Leafs Proposal 4 - Farewell Marner and Willie
CAR can't afford that, and even if they did they'd easily decline.
FLA isn't interested.
CGY trade's interesting though.

This may be the worst Carolina proposal I have seen on here and that is saying a lot with the Toronto ones.

Hard to believe it was 1-for-1. TOR would have to add something. If that was it, Dubas is a clown :tearsofjoy

for Riley
No reason for Detroit to make that deal IMO ... Laine is great but I think that's too much. Hamilton is a top pairing d-man and Bokk, last I checked, is expected to be a top 6 (or at least top 9) NHL forward, and then add Dzingel, Bean, and a 1st, and I don't think McKenzie and a 3rd is enough to even it out. Just my opinion.

Id rather trade the 13th pick if Askarov isnt there
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>etpeck</b></div><div>Yeah i do not see detroit trading Mantha. I was just saying if they were to trade him that Necas is an unreasonable ask. Detroit needs more good players not less so trading your 2nd best player who is still young wouldn't make sense unless there was a big contract issue.</div></div>
Nope you understood what I was doing, we aren't trading him, people keep asking, so basically I just make it nearly impossible for a team to get him because it's unrealistic. Mantha for necas + bean + 13th overall, we would have to do it, carolina however would never do it. That's how I make my point of we aren't trading him

Pass on trading the 13OA. Take a good forward or trade down and get more darts.

Nice Easy Off-Season Year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>villenash</b></div><div>The Seattle pick of Skjei really helps to make it all come together. Definitely doable when you can snag that extra $5m+ of cap space. I don't think any of these deals are that crazy - the sheer number of moves and offersheets is, but the deals themselves are not too far-fetched. The value is fair for the most part on both sides, with the Mikheyev OS being the only suspect deal (maybe the Bean, Driedger, and Geekie contracts are a little light as well).
If Necas is ready to be a legit 2C, this team is dirty - back-to-back cups dirty.</div></div>
If Driedger becomes starter caliber or Makiniemi/Kochetkov is ready for starter/back-up roles.. we could then allocate Kuemper’s $4.5M to Necas on a bridge deal and fill holes or make upgrades. The Mikeyev OS is light, and I am sure TOR wold match it but I think he would be a great addition to our middle six, even without all these other moves. Anyways this was just a thought experiment. It would be sick to have all these young top talents locked in the top-6 and the grit, size and secondary scoring of the bottom-6. And of course the D is solid while the cap leaves room for improvements if needed. A half decade of cup runs minimum.

Yea because the Canes best trade asset getting futures and 1yr of Andersen is overpayment when the team is looking for a top 6 fwd.

Canes side of a pesce Nylander deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>etpeck</b></div><div>Agree on all of that 100%. I’m not really sure I’m in favor of the pesce Nylander trade either I jsut wanted to see what it would look like. I don’t think vatanen is the answer either but he is a guy the organization is familiar with. I disagree with ur assessment that he is only a third pairing guy, but I think the canes would be better served with a more defensive guy</div></div>
yeah, that makes sense. It's not a knock on Nylander, he would be a great addition to top 6.

The first year we have 3 options:
Make him 7th D
Eat a good portion of his salary to flip him (johnson at half + rust = Nino’s cap hit)
Buy him out. (Rust + Johnson bought out is under Nino year 1 but slightly over year 2)
Then year 2 we can try options 2 and 3 again.

I'm usually right with you on virtually all of your comments, but I think you're ignoring the Kapanen trade. If a 23-year-old who hasn't reached his peak yet can fetch the 15th overall, last year's second-rounder and a bottom-6 roster forward, Saad is worth a first plus, too even if Pittsburgh overpaid dramatically.

Marner doesnt work
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hidalgo</b></div><div>Pesce is a great player but I don’t think Dubas has any interest in trading Marner unless he’s getting a star player back, regardless of what his cap hit is. Just has too much upside. Both teams are best to just hold onto their guys.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>etpeck</b></div><div>Yeah I agree 100%. This deal isn’t my idea, I saw several other threads with it or something very similar. Marner is a great player but I agree that it doesn’t make sense either way</div></div>
Could just me (regardless of whatever my thoughts are on the trade), but I think Pesce is a “star” in a different way. A defensive star, similar to players like Brodin; a player whose under appreciated due to lack of points. Maybe a better example would be old Vlasic. Vlasic from the past would make team Canada consistently over other high stock names and people would think Vlasic didn’t belong. But Vlasic, like Brodin and Pesce bring so much more to the table then the first glance. Pesce is behind Slavin who’s establishing his name amounts the best and Hamilton who had a solid year.
To be clear I agree Toronto would wait for someone to overpay, but if it was Pesce + 1st + good prospect coming back I’d do it in a heartbeat

EDIT: just scrapped that deal and replaced it with a Marner for Seth Jones kind of deal instead.
