What you’re asking is 5M AAV, a retention slot for 2 years, and 3.75M cash for someone who isn’t going to contribute to Detroit. For reference look up how much Marleau’s dead space cost Toronto or compare the Staal deal to what you’re proposing.</div></div>
Yes i understand that, but the marleau deal the cap hit had to all be absorbed by a team in one season which raises the price significantly. The 2.5 for 2 seasons has no effect on detroit's cap as they wont be near the limit in the 2 years. If it doesnt work because detroit will only take a first so be it, but i maintain that is to rich on an ask

The way i looked at it was you paid a 3rd last year and you got 1 year of the player + a 2nd to take a small cap hit for the next 4 years

Detroit will decline for anything less than a 1st.</div></div>
I think a 1st is just way too steep of an ask. Maybe i would add a B prospect to the deal or something. If the cost is a 1st it just doesnt make sense for the canes, it is way to big of a risk for the canes

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BStinson</b></div><div>That’s not 2.5M I’m retention. It’s 5M in retention since it’s 2 years plus the contract is backloaded so you’d be looking at a first round pick to facilitate that from a third party.</div></div>
The price for detroit to take a total of 5 mil cap hit from mark staal last year was a 2nd. The cap hit for tarasenko is spread across 2 years so i think a 2nd is fair in this instance

What would the trade look like if.....and/or,
1. No retained salary
2. Bean is included
3. UFA rights to Hakanpaa</div></div>
What if the retention was dropped to 500k and the 4th was upgraded to a 3rd

Nino isnt a cap dump and you dont even need to move him. Martinook isnt coming back, replace him with an elc (drury). Foegele will also be traded so that opens up even more cap. With that space you can fit nino.

The other option would be to do a deal with tarasenko 2 mil retained, and go after Martinez as a UFA. I am a big fan of dunn as well, so i do think he would be a great addition

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vikhodush</b></div><div>Problem with that is STL very likely moves Dunn prior to ED otherwise he’ll probably be the one taken. Guess you could deal with Seattle if that’s the case but in general I’m weary of dealing with Seattle if I’m the canes. I know Francis isn’t in the business of helping any teams but I’d imagine he’ll take a harder line with us versus any other team</div></div>
Yeah that is probably the case. Maybe the best bet is to just leave dunn out of the trade and just sign a UFA to play LD on the 2nd pair. Im actually going to edit the team tell me what you think

The Blue line isnt really stacked anymore. Dunn would be a direct replacement for Skjei

Would imagine if both are available he’d go with Bean and I could see him not making any deals with Carolina bc of how things ended, similar to McPhee and the caps.
If that happens I guess trade Skjei for assets and find a cheaper replacement, may also not be able to resign mcginn so you can use that cap space.
All in all I like the look of this team and think it’s a pretty realistic offseason.</div></div>
I was doing the the STL trade with the assumption it was after the expansion draft, thus skjei is the only one left exposed. If its before then, i would give Seattle a pick to take skjei

Canes Should Go For It
I do not like the trochek trade. The canes spent years looking for a 2C and they finally found one. If they were going to trade him it would need to be a much bigger return than a middle 6 winger and a mid round pick. The Tarasenko deal is tough because the canes are taking on so much cap, i know they get rid of gardiner but Tarasenko at full cap and 1/2 retained nino is alot of money. I dont hate the idea of getting tarasenko but my offer would exceed foegele and a 1st. Martinook is not getting 3.5 and he isnt going to get anything from the canes.

That’s more than i would be willing to give up for gourde. Tampa has no leverage they have to move out a ton of money. I’d do it if you removed the first probably

Wishful Thinking
Honestly I think you have just done too much and as a result the contracts are all to cheap. Getting all 3 of debrusk, Coleman, and Hyman is unnecessary. I’d say go 1 of the 3 and then fill in with a contract like McGinn at 2.5ish and maybe drury. Push some of that money towards Martinez and the goalies

Yeah bean was very good at the start of the season and then he faded as the season went on. No question skjei is better now but exposing him could also open over 5 mil on cap space. Either way, the canes d core will look much different next year assuming Hamilton leaves

Don’t think the offer to the canes is unreasonable. I could see them doing it instead of exposing bean in the expansion draft. I however think they will expose skjei

What is Tatar going to get
I think a 1-2 year deal around 4 mil aav makes sense for a team and the player. If I was Tatar I’d be looking for a team who needs some added scoring depth in the middle 6. He could have a good year or 2 and get one final contract
