I actually don’t like the moves. A combination of unrealistic free agent signing dollars and trades that really don’t make sense with roster building.
Trading Carlo after he was arguably the best defenseman all playoffs and replacing him with Carrier and Shattenkirk is borderline crazy to me
The reality of it is if you are playing in the premium end of free agency, you are paying more cap to keep picks. Stephenson, Stamkos, and Zadorov are probably not even with 1.5M of their probable costs.

New Avs

for sure rants would rather be in Colorado, but the avs need to add some depth and they might not even be able to afford to re -sign him anyways so that just is what it is.. (especially if landy comes back which i tried to plan for)
im not sure if he would would want to stay in Calgary but a big paycheck couldn't hurt.. also he would get to play with naz again so that might help.
like i said if that all fails u can definitely flip him and get a pretty good haul (maybe not "full value" but i would say at least a 1st + a good prospect or two, a package similar to if not better than Guentzel) especially if you have a sign and trade kind of situation
if the flames decide they want to tank and rebuild that might even be the better strategy.

Jones Marner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lowblocksniper</b></div><div>Fair enough, I think Chicago has a strong enough appeal (less pressure but still a strong fanbase and promising looking future) to convince Marner to stay long term and I wouldn't be worried if I was Davidson.
Marner is a top 5 playmaker, top 10 at worst and the franchise has an all world talent and sniper in Bedard and a league worst goals for.
Not sure about RHD but, I've seen so many Chicago fans preach about how great the D prospect depth is I thought they wouldn't mind losing Jones</div></div>
The depth is all on the left side right now. They don't have anyone close on the right side. Jones plays top pair minutes and the hole would be too massive to patch.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lowblocksniper</b></div><div>Keller is younger, cheaper, signed long term and put up his numbers with nobody. I wouldn't trade him 1 for 1 for Marner even if Marner had the same contract.
You're giving good players\prospects\picks in the trade but, I don't really see the Flames saying yes even if they didn't hate Treliving but, as a Flames fan I might be biased and want them to try and compete next year</div></div>
I think the flames trade is super fair, for a goalie thats expected to trade this offseason you'll be getting a huge assortment of ready nhlers, picks, and two of the leafs best prospects. Maybe the retained salary looks a little different, but it is only 2 years.

Broberg is 2yrs younger and worth more than POJ, not a ton but something like a 3rd IMO
Dallas trade just won't happen, Suter full No Move and Letang full No Move until 2026
NJD trade also a long shot, Palat has a 10 team list, doubt he'll have retool\rebuild Pens on it, also Mercer is more valuable than Pettersson and the 2nd. <strong><em>I honestly think Jarry is just decent and wouldn't want him on my team if I was N</em></strong>J</div></div>
I agree here. We could have put up 9 on him last night and the Rags torched him. Yes he was left out to dry but last time he was in playoffs he was terrible all by himself

I think bringing in Stephenson or Monahan back but, not both.
The defense not only needs to get older but someone needs to become a #1D and I'm not sure it will happen by next year.
You're right mentally losing all the time will wear down some of the guys, that's why every year like Detroit you need to add 1 0r 2 guys and steadily get there it won't happen next year.</div></div>
Fair. I don't think going as "fast" as I am proposing is how most GMs approach it as well. I mostly did it for illustration purposes. I doubt Stephenson even considers Montreal FWIW.

Agreed. It doesn't make sense for us to get back more than we paid for considering the way he's played this year. That being said, I would do a 3rd and Dorofeyev in a heartbeat. I'll even lower the pick a round or two.

1st round pick + prospect who's value is around a 2nd round pick + Kulak who is probably worth something close to a 2nd maybe a 3rd+4th.
Do you think Parayko is worth more or is it just as a Blues fan you think the team shouldn't move him at all?</div></div>
Yeah it is more so that he can't be moved without fully committing to a long term rebuild, which is something I don't think is needed or obviously wanted. I do think Pieces like Buchnevich can be moved to help boost a retool though.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>lowblocksniper</b></div><div>But not what many ACGMs think lol Starting goalies are worth more than star centers somehow</div></div>
Fan perception often lags far behind what NHL gms have realized.
Great goaltending is a necessity to win a cup. But that great goaltending can come from anywhere. Buying a goalie via trade is NOT a guarantee of great goaltending, which people don’t get.
Also due to the volatility of goalies it’s easy to overrate your teams.
Any goalie having a good stretch of play is guaranteed to sustain that in their fanbases eyes, and any goalie struggling is on the cusp of bouncing back to their previous form.
Goalies rarely get 1sts, but I could name 33+ goalies who, if I asked their fanbase about, they’d ask for a 1st minimum

I agree. And there's the huge factor that some team will see him as a reclamation project from a deeply dysfunctional organization. He's not worthless, and he'd already have been traded with a lower cap hit.

Henrique same thing, if the Kings fallout of the playoffs and Arvidsson becomes available maybe, Eberle is good but again not a play driver, yeah I can't think of the guy you're looking for</div></div>
Doesn’t have to be a play driver, but someone who is good at 5v5 and doesn’t need the powerplay to be good. It just makes sense for it to be a play driver because Mika is a shooter and Kreider is net front
But then again, beggars can’t be choosers, so if Bertuzzi is the only one they can get for picks, then I won’t complain

And yes we do not have the same evaluations on prospects and it's not super close so I won't say what mine are lol</div></div>
My thought process is always to just put in picks on here as a show of actual value and the prospects can be sorted out by front offices with their own internal valuations.
But it’s just incredibly annoying to see that every fanbase seems to want Holtz. Every fanbase seems to want Casey. Every fanbase seems to want Mercer. And yet they won’t value him.

TBH, I saw Monahan take some good hit and he wasn't shaken. He was injured in the 2022-2023 season after blocking two pucks in the same sequence... then they rushed him back and aggravated his foot/ankle injury.
So honestly - his hip seem to have healed up nice (which is possible).

Wennberg is probably worth something around a 2nd, you have a 3rd I'd say adding another 3rd would make it good with the retention but, I could be wrong
Dumba trade seems like your giving up assets for a mostly lateral move and a RD instead of a LD</div></div>
Seattle is going to want more to Retain money of Wennberg for sure, I think I'm close and if you need to add or change Hirvonen to Niemala I think I'd be fine with it.
Dumba trade was giving up assets to make the cap work. Not for the RD/LD or lateral move. The 1.8 Million Added there makes the seattle trade work.

Vitek and Daws have been playing fine lately tbh. The goaltending early in the year was horrific but like I’ve tried to explain countless times to various people, no trade we make will go back in time and change the games already played.
Early in the year: playing elite hockey, getting screwed by goaltending
Injuries then destroy us, still screwed by goaltending
More recently, goaltending below average, much lower quality of play.
With Jack and Nico in the lineup tho we’ve been quite good.
I think the biggest priority should be getting a dman for the 2nd pair on the left side. And then after that improving the depth On our 4th line and our PK.
Give me Trenin and Marcus Pettersson if possible and I’ll be a happy man

I think he could be a good fit with Kreider and Zibanejad. He wouldn't have to do too much, as the two players I just mentioned are the main engines on that line, but he'd likely be able to contribute quite nicely there.

Perfetti isn't strong enough to play center at this point, he's also too slow.
