Playing it Relatively Safe

I'd also love to go get someone like Keller, but the more I think about it the more I don't think the Caps want to make a trade that big and sacrifice key future assets. Not sure you could get a bigger name without giving up a first, McMichael or Lapierre. Kinda have to be realistic about the team's Cup chances even if they get someone like Keller or Scheifele and choose to stay competitive enough to be in the playoff race without giving up the future

Back in the playoffs
I love the idea of moving Kuznetsov to wing if the Caps can grab someone like Scheifele. Putting him in a pure offensive role like this is the best bet on getting the 70 point production out of him this team needs. My only concern with this concept would be the ability to pay both Wilson and Scheifele next season while also accommodating for Sandin's raise. If Backstrom isn't going on LTIR and the cap isn't going to make a massive jump, this team probably falls apart after one year. Can't give up a future first and McMichael just to get back in the playoffs once.

Cap increases One point Five Million
I think the Keller trade has to happen after the draft if the Caps want to keep 8. Friedman reported that Keller gave the Coyotes a month to sell him on their long-term plan off the ice, which would take us right up to the draft. If a trade doesn't materialize right away, I think it's a realistic option that he's dealt with a 2024 first being the earliest pick they can get. If something happens before the draft, there'll probably be better packages with an earlier first round pick attached to it than Colorado's

Zero reason for the Caps to take that trade, and those are some very *optimistic* UFA signings to say the least

What Sabres need to accomplish this offseason
If Pulock is made available, I agree he's a great fit for the Sabres. I don't think they'd pay to move off of Lyubushkin or Comrie, they have enough cap space to waive them if need be.

He'd be the ideal pickup, but I don't think you can build out the rest of the roster if you pay him what he's gonna get. I'd be very open to bringing in Tarasenko if he comes in around $6M

I like the Graves pickup. Caps very much need someone a physical element on the backend. I do think they'd be looking to add another goal scorer given the lack of offense the Caps got outside of Ovi. Lafreniere is a great flyer to take if there's a coach that thinks he can still get closer to his draft ceiling

Caps would take this and run. I think Kuzy would do very well with a team that plays as fast as the Avs are capable of playing, but I don't think he warrants this kind of return given his inconsistencies.

Hot 3 way
Caps probably do that if it's a 2024 first. I know management has been saying that they want to contend for another Cup with Ovi, but they have to be smart enough to know that's probably not happening. Trading a top 10 pick doesn't seem in the cards for them unless there's somehow a 1C that's on the trade market

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>capsfan2121</b></div><div>Thinks that style of play is going to change with a coaching change</div></div>
I don't think that's a pure Laviolette thing. I actually agree that the way the Caps are currently built, they should be dumping and forechecking more than trying to skate it in. You see guys like Milano and Johansson skate the puck a bit more, but there just isn't the team speed to do it regularly IMO. If I recall correctly, Lav's Nashville teams skated the puck in a fair amount during the playoff run. I think it's a personnel decision

I can't imagine Boston wanting to move Hall, or Hall wanting to leave Boston. I do think that a player like him would be a great fit for what we need to do. More play driving, guys that can skate the puck through the NZ. Caps rely on dumping and retrieving wayyyy too much given how quick defensemen are now.

2024 1st + McM I assume would be asking ? Hopefully 2024 1st + Chelsey</div></div>
I'm big on Michkov as well, but yeah I'd go Fantilli for sure. It's way easier to round out the roster with wingers than it is to try and find a true 1C. Setting up long term with Fantilli, Strome and Lapierre down the middle would be a great way to get back into contention quickly. Miroshnichenko also looks like a good top six guy, so I think going Fantilli makes roster building much easier and you're still getting a freakin stud

I think it's a win-win. Sandin *should* settle into a nice top four role, and the Leafs get a guy to play the same role this year and the first to make more moves.

I love the idea of swapping out Kuznetsov for Girard, but it would definitely be the Caps having to give up the better pick in the deal. Kuznetsov hasn't been living up to his deal, Girard has outperformed it IMO.

I don't think Colorado would be the destination for a move like that but I definitely think that's appropriate value, wherever that may end up. And I'd be thrilled to get Chychrun at that price, but I'd expect Arizona would ask for someone like McMichael instead of Alexeyev

Thank god this team is selling. Going to be super weird having multiple first round picks.
I don't know what the pairings will be (Bruins fans can help me out) but man does Orlov-Carlo have some serious potential as a shutdown pairing.

I really don't think a move like this is worth while. Even with Meier, this team most likely doesn't make it out of the 1st round. I'd rather just sell off pieces now and get a jumpstart on building post Ovi.

sell and retool
I would think that an extended Jensen would be able to bring in a protected first rounder (probably 2024) and that a package of Orlov and Sheary would almost have to bring back a first in the deal.
