The hawks will not acquire Mitch Marner

Created by: Kyle_Davidson

Initial Creation Date: Apr. 28, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
However, if they did then this would be the upper end of what I am okay with. Naturally the trade is without an extension. I’m sure the leafs would ask about Jones, but I think he is currently too valuable to the hawks and is probably unwilling to go to Toronto anyways.

I don’t consider this a strong offer for Marner, and that is probably indicative of how I would rather let the leafs and Marner sort this out themselves. As a fallback I’ll say this: add picks to either side as needed 😎

Trades
CHI
  1. Marner, Mitchell
Additional Details:
I don’t believe that Toronto will get another 100 pt player for Marner considering the narrative that sounds him including his UFA status and controversial playoffs. In this trade I would argue they are getting players who will provide probably 40-50 in Reichel, 30-40 for Kaiser, and solid D from Murphy.
TOR
  1. Kaiser, Wyatt
  2. Murphy, Connor
  3. Reichel, Lukas [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Lukas had an up and down season but showed really well towards the end of the season. I still believe in his potential to be a top 6 player in the NHL, but I believe his ability to step right into the leafs lineup would be important for Toronto.

Kaiser’s case is similar to Reichel, although I think there was less pressure and expectations placed on him this year being a ~first year pro. He is the prototypical puck-moving swift-skating defenseman that the leafs seem to be lacking based on my viewing of their games.

I think in both Reichel and Kaisers cases their value in a trade like this depends greatly on what the leafs scouts think of them. For leafs fans who might not be familiar, I think Reichel be placed in a middle six role and Kaiser could probably play in a number 4 spot.

Connor Murphys inclusion may be an afterthought after what I wrote about the prospects, but he would serve as a steady presence for Toronto’s team.

Disclaimer: My preference is not to acquire Mitch Marner, at least through trade THIS offseason, so if it doesn’t seem like enough you are probably correct and know why I’m not offering so much.

Every non leaf fan right now. We don't want Marner.....unless we can get him for a monumentally bad deal that crushes leaf fans.

Considering where the Blackhawks are in their rebuild I'm sure you can appreciate how our situation is different. I actually would prefer that the hawks wait a year and try to get him in free agency if at all. In any case, I do think this offer is the best the hawks can do to fit the leafs potential needs. Sure, I could offer you a first round pick this year or next, I could offer a prospect that is a couple years away, but what good is that for the leafs? They need help now, and the only way the hawks could do that is by offering young NHL ready players.

Every Leafs fan...Marner sucks, but it'll be Bedard Korchinski and your next 7 1sts unprotected.

I'd just let Marner stay in TOR. Like you've mentioned. Sign UFAs. Don't give up prospects at this point. Stay the course!

Exactly, I am not advocating for this move whatsoever, but naturally with how the playoffs have gone for Toronto I think its worth exploring.

Without an extension in place, I'm not interested in Marner at all. Whatever the cost is will be too much. I wouldn't make this deal to be honest.

I don't care what anyone's "reasons" are. The consensus on this site is Marner sucks and is worthless.

That is about as stupid a statement as can be expected on this site.

Mine was intentionally stupid to make a point. That's how Leafs fans sound right now. Did you really think (7) 1st wasn't sarcasm?

Don't bully him, his team's season is ending on Tuesday.

For enough, but to be fair. I actually want the Leafs to win. I don't care for BOS too much.
