Maybe he likes the LA lifestyle? LA actually has a lot of pull when it comes to free agents bc its LA lol. Regardless of how bad we are.
Also what winning team has an additional 8.5M to spend on a dman that is in the market for a player like that?
Do you think Boston will be able to afford to resign him if he wants that kind of money?</div></div>
He loves Boston, they love him. My guess he signs with B’s for 5-6 years for 7 to 7.5.

Trade Deadline

Teams can be over the cap at the the TDL.
1. 81.5M is only the cap at the beginning of the season that every team has to be compliant with on day 1. The cap is adjusted/recalculated every single day.
2. Over the season teams pseudo accrue cap space for every day they are under the cap. How it actually works, a percentage of players contract (and cap hit) are paid off daily so at the TDL there are roughly 40 days left in the season. So if a team acquires a olayer at the Trade Deadline that players cap hit is divided by the total number of days in the season (180 something) then multiplied by the remaining days in the season (40 something).

Nelson , interesting lol. He’s really cemented himself as a solid 2C. Arguably the best defensive forward on the islanders and a consistent 20 goal scorer

As for Boychuck, i think moving him would be hard but not impossible. Definitely will require the Isles to take back a big contract.
Any scenaruo where Isles move Boychuck and remove all cap from the deal is probably nil. It'll most likely be a Lucic for Neal type deal. All depends on who gets Neal and who gets Lucic. Lol</div></div>
I don't know if moving Boychuk would require a Lucic/Neal type scenario. Boychuk is still a serviceable 3rd pairing Defenseman and at a reduced cost (Isles retain 2-3m) could probably land the Isles a 3rd or 4th round pick for him. A team like EDM, who needs help on the RHD side, should be all over JB. Only issue with JB is, he has a M-NTC in which he lists 8 teams he CAN be traded to... with the way the Isles are playing right now, I can't see him waiving he NTC so that only leaves 8 teams Lou can work with.

Ladd will probably get to the point that he will sit on LTIR. The islanders aren't starved for cap space right now anyway.
As for boychuk... I think he could get a small return from a team if his contract is retained. He's still an NHL defenseman.

I wish the islanders would just bury him in the AHL. He does not deserve to be up with the big club. He’s played 23 NHL games in the last 500 days.

In the beginning of the season he was almost a point per game player while he was on the 2nd line. If a team interested in him wants the best out of him they need to play him in the top 6. Although the return is questionable, I have no doubt a team willing to gamble on him will be happy with the outcome.</div></div>
The return was what I was questioning. I have no doubt if kovi puts up decent numbers at deadline someone will want him.

Toffoli for Mayfield makes some sense for them.</div></div>
Isles would do Toffoli for picks and prospects, but not for Mayfield this season. Mayfield will most likely be traded in the off-season if Boychuk can't be moved. Honestly, Boychuk has been so good this year, that I don't think it's that bad to keep him through next year.

If the islanders are moving mayfield, they’d want someone who can play on the 2nd line, even if they had to add. Because toffoli doesn’t have term and will be a UFA on July 1st , I think a mayfield for toffoli + 4th makes sense

In my eyes Mayfield is a great shutdown dman on a phenomenal contract. I don't really think the Isles would be interested in giving him up at all unless if the other team, in this case the Kings, were to overpay. I could be wrong of course, but that's just how I see it lol

MTL would need at least an A level prospect and 1st round pick to move Drouin. Another option would be a player of similar value in return. This isn't close to enough.
Also, he's had a hot start this season and is unlikely to be traded at this point since the Habs are trying to make the playoffs.

Extremely lopsided trades (drouin mainly and Mayfield kinda, but idk if you’ll get a 2nd for Ilya at all, but certainly not from NYI, they have enough waste of space old guys they’re waiting to get rid of)
