Thread: With Vesey
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>esracerx46</b></div><div><i>1. Vesey's hit will be the max at .925 not 900....wherever he lands. And its not only not a sure thing. Its a long shot
2. Schmaltz probably isnt a center...much less a bottom 6 type. Too much skill. IF..big if..he makes the opening night roster itll be on the right side.
3. Dump Svedberg. PLEASE
4. I'd prefer Panik as 4LW with Desjardins playing C and Tootoo on RW. Hossa with Kruger and Motte. Schmaltz at 2lw
5. Mashinter and Tootoo being on the roster are mutually exclusive. Its one or the other.</i></div></div>

The caphit wasn't a forsure thing, just ballpark(like 25k makes that big of a difference when he'll be getting some big bonuses anyways), and as for it being a "long shot" on signing him, Chicago has been rumored to be the favorites. I don't think it's as much of a long shot as you think
Hawks have him listed as a center on their website, and I wouldn't doubt they give him quite a few looks at center, considering it might be possible that Anisimov becomes a cap casualty the following season
Svedberg is better than Roszival and Gustaffsson at this point
Mashinter saw a lot more time than he probably should have last season. Knowing Quenneville, him and Tootoo on the same roster is more than likely a sure thing unless they opt to give someone like Hartman or McNeil the spot instead.

And as for some of your other points like Schmaltz not being a bottom 6 type, obviously he isn't. Neither was Teravianen, but that's where he spent most of his time last season. Same with Morin who probably shouldn't have started on the 4th line when they finally gave him a chance.
While I don't doubt Hossa sees some frequent 3rd line time at some point this year, I think there's a good chance they start him up top for at least a couple of games. Especially if they get someone like Vesey. Could be the spark that the 1st line needs to have a better year offensively.
As for Desjardins on center, they didn't use him there last year when Kruger went down so if not Kruger on the 4th line this year it's more than likely they sign someone or it'll be a call-up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DD67</b></div><div><i>So comparing the player with the 2nd most shot attempts in the NHL since 2009 to the Ducks 2nd line wing is shoddy analysis, but going back to 2015 to compare a rookie and an established NHL player is OK? Get off your high horse.

It's also ridiculous to say I'm not taking age and contract into account when I've said over and over again that age is the primary issue with this proposal.

I think we agree on more of this then not. So maybe try and leave the implied insults out of it next time when someone tries to answer your questions in good faith.</i></div></div>

I can make it more simple. Anaheim has 12 players on their roster next year(going off of their 20 man roster right now). Assuming the cap stays where it's at next season considering the Canadian dollar, that leaves them with about 18 mil to add at least 7 skaters and a goalie. Now add Kunitz's contract in there and you're looking at just under 15 mil for at least 6 skaters and a goalie. Plus they have to re-sign Rakell who looks to be on pace for at least 40 points so he's probably getting a decent contract, and they have Lindholm to re-sign as well. Assuming Rakell and Lindholm get similar contracts(let's say around 2.5 mil each) you leave Anaheim with just under 10 mil for at least 4 skaters and a goalie. Never mind the age factor with Kunitz, it's a terrible cap-trade for Anaheim. Pittsburgh would have to retain half of his contract, and possibly Hornqvist's as well just so Anaheim can get the rest of their team together without being right at the ceiling. You can't just look at "but they get this for this" you have to look at the cap.

Terravainen I could see being moved next year or as an RFA at the draft, and Pokka same deal. And that's IF they even consider trading those 2 next year. Hawks are short on d prospects and with cap constraints next year along with probably having to dump Scuderi, it makes no sense to trade any defensemen unless they're getting one back.</i></div></div>

Depends what you mean by short of D prospects. Prospect Currently in the NHL...Gus, TVR...Prospects with NHL experience Svedberg, Rundblad, in AHL Rockford Pokka, Fournier, Jardine. Fournier and Jardine may not be elite prospects, but not every prospect is elite.</i></div></div>

Pokka is their best d prospect right now. They trade him they have to settle for bringing in another vet like Roszival in next season. Rundblad and Svedberg were sent down for a reason. If Fournier even makes it to the NHL, wouldn't be for another couple of seasons probably. And I don't think they have Jardine. Not showing up on their roster. Forsling would probably be their next best bet, but he's same as Fournier. Likely wouldn't crack the roster for a couple of years at the least. With cap constraints for a while still, it makes no sense to trade Pokka unless they're getting a return on d.

And TVR and Gustaffsson really aren't prospects. TVR made the team last year and Q seems to like Gus so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back on the team next year. I'm talking moreso about guys for their future. Pokka and Forsling are pretty much it unless someone REALLY exceeds expectations at camp next season.

Thread: Rent
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div><i>Toronto would be silly not to make that deal.

I'm actually not even sure Chi should even do it in the first place. Keep the first rounder, keep the prospects, buy out Bickell in the offseason for a measly 1M on the cap. They are already a good team, they don't need to blow their loads this much. The acquisition of Russell is good enough to cement their top 4 on Defence. Their offence is fine but if they want a rental vet, they can have one for 3rd-5th rounder.

As if Polak and Boyes are going to be the deciding factors for the cup when Polak is playing 5-6th minutes and Boyes is relegated to the fourth line because having Shaw and Kruger on the fourth line is a slap in the face. Not saying Polak and Boyes are terible players just that they don't serve you all that much in the roles they will eventually play especially for what they cost you. Your third line is comprised of a LW traded twice in 1 year and a bit, a young still unproven center in Danault and a bargain bin Boyes who is on his last legs..... That wouldn't fly for coach Q especially in the middle of playoffs, let alone the regular season.

First trade is a perfect fit. Second one IMO is trading for the sake of trading and not even sure it really benefits CHI that much.</i></div></div>

2nd trade gets Bickell's contract completely off of the books though. With the likelihood of the cap staying where it's at next season, it's better to have 4 mil taken off of the books than just 2.5 since Bickell's buyout would still leave them with a 1.5 mil cap hit for the next 2 seasons. The 1st is pretty steep but that might be the price they have to pay
