Habs have that luxury. They might be upgrades on Gologoski, Merrill and/or Bogosian as early as next year. But thank you for your perspective.</div></div>
None of the 3 defensemen you named are 2nd pairing defensemen though. The only reason any of them moved up the lineup was due to injuries up the lineup (Spurgeon and Brodin) and our lack of cap room to do anything else. I think almost any Minnesota fan would prefer to see what Judd Brackett can do with a pick in the top half of the draft than take on what will be a 23 and a 24 year old who MAY have 2nd pairing upside. Our competitive window is more aligned with the draft pick maturing than it is with a 24 year old.
I can't imagine this would have been the best offer Guerin has gotten for a 1st round pick since taking over the team in 2019 and he has yet to trade one yet (except when we moved up in the 2020 1st round). I don't see this package changing that trend.

Even if he did have value, the last thing we need is another 5'9" forward. We're already the shortest and lightest team in the league. We have Rossi and Zuccarello in our top 6 at or below 5'9". We need to get bigger, not smaller.

Sens Offseason
You say that you think we may need to dump Middleton for cap reasons, but then have us replace him with someone who costs $550k more plus a "depth forward" we don't really need or have a roster spot for? How does any of that make sense? Middleton is already a great compliment to Spurgeon plus they have excellent chemistry. Even if we dropped the 1st and 2nd, I still don't think this makes sense for Minnesota.

Last Year of Cap Hell
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>Faber next deal will eat up a large portion of that 14 mil in dead money honestly so it’s not the cap he’ll you think it is.
At best you add 1 more mid level top 6 forward next year and resign Faber and that savings is gone.</div></div>
Figure the cap goes up to $92 million by summer 2025. That's an increase of $8.5 million which would cover the entirety of Faber's raise. If Kaprizov wants $12 million to stay, that's only $3 million of the $13.07 million in dead money coming off the books ($14.74 million drops to $1.67 million). We'll still have $10 million to work with to improve the team. We won't be near the cap floor, but we also won't be forced to do insane cap gymnastics or hope that short term injuries are long term enough for LTIR just so we can function like we had to do this season.

Zuccarello is a UFA in 2026, not 2025. He was under contract this year then signed a 2 year extension during training camp so he still has 2 years of control left.

How many Wild games do you watch? He's been solid for us all year playing 17+ minutes per night and adds some size we lack on the back end. He's had to move up the lineup a bit with all our injuries this season and hasn't been out of place.

Hartman has a NMC he is unlikely to waive. We also have (very likely) a top 10 pick this year which we aren't willing to move. This trade doesn't make sense for Minnesota.

Copying the Blue Print from Last Season
Minnesota isn't buying this year. Why would we give away picks when we are 8 points out of a playoff spot? We will very likely be further away at the actual deadline since we only have 1 game before the deadline and both wildcard teams have 2 games. We could very easily be 12 points out of the playoffs with just 19 games to go.

What I am saying is this is a steal for us to get rid of Merrill without having to give up additional assets or completely devalue Duhaime. That's fair for Duhaime and you giving us a pick for Merrill is borderline criminal. Most Minnesota fans view future considerations as an optimistic return for Merrill.

New found Winning pieces
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MajesticWalrus</b></div><div>Ill admit it could definitely take another sweetener but there's no bad players going the other way. Jarry is great and joseph can definitely turn into something, he's shown he's one of the fastest skaters in the league too. Along with high picks.
Minnesota on the other hand, it could be argued fluery is the lowest of value in this deal due to contract and performance.</div></div>
Brodin isn't available and if he was, we sure as hell wouldn't be retaining 50% for 4+ years in exchange for a goalie, an unimpressive defenseman who "can definitely turn into somebody" and 2 picks in 2026. That's insane.
Fleury is almost completely irrelevant to my decision here. Take him out and it wouldn't change anything. We already have $14.74 million in dead cap space this year and next. You're proposing we give you our top shutdown defenseman and make it $17.74 million in dead cap. Jarry isn't bad, but he isn't cheap (remember the dead cap?) and he's signed to term when we have our goalie of the future (Wallstedt) ready to make the jump to the NHL very soon. POJ is playing 13 minutes with uninspiring defensive metrics. The 2 picks lose a lot of value being that far off. Unless you go into a full burn it to the ground rebuild, which I doubt happens, those picks won't be particularly early either.
In other words, this trade makes absolutely no sense from Minnesota's perspective and gets shut down immediately.
