I think this is a trade you make to compete right away, and it does make quite a bit of sense. Even his contract expiring in 2 years isnt all that bad with the franchise needing to sort a bunch of guys like Zib, Fox, (Shesterkin?) etc. at that point anyways, but at the same time some contract buy outs etc. freeing up some space. Those wings are pretty stacked with talent anyways and Kravtsov might end up playing a lot of 3rd line minutes anyways.

Hypothetical but BO is cheap and hawks looking to upgrade. $680K for 4 seasons. Saves CHI $4M for next 2 seasons.

Reports that he might get bought out by the jackets bc his buy out isn’t so bad for them would be a great add for us but who knows. They prob wouldn’t trade for Malkin if they did do this

Cool, thanks for the update on him, as for the Malkin thing, it'd be great for the blue shirts to acquire him, but I'm sure you would have to throw in a 1st rather than Andersson, Malkin IMO is still a really great player and could produce really well, especially with the bread man and Buchy, that line would be phenomenal, even if Malkin is aging

Maybe instead of Chytil they can throw in Robertson? 100% not ready yet but the Leafs have a pretty large window and I think Robertson will be pretty good. Also clears up some space to possibly get Pietrangelo

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gregory_papas</b></div><div>history proves drafting for need is unproductive. look at the rangers draft history. michelle hasn't played any nhl games yet, can't say he's clearly anything yet. countless college players fail at the nhl and ahl every season. everything is the hawks need, their pick is unpredictable.</div></div>
Like I said, the draft is way too close where the Hawks pick. So based on what you're saying, you're arguing Schneider would be the best pick available unequivocally which is just foolish. Which is why the Hawks will draft for their weakest position at 21 and under players which is the top 6. Mercer, Amirov, Zary, Holloway, Jarvis, Quinn and if Sanderson (highly doubtful) falls. Those are the targets and to argue Schneider is better then any of them is a fool's errand.
Furthermore, Hawks have a history of drafting for need; Adam Boqvist, Kirby Dach, Jokiharju, Beaudin, Mitchell. Hawks have loaded up on defensive prospects in the first two rounds in the last few years; Boqvist, Mitchell, Beaudin, Vlasic with only 1 forward in Dach and that hardly includes all their defensive prospects like Carlsson, Regula, Kalynuk, etc. They will target wingers as such in this draft not more bottom 4 defensive players as they have plenty of options as you can see.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bf3351</b></div><div>In the late 1st round and early 2nd there are some good wingers available. Kings could take a cap dump for a late 1st or maybe Reichel will slip to 35OA like Kaliyev. Pretty soon Kings will be able to aquire top 6 wingers via trade.</div></div>
None of which will have Kakko's potential. Anyone acquired in the late first or early 2nd rounds will be higher risk players, like Kaliyev and Fagemo. They could very well turn into quality players, but the odds are higher than 50% that a 2nd round pick will not turn into a regular NHL player.
The Kings need wingers significantly more than they need centers right now. Lafreniere would have been ideal, but the cards didn't work out that way. There's no trade that is ever going to get done to swap the #1 and #2 OA picks. A #2OA pick for a #2OA pick is a reasonable trade that could see the Kings get the player at the position they need, that wouldn't see either team making a ridiculous overpayment.

The exact same applies to Byfield. Don't forget that Kakko was also a #2OA pick.

I proposed this trade like a month ago and it got mixed reviews from both sides, which leads me to believe it's fairly reasonable:
To LA:
Kakko
#22 OA
To NY:
#2 OA
#35 OA

I think this trade is pretty close. I think the Kings would prefer Iafallo to DeAngelo, so I don't think they'd do it. Not bad as far as value is concerned though.

The Kings trade is closer than my initial reaction but I don't think they do it. Lafallo was a real bright spot and I'd rather have him then DeAngelo and I'd rather build around an elite center than an elite wing.

What is going to happen
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gregory_papas</b></div><div>the rangers kinda changed up their drafting strategy from the past for their top picks. they use to draft big players that can skate which for the most part didn't pan out. brady worked out but of course they had their stinkers like Hugh Jessiman, Bob Sanguinetti, Dylan McIlrath to name a few. lately they been draft players that had strong second half's to the season like Vitali Kravtsov, andre miller, andersson, and chytil. besides andersson they also been swinging more on high talent guys like chytil, kravtsov, miller, Henriksson, jones etc. the rangers always been a team that drafted for need and drafted peoples not inline with tsn's rankings.
now don't get me wrong Jan Mysak is a great pick. but the more and more i think about it i see Tyson Foerster as a players the rangers could pick at 22. he had a very strong second half, plays center, has good character.</div></div>
I agree, I just think it’s a stretch at 22

I have Smith as an extra in my ACGMs. I love how people act the Rangers are Leafs desperate for cap space. Pretty funny when we have $17M with Hank out.
