Would CHI consider this

Yes, Lilypad is younger and obviously fits the rebuild window better. But that alone doesn't make this a trade the Hawks "can't refuse". The Hawks do not make this deal. The Hawks need a veteran, stay at home partner on the their 2nd pair to continue mentoring 20 y.o. Kevin Korchinski, former #7 overall pick and future likely top pair guy. And I'm not going to debate Lilypad's ability or upside. But he's not the type of D man the Hawks want to build around on their blue line. They are looking to have a big, physical, hard to play against D - similar to Vegas. And if the Hawks were to make Murphy available at 50% retained with two years left on his deal, the Hawks get better offers than a 1 for 1 swap for Lilypad. So that alone makes it an easy pass for the Hawks.

I almost guarantee if this was offered to your GM he would jump at it!</div></div>
No, it lessons the value for Toronto if the player is not under contract...that's just a simple fact. It puts the burden of Chicago's back office having to negotiate an agreement...time is money
I almost guarantee, as others are saying to you as well with a strong track record on here, Chicago says no 1 for 1, with retention and for a player not under a current contract.
Moving on

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FireShanahanTrelivingKeefe</b></div><div>Love people who comment like they are smart with absolutely nothing to back up their opinion!
CHI would be stupid to value a 31 year old over a 24 year old when they are rebuilding!</div></div>
You miss the point and that rebuilding teams need leadership roles and especially on defense where Chicago is stacked with young players and prospects and only have Murphy and Jones to manage the 4 other roles.
Further, Lillypad doesn't move the needle for Chicago's rebuild, and his market value isn't one for one with Murphy especially with retention. Making matters worse, although he's a RFA, he's not under contract either. Chicago doesn't do this deal...sorry

Murphy is worth more than Lillypad and provides a ton of leadership to the locker-room in Chicago. We need a locked-down stay at home physical defender as well to balance the young kids. While something may be able to happen around these two players, it is unlikely Chicago views these as even and even less so with retention.

Rebuild
CHI declines. If CHI is going to spend like that, it will be for a player who is at least 2 years younger. Chances are, by the time CHI is truly ready to contend, Ehlers will be a shell of his current self. I like Ehlers a lot, but this just isn't a move a rebuilding team makes.

Ehlers is worth that to some team but Chicago isn't at that point yet.

What will the Sens do in the off season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>StutzlesNumber1Fan</b></div><div>I don't think anyone really wants to, we just don't trust him to stay healthy and he cost 8M$ which could be used elsewhere. Ideally he is just healthy and can play 70+ games but that doesn't seem to be realistic anymore and we want to make the playoffs asap so the cap space is huge if we could use it elsewhere.</div></div>
It is for this very reason that CHI should never pay these kinds of assets for him.
With 6 years left on his deal, I doubt CHI would even take his contract if they were being paid 1st round picks to do so, let alone pay a 1st round pick plus for him. It's too big of a risk for everyone.

That is way too much for Raymond. Also, Johanssen, Berggren, and Veleno aren't worth a whole lot. So, they don't justify overpaying this much. I'd be interested in Gibson or ASP LONG before Johanssen.

I'm going to agree w/ <a href="/users/exo2769" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@exo2769</a> and <a href="/users/Wadejos123" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@Wadejos123</a> to a point. I think the Hawks do decline that trade as proposed. Hawks won't value Johansson enough to pay anything for him in this deal. Another young LD is the last thing the Hawks need. And Veleno probably falls into the same boat. Hawks have 4 solid prospects who project as likely 3C's in the next couple of years. Don't see Veleno as a player that the Hawks would value that much either. But a trade built around Raymond and Berggren would probably interest the Hawks. Not for two 1st's and two 2nd's, but maybe the two 1st's?

Maybe if you scrap the picks going to Toronto you could get the Hawks to accept. Maybe.

I don't see Davidson plugging up that many holes for the young guys, especially with all these deals being multi year this is just way too much imo

lol. I was literally just building an ACGM with almost the same exact proposals. I don't think this is too much at all, though. Something like this coincides with what KD has stated in his exit interview about improving the team, while still maintaining some of the more important guidelines he has laid out for the rebuild over the last two years.
Aside from Pesce (which is far too much salary and term, imo) you have brought in some veteran players on short term deals, made the NHL club more competitive, created roster competition for the young guys who may or may not need more development time in the AHL (and are still waiver exempt and shouldn't just be handed roster spots), and brings in more/higher-quality draft capital. All while bringing in more guys who are not injury prone, and who, presumably, are only worried about themselves and their next contracts. They are all guys who can motivate a locker room, take orders and play within a system, and are great team first guys, aside from maybe Mikheyev.
I think as far as Mikheyev goes, though, I would rather just re-sign Anderson. We don't NEED the extra 2nd round pick and Anderson has been fantastic. And for Pesce, I think for $6.5 x 5, we can probably do better than him, or just do something shorter term. Not that he isn't serviceable, but he has shown signs of decline and 5 years is a long time, especially for that amount. That contract has some potential to look pretty bad pretty quickly.

I woiuld prefer the hawks only make one of these types of moves (I definitely dont hate the idea of picking up anders lee). I think what Jones and Foligno said during their exit interviews is important - we need to have vets that actually want to be here and buy into trying to rebuild the blackhawks. I think picking up the worst contracts from playoff teams is a generally not a great way to get a guy that cares about the project in Chicago. Theres plenty of good veteran presence that will be available in free agency. I'd rather us target guys a little more intentionally. We dont really need the extra picks anyway.
