In my eyes Mayfield is a great shutdown dman on a phenomenal contract. I don't really think the Isles would be interested in giving him up at all unless if the other team, in this case the Kings, were to overpay. I could be wrong of course, but that's just how I see it lol

NYI already has 48 players under contract. 50 is max allowed. No interest in adding spare parts. Mayfield is nothing special solid 3rd pair that won’t hurt you if he has to play 2nd pair, his value is his contract and what it allows them to do elsewhere which will make him hard to pry away.

Ok, but you are forgetting something... NYI has Pelech, Pulock, Leddy, Boychuk, Toews, Wilde, and Aho to fit in. Mayfield is the likely one to go, therefore in this case the Kings would be one of the teams interested and therefore the Kings would need to come up with the proper value which is what I am trying to figure out. So if you don't know and aren't familiar with the Islanders then don't comment.

Pelech, Leddy, Toews, Aho are all LD. Mayfield is RD. Pulock/Dobson/Mayfield will be their RD pairing next year with Boychuk traded or bought out and Wilde in AHL developing further.

Toffoli and a 4th.

I'd do that.

Out of curiosity, what about Iafallo, 2020 2nd and 4th?

If the islanders are moving mayfield, they’d want someone who can play on the 2nd line, even if they had to add. Because toffoli doesn’t have term and will be a UFA on July 1st , I think a mayfield for toffoli + 4th makes sense

Boychuk won't get traded with that contract and I doubt they'll buyout another horrible contract for awhile. They still have Ladd to deal with eventually. Wilde isn't far away in development. With all that, they might as well maximize Mayfields trade value and get the best return for him while he has that cap hit with an another 4/3 years left.

Iafallo plays on the 1st line and fair enough.

Jets or Ducks would take Chuky for the right deal pretty easily. Wilde is not ready.

I said he is getting closer, not ready... The Jest would not take Boychuk and the Ducks wouldn't easily either. Jets already have problems with the cap especially if Big Buff comes back. They have to finagle something as it is for his return.

Lets say you are right, what would that sort of trade look like?

Isles retain half. Cheaper for them than buying him out. Both teams have big holes on RD.

They aren't far off from being a contender. They are better off with Johnny at 3RD for his physical presence.

They are far better off getting out from under his contract for 2 and 1/2 years. They have plenty of options and physical presence in other areas. You are grasping be ause you want it to work, it doesn’t.

Toffoli for Mayfield makes some sense for them.

I'm not grasping for anything. You're the one coming up with silly ideas. Trading a 6M contract is incredibly hard in todays game and you are making it sound sweet and easy like some fairy tail...

And yes, someone already mentioned Toffoli, thanks though.

What makes you think Mayfield is the likely one to go? The same reason you want him is the same reason the isles aren’t giving him away for nothing (this proposal is basically nothing)...his contract is fantastic.

Isles would do Toffoli for picks and prospects, but not for Mayfield this season. Mayfield will most likely be traded in the off-season if Boychuk can't be moved. Honestly, Boychuk has been so good this year, that I don't think it's that bad to keep him through next year.
