrong but i thought i read somewhere he was willing to take a little less to come home but again i could very much so be wrong.

i dont disagree but the other team needs to want to make the trade. and the teams that would have wanted him would be a late 1st anyways.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>What did you expect him to do? Realistically his hands are tied behind his back more than the average fan knows. Unless he coulda found a hockey deal (money and term in for money and term out) there's not really much more he coulda done. He was smart to not sell low on some pending UFA's and mail the season in</div></div>
agreed here

i get it but if you undersell on him, and their defense is already bad enough, while they still have a chance to make playoffs. you would be sending a really bad message we have seen what the team can do if they play well, they just have to buckle down and decide if they are going to play that way consistently, in the last week they had 2 embarrassments of a game and their best game of their year. the team just needs to be consistent.

He's not even close to as good as Dermott who is younger and is going to be way better.</div></div>
so what your saying is Dermott for hall?

Martinez Muzzin duo returns
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hanson493</b></div><div>why because im making an actual decent trade for the team sending away the talent? established playoff performer. Decent player. if leafs gave up a 1 first, durzi, and grundstrom for muzzin. you can expect similar going back for martinez. seeing how its the exact same teams in subsequent years. This is a logical trade scenario. You still dont know what sandin is in the nhl. Leafs fans ready to put this guy in the hall after 6 nhl games.</div></div>
be a very cold day in hell if sandin gets moved anywhere let alone for Martinez, it was an over pay for muzzin, but either way you dont trade your best prospect, for a guy with 2 year left and will be 34 by the end of it vs cost control and high potential. unless your blown away in the offer.

Keeping Strome Georgie Tony D and Lemmy
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>Keeping Georgiev means doing the right thing: move Heaven and Earth to get Hank his cup win and move forward with both young, quality goaltenders. Colorado comes to mind: they can afford a 50%-retained Lundqvist for the final year of his deal, and they're a damn good team now.
Strome is not a guy you want playing #2C long-term. He's a career #3C that's been overperforming right when he's due for a raise. He's absolutely a piece you move at the deadline to increase draft capital. If the Blackhawks cannot get out of their salary cap hell by the draft, there's an argument to be made for the Rangers trading this year's high 1st Round Pick and a selection of prospects to pull Dylan Strome out of Chicago. If you needed a capable #2C or a guy that could grow to become a #1C, he might be your guy.</div></div>
your not wrong but all signs point to hank wanting to retire as a ranger

they could always just retain more on one, if they can only retain 2 at a time they already are on hall, so i would go to 2.5m on simmonds and not sure how the rest would work.

If dermott can play well with Holl i wouldnt resign muzzin and i would have sanding and liligren together on the 3rd pairing and then holl and dermott and you just need 1 solid RHD or you can try, and play dermott with reilly if you keep muzzin to play with holl

Honestly thats on me i actually really like how Holl has been playing this year and missed him on the UFA screen.
I think if im Toronto i am trying to sign him 2 years 1.1 million asap so they can lock him up a bit. he has actually played really well in a shut down role.

my bad, early morning. thank god for spell check or i would look even stupider. he may but at 9 over 7 may be worth it as a free agent. if they trade for him this season it would be different, but i think that depends on if they let the leafs negotiate before a trade because at that point it would be nylander going the other way even though thats a more than unpopular opinion on here

Delayed a year

I do agree as well, being from the area for him as well as him being in his final year of his contract, they may be able to give him the ability to decide, as he could always let ottawa trade him and come back in the off season, he would be ufa and he can still sign for 7 years. i think it is a difficult decision for both reasons, to decide what to do with him. i still think of him as middle 6 shut down center offense is a bonus at this point. im sure someone will come knocking with a pretty enticing offer for ottawa to really consider.
but who really knows.

Not saying it's impossible...just not getting the impression that Plan A is to move him out. Like Zaitsev, I think he's about $750k-$1m overpaid at $4.5 (if that's the #)..but at least we're not locked into a long term deal.</div></div>
Agreed on this, also if you play him with a guy like Muzzin, they could potentially be a real solid pairing, look what Muzzin did with Zaitsev in the playoffs. could be a solid option for defensive zone draws/penalty kills. Barrie w/ Rielly has real potential to be a top pairing in the league and having dermott/ whoever on the 3rd pairing could be good aswell.

I would make this trade in a heartbeat i think if im toronto, aberg isnt terrible and to move on from arguably 8+mil in cap for $2,593,750 on spurgeon and an rfa thatll sign around 1 mill maybe play with the picks a bit but id say thats pretty fair.
Rather lose kappy then all of the grit we have left up front in kadri lol

im curious on why you believe that Laine is still worth more than connor, he has shown that he is an extremely streaky player, and isnt that effective 5 v 5. im not against it and after last year i would have been in the same boat, but after this year i think it changed.

That was a horrible game
I can agree with marincin and holl, but everyone always rips on hainsey but he is in the top 5 in plus minus in the league. he doesent put up a ton of points but hes not a liability back there as much as people think. am i saying he should be playing 20 mins a night no but if you keep him around for 10 mins a night with pks and stuff hes fine, would be worth it to resign him if hes willing to sign for 1mil next season since SAndin and liligren arent quite ready. just putting it out there.

Marner should get paid
I think that if marner is willing to sign 8 x 11 then you sign it and run, he is only going to get better, he was around .80 p/gm his last 2 years and this year its 1.2 p/gm if he stays at this pace for the next 8 years he would be an absolute steal at the back end of this contract.
Do i think Kuch is better than marner yes, but i also think that saving in taxes in Tampa never hurts and waking up on a day off in december and being able to play golf has its perks as well, i get that marner is a hometown kid and always loved the leafs, but it will be interesting where it goes from here.
