If Buffalo drafted optimally 2016 - Current
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Why this again man? I don’t like these at all! Literally every team in the NHL could do this and be a better team if they courage went back now, and redrafted. If it was a redraft, Buffalo wouldn’t get Zegras, New York would. They need a good center man, I bet you, they would’ve picked him. So yes, this thing is horrible, because you probably wouldn’t get a lot of those played, as the teams before would’ve picked them. Also, if they drafted that well, Eichel wouldn’t have requested a trade, and they wouldn’t have signed Skinner to that huge deal. After they drafted some guys, they wouldn’t get continuous top 5 picks to get the others, because they probably would’ve been better and did better signings.</div></div>
Because I thought it would be fun to look at the lines and see what others thought ... I didn't think it was hurting anybody to share it.
I understand that there is uncertainty with drafts. 2019 - the Sabres needed a C they took a C in Cozens and he will fill the need. But I thought it was fun to explore the option of Zegras, Tkachuk, etc.

I agree. I just thought it would be fun to look at how it would be if the Sabres drafted Zegras instead of Cozens, Tkachuk instead of Dahlin, etc etc.

TAKING THE BEST CHL PLAYER AVAILABLE BASED ON DRAFT YEAR PTS 2013
It was just a fun exercise where I wanted to see how the draft would have looked if all GM's who took a CHL Forward just picked based on their PPG pace in their draft year.
Basically, can we identify picks that would have been better if the GM decided to not overthink and just pick the best scoring F (Mantha over Lazar? Hartman over Gauthier?) and GM's that were able to outsmart raw stats and make a better selection despite being less productive (MacKinnon over Drouin)

How did Suzuki go this low?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>A_Habs_fan</b></div><div>Glass, Suzuki and Yamamoto all had similar points in the same amount of CHL games, however they are separated by many spots, this likely comes down to upside and the flags in each of the player's games</div></div>
So, obviously there's reason for the jump between some - being non CHL forwards which was all I was comparing .... but for fun lets look at picks 9-13. 4/5 were CHL forwards. Of those, Suzuki was far and beyond the best player. I don't know how 3 GM's looked at Suzuki and the player they took and said, "hmm, we'll take the other guy".
I'm honestly going to take a look at another NHL draft (2018, 2016) and see how things would have gone if GM's would have stopped overthinking

This is how it shouldve gone
I agree with picks 1 and 2 ... but I don't know how you could argue that Taylor hall slips below 3.
1) I don't think it's realistic to suggest Stone would have ever jumped to 3. He had 28 points in his draft year and was a terrible skater. I understand that he's a top 3 player from that draft in 2021 but I always hate when players jump 200 spots in re-drafts. It just wouldn't have happened.
2) Taylor hall is still second in draft class scoring, ahead of Skinner both by raw points and points per game. I know he's had his issues but I honestly can't see why he would drop below 3rd OA

You don't think Suzuki, Toffoli, Caufield is a Second Line?
Maybe I should have rephrased. I view these second lines as "Championship second lines". I don't think Toffoli-Suzuki-Caufield is a first line on the Leafs, Lightning, Bruins .... etc. But the other 2 are certainly second lines on those teams.

If Bergevin would have drafted BPA in 2018
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>justaBoss</b></div><div>What makes you think Canes wouldn't have tendered an offer sheet for Tkachuk too?
Not to mention that if MTL had picked a winger in 2018, there's a likelihood that Habs wouldn't have drafted Caufield in 2019. Even the Pacioretty trade might've never happened, if for instance Bergevin had wanted to retain Patches to mentor Tkachuk to become that scoring winger and future captain of that team.
There's always so many things to consider in these hindsight posts...</div></div>
They might have. But that's an easy match. Canes OS Tkachuk for 8M? Fine, I'll match. The issue with KK is you don't want to match for 6.1, it just isn't worth it.
Besides, Caufield was still the BPA. That was still the good pick. The issue I have is drafting based on position. That needs to stop.

Logan Stankoven. I think size held his pick back but I believe he'll be an Elite top 6 sniper.

I think any trade involving marner needs to happen and will be perceived as a "bad trade".... but he needs to go. The contract just doesn't work.
I think dubas needs to Moneyball it. How to move 11M for 3-4 guys that can combine to the same production that Marner had,

On who's behalf? You don't think Seattle pays a bottom 4 D, a third line F (Fischer), a second line F with one year left (McCann), a struggling middle 6 F (Domi) and a back up goalie for a top 5 winger with term who can be the face of the franchise? I think they might.
Quality >> Quantity ... unless you're the Leafs and need to re distribute their cap.

The Coyotes don't want a bunch of crap.
The way the Leafs pry Garland & Kuemper @ .5 away from ARZ is with one of Sandin or Robertson, and I don't know if the leafs are really in the position to be giving up the last of the futures the have.

I think they're getting 3/4 of the pieces they were after.
1) A future top, top line winger in Lafrenière
2) A good top 4 D in Schneider
3) A probably mid-late round first rounder next year.
They also get DeAngelo who, despite personal issues ... can definitely play - and Buffalo can use players. The third was the incentive to take DeAngelo

Again, there's lots of time to change and live up to expectation. That being said, from what was shown in the D+1 season (as that's all we have to work with for a Re-Draft), Stutzle, Lafreniere, Lundel, Perfetti and Drysdale showed to be better performers.

2008 Re Draft (+/- 10)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cowling</b></div><div>whats the point of max 10</div></div>
The point of max 10 is to try to incorporate some realism into a re-draft. For example, in a 2012 re-draft, Yakupov probably doesn't go in the first round. That wouldn't be a realistic re-draft, as he was the consensus number one. No amount of additional scouting would have determined that Yakupov would be a bust, and he would have been taken within the top 10 still. I wanted to incorporate some of that into the re-draft process

Thanks. I also just think its a better way to do a re-draft. Like, yeah everyone knows Point would have gone top 3 in 2014 ... but that isn't a realistic view of a re-draft. It would have never happened. Players moving within 10 of their actual draft spot? Totally realistic

I love the idea of capping the growth of someone's draft position to 10.
Makes this re-draft a realistic re-draft ... instead of saying that (for example) Kucherov should have gone #1 in 2011 when he was passed over by every team
